This experiment was carried out to evaluated biological availability of calcium inthe sea mustard, sea tangle and sea lettuce in the rats. Standard diets were made to supply 0.3% of Ca from CaCO3. Consequently, levels each test ingredients to be added were sets by their Cacontents. The ingredients such as sea mustard, sea tangle and sea lettuce wereadded to basal diet at levels of 15.23%, 12.66% and 23.42% respectively. Ingredients of the basal diet were soybean protein, corn oil, alpha-cellulose, methionine, choline cholride and vitamin and mineral premix. Dextrose was added at level up to 100%. Amount of soybean protein was adjustable to make all the diets isontrogenous. Rats were fed ad libitum the diets for 13 days. The results were summarized as follow: 1. Serum calcium levels of the sea mustard group(15.23%) were higher than those of the other group, but rats fed sea lettuce diets appeared to have the lowest value. 2. Ca concentration in tibia were lower in rats fed with sea lettuce, rather than in those with standard diet. 3. Ca concentration in femur of the rats fed seaweeds did not show any significant difference among groups. 4. In the liver weight in groups fed on the all experimental groups were decreased more than that in the case of the standard diet groups.

The aim of this study is to apply the Water-Energy-Food-Land Nexus approach which can analyze the trade-offs among resources, and assess the holistic impacts of food security. First, we applied rice as a study crop and analyzed the trend of consumption of rice and the area of paddy fields. Second, the portfolios of water, energy, and land for rice production were constructed using data of footprints and productivity. Finally, the self-sufficiency ratio (SSR) of rice in target year was set as food security scenario and assessed the impacts of food security on water, energy, and land availability. In 2030, the SSR of rice decreased to 87 %, and water use for producing rice decreased from 4,728 to $3,350million\;m^3$, and the water availability index increased from 0.33 to 0.53. However, food security is essential issue and we set the 50 % and 100 % SSR of rice as high and low food security scenarios. For 100% SSR in 2030, about $3,508million\;m^3$ water was required and water availability index reached to 0.5. In other words, there is the trade-off between food security and water-energy-lands availability. Therefore, it is difficult to make a decision whether a high level of SSR is better or worse. However, this study showed the both positive and negative impacts by change of food security and it can be useful for setting the policy decision considering both food security and sustainable resource management at the same time.

The effect of soil damage on the physicochemical characteristics and activity of the soil microbial community is not well known. This study investigates this relationship by analyzing 11 soil samples collected from various points of soil damage across Gyeonggi-do. Soil damage resulted from forest fires, landslides, and development areas, with their impacts most severe on the topsoil layer (0-30 cm). Dehydrogenase and β-glucosidase activities were notably higher at locations damaged by forest fires compared to other sites. While enzyme activities in soils influenced by landslides and development areas were relatively low, sites with a pollution history exhibited elevated dehydrogenase activity, likely due to past microbial response to the pollution. Additionally, an assessment of carbon substrate usability by soil microorganisms indicated higher substrate availability in areas impacted by forest fires, contrasting with lower availability in landslide and development sites. Statistical analysis revealed a positive correlation between organic content of sand and clay and microbial activity. These findings provide valuable insights into soil damage and associated restoration research, as well as management strategies.
The safety-related raw water system's strong operational condition supports the radiation defense and biological shield of nuclear plant containment structures. Gaps and failures in maintaining proper working condition of main equipment like pump were among the most common causes of unavailability of safety related raw water systems. We integrated the advanced data analytics tools to evaluate the maintenance records of water systems and gave special consideration to deficiencies related to pump. We utilized maintenance data over a three-and-a-half-year period to produce metrics like MTBF, MTTF, MTTR, and failure rate. The visual analytic platform using tableau identified the efficacy of maintenance & deficiency in the safety raw water systems. When the number of water quality violation was compared to the other O&M deficiencies, it was discovered that water quality violations account for roughly 15% of the system's deficiencies. The pumps were substantial contributors to the deficit. Pump availability was predicted and optimized with real time data using response surface method. The prediction model was significant with r-squared value of 0.98. This prediction model can be used to predict forth coming pump failures in nuclear plant.

The availability of nucleotide sequences of the coat protein gene of Potato leafroll virus (PLRV) permitted the construction of DNA primers that were utilized for cDNA synthesis. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products of a 487 bp. and approximately 500 bp DNA fragments were amplified from nucleic acid extracts of PLRV-infected tissue and strawberry mild yellow-edge (SMYE) diseased strawberry tissue, respectively. The amplified DNA fragments were further differentiated by hybridization analysis with a CDNA probe for the coat protein gene of PLRV and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis. These results suggest that a luteovirus is associated with the SMYE disease.
Recently produced information on post-translational modifications makes it possible to interpret their biological regulation with new insights. Various protein modifications finely tune the cellular functions of each protein. Understanding the relationship between post-translational modifications and functional changes ("post-translatomics") is another enormous project, not unlike the human genome project. Proteomics, combined with separation technology and mass spectrometry, makes it possible to dissect and characterize the individual parts of post-translational modifications and provide a systemic analysis. Systemic analysis of post-translational modifications in various signaling pathways has been applied to illustrate the kinetics of modifications. Availability will advance new technologies that improve sensitivity and peptide coverage. The progress of "post-translatomics", novel analytical technologies that are rapidly emerging, offer a great potential for determining the details of the modification sites.
To establish optimal conditions for esterification by Candida cylindracea, lipase reactions were performed simultaneously, separately, or individually in the varying initial rates of $0.014-0.060\mu$mole free fatty acids consumed min-1g-1. The reactants which were conditioned at aw of 0.12 gave the highest initial rate of esterifying $0.060\mu$mole free fatty acids consumed min-1g-1. These results suggest that the esterifying activity of lipase in an organic system depends on the transfer of available water within the reaction system.

The fiddler crab, Uca lactea, which lives on intertidal mudflats in Korea, exhibits both burrow mating and surface mating. We observed 17 cases of surface mating that occurred on Ganghwa Island, South Korea. Most surface-mating males did not build semidomes, structures that attract searching females for burrow mating. Based on the conclusion of a previous study that semidome building is condition-dependent, we suggest that food availability may influence the mating tactic of this species. In addition, there was a strong correlation between the carapace size of both sexes that surface-mated, which suggests that males use body size of females as a mating cue.
[Purpose] Functional beverages are a protective or enhancing factor influencing not only public health but also athletic performance. The purpose of this study was to highlight the new conditioning beverage of the Lactobacillus pentosus strain b240 (B240) with electrolytes or proteins, which strengthens immune functions to improve the quality of life. [Methods] ISeveral related studies systematically reviews three main issues associated with conditioning beverages: (a) utilization and availability of the functional beverage; (b) significance of B240 in immune strengthening; and (c) availability and application of conditioning drinks in the daily life and sports field. [Results] Intake of B240 led to greater enhancements, including blood T-helper, NK cell, IgA and IgG level in conjunction with strengthen immune functions. These results speculated that the practical application of B240 contained beverages on physiological health and performance.
