In this paper, we have proposed a new method to extract the fetal ECG from a pregnant woman's abdominal signal using least square acceleration (LSA) filter and adaptive impulse correlation (AIC) filter. To evaluate the performance, the proposed method and other fetal ECG extraction techniques were processed using the real ECG data and then the results were compared. According to comparative results, the proposed method is powerful and successful for extracting the fetal ECG. It was able to separate perfectly even though the fetal beats overlap with the QRS wave of the maternal beats and to extract fetal ECG using any single-channel abdominal signal measured from pregnant woman's abdominal surface. Also, it could be implemented easily by fast computation time and simple structure. It is sure that our method could be useful for portable fetal monitoring system.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive technique for microscopic investigation of tissue. We thought that the OCT method could be a potential tool for monitoring the healing process of a tendon. In this study we used two rat models, denervated and non-denervated groups, to observe a variety of healing phases of Achilles tendon (AT) injury. We made samples of AT injury lesions, to take OCT images and to make histopathological samples of serial sectional tissue. In an OCT image the denervated rat showed no specific finding, but the non-denervated rat showed a large defect lesion that was scaffolding tissue. OCT findings combined with pathologic findings showed advantages in visualization of tendon microstructure over other imaging modalities such as MRI and US, and OCT is beneficial to making a treatment plan, especially the timing and intensity of rehabilitation. Therefore a multimodal platform using OCT for evaluation of tendon injury may be potentially useful for many applications.
In the this research, two simultaneous peaks of radial artery pulse wave and ECG pulse wave measured by using clip-type pulsimeter and ECG were investigated in order to analyze pulse wave velocity. The measured value of a pulse wave velocity is about 5~7 m/s, it is proved one new method to measure an exact value of pulse wave velocity more than the typical biomedical signal monitoring system. This result implies that data measured by the oriental medical diagnosis apparatus as pulsimeter is clinically used in future.
A new method for estimating and eliminating electrocardiogram (ECG) artifacts from single channel scalp electroencephalogram (EEG) is proposed. The proposed method consists of emphasis of QRS complex from EEG using least squares acceleration (LSA) filter, generation of synchronized pulse with R-peak and ECG artifacts estimation and elimination using adaptive filter. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated using simulated and real EEG recordings, we found that the ECG artifacts were successfully estimated and eliminated in comparison with the conventional multi-channel techniques, which are independent component analysis (ICA) and ensemble average (EA) method. In conclusion, we can conclude that the proposed method is useful for the detecting and eliminating the ECG artifacts from single channel EEG and simple to use for ambulatory/portable EEG monitoring system.

Electrical impedance tomography(EIT) can produce functional images with conductivity distributions associated with physiological events such as cardiac and respiratory cycles. EIT has been proposed as a clinical imaging tool for the detection of stroke and breast cancer, pulmonary function monitoring, cardiac imaging and other clinical applications. However EIT still suffers from technical challenges such as the electrode interface, hardware limitations, lack of animal or human trials, and interpretation of conductivity variations in reconstructed images. We improved the KHU Mark2 EIT system by introducing an EIT electrode interface consisting of nano-web fabric electrodes and by adding a synchronized biosignal measurement system for gated conductivity imaging. ECG and respiration signals are collected to analyze the relationship between the changes in conductivity images and cardiac activity or respiration. The biosignal measurement system provides a trigger to the EIT system to commence imaging and the EIT system produces an output trigger. This EIT acquisition time trigger signal will also allow us to operate the EIT system synchronously with other clinical devices. This type of biosignal gated conductivity imaging enables capture of fast cardiac events and may also improve images and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by using signal averaging methods at the same point in cardiac or respiration cycles. As an example we monitored the beat by beat cardiac-related change of conductivity in the EIT images obtained at a common state over multiple respiration cycles. We showed that the gated conductivity imaging method reveals cardiac perfusion changes in the heart region of the EIT images on a canine animal model. These changes appear to have the expected timing relationship to the ECG and ventilator settings that were used to control respiration. As EIT is radiation free and displays high timing resolution its ability to reveal perfusion changes may be of use in intensive care units for continuous monitoring of cardiopulmonary function.

Tear is a promising biological fluid for non-invasive health monitoring. It has been studied in the past to be a possible candidate for the diagnosis of certain systemic diseases, such as breast cancer, multiple sclerosis, prostate cancer, and diabetes. However, currently existing methods for collecting and extracting tear from the human eye causes inconsistencies in the biomolecule concentrations of the tear sample due to the irritating nature of the process. In response, we designed and fabricated a microfluidic system embedded soft contact-lens for the purpose of tear sampling. The lens was then tested with artificial tear for its tear sampling capability, and found to be able to find concentration equilibrium within 50 minutes. Additionally, simulation was carried out to further optimize the design so that tear sampling rate matched the natural tear turn-over rate of 1 microliter per minute.

We have examined the effect of circadian disturbances induced by night shifts (NSs) on the phenotypes of the tibiae and abdominal adipose tissues (ADTs) in a mouse model by using in vivo micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). We found that the volumes of total and visceral ADTs in the night-shifted group of mice were significantly larger (69 and 92%, respectively) than those in the control. The mean polar moment of inertia, cross-sectional thickness, and bone mineral density of the cortical bone in the night-shifted group of mice were less (13, 5, and 3%, respectively) than those in the control. Moreover, the volume and the thickness of growth plates (GPs) of the tibiae in the night-shifted mice were significantly smaller (22 and 20%, respectively) than those in the control. Taken together, our results indicate that disturbances in the mouse circadian rhythms induced by NSs affect the morphological characteristics of cortical bone, the volume and the thickness of GPs, and the volume of ADTs.
Typically, the vital signs that are representing the state of human body, are the body temperature, sphygmus, respiration and blood pressure. The body temperature is the result of metabolic regulation and human steady-state body temperature is maintained from 35.9 to $37.4^{\circ}C$ by heat regulatory center. The body temperature is indicative of infection and especially it should be monitored to requiring intensive care patients or after surgical patients. But, measuring of body temperature to a heavy workload on nursing staff has been recognized. And, the health service of nurse is limited by simple tasks such as the measurement and record of vital sign. In this paper, the body temperature monitoring telemetry system was proposed to prove the recoding and transmission of body temperature patch system according the standard(ISO TS11073-92001). We proposed the transmission protocol to suit the MFER(medical waveform format encoding rules). The telemetry patch system was implemented and it was verified by experiments.
Many countries have adopted a single, well-described approach to the use of phototrophs for monitoring river water quality, which involves the use of indices related to diatom composition at a site. Increasingly these indices have focussed on assessing ambient phosphate concentration. However, there is a wide range of other methods which can provide additional information to make up for any weaknesses in the standard method. Some of these methods are reviewed briefly here. They can be useful, for instance, when considering temporal and spatial variability in phosphate concentration at a particular site and providing much more insight on heavy metal or pesticide pollution than revealed by routine water analysis.
This paper describes the implementation of a 3 channel ECG monitoring system. This system consists of an IBM-PC and simple accessory only. A PDTS (parallel data transmission system ) was designed to do monitor the data being operated with no effect and no exchange of software and hardware on the main transmission system in LOCAL mode. And it receives patient's ECG data from EPTS ( ECG processing and transmission system) of distant region. It provides on-line ECG waveform display, waveform storage, recall and editing the waveform. We have implemented the monitoring system by tw methods, and with system, we could directly monitor the EPTS and also receive the data from the remote ㅁe잉ion. This system was tested by experiments and examined its practical use.
