Methodology to Simultaneously Optimize the Inlet Ozone Concentration to Oxidize NO and Relative Humidity Composition for the $NO_x$ Degradation using Soil Bio-filter

  • This work investigated the methodology to simultaneously optimize the ozone and relative humidity composition for the $NO_x$ degradation using soil biofilter. Experiments were made as a function of inlet ozone concentration ($0{\sim}1,770\;ppb$) and relative humidity ($38{\sim}81%$). Factorial design ($2^2+3$) and response surface methodology by central composite designs were used to examine the role of two factors and optimal response condition on $NO_x$ degradation. It was found that a second-order response surface model can properly interpret the experimental data with an $R^2$-value of 0.9730 and F-value of 71.83, based on which the maximum $NO_x$ degradation was predicted up to 92.8% within our experimental conditions.

미나리와 폐콘크리트를 이용한 하천정화공법의 기초 연구 (A study on development of basic natural system for polluted streams using wasted concrete and Oenanthe javanica)

  • The aim of this study is to identify the role of this natural treatment system, which consists of Oenanthe javanica and wasted concrete as bio-media. Therefore, it was designed to experiment water quality, BOD, SS, T-N, T-P to recognize the efficiency of treatment system with one biofilter tank using wasted concrete and vegetation bed using Oenanthe javanica. It was also designed to compare two different biofilter reactors, which are air lift and upflow methods. In the result, it was demonstrated that upflow method is more efficient system to control water quality of polluted streams. The vegetation bed using Oenanthe javanica has the treatment efficiency of 41 % (BOD), 52 % (COD), 60% (SS), 36 % (T-P), 70 % ($NH_4-N$). It was therefore proved that removal rates of nutrients are not so good except $NH_4-N$ concentration with nitrification.

  • 현재 우리나라는 축산물 소비증가에 따른 가축사육 두수 증가와 이에 따른 축산 분뇨 및 악취 처리 문제가 심각하게 대두되고 있으며, 특히 악취발생 문제는 환경적 측면에서 최근 심각한 사회문제로 대두되고 있다. 악취처리 기술 가운데 하나인 바이오필터(Biofilter)는 운영비가 적게들고 폐수가 발생되지 않으며, 처리효율이 높은 장점들을 가지고 있다. 또한 기존의 악취처리방법과 달리 담체만을 교체해주기 때문에 폐기물 발생량이 상대적으로 적은 장점이 있다. 현재 바이오필터 충진재는 여러 종류가 개발되었지만 제작단가가 고가이기 때문에 경제적 측면에서 불합리하며, 처리장비의 고정비와 변동비가 경제적으로 많은 부담이 되어 실질적인 현장적용이 어렵다고 판단되어진다. 축산 시설의 암모니아 가스 제거용 바이오 필터 시스템 개발 (Development of Biofilter System for Ammonia Removal in Livestock Facility)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a pilot scale bio-filter system removing ammonia gas with microorganisms. The system consisted of chaff(filter medium), a blower, a temperature sensor, a moisture sensor, a solenoid valve, and a heating system. Temperature and moisture contents were controlled via a PC to provide the microorganisms with proper environment. The microorganisms used in this study were Bacillius. coagulans NLRI T-6 and Pseudononas. putida NLRI S-21 of bacilli. Performance tests were performed to evaluate gas removal rate during 20 days. The result was shown that the removal rate was high in early days and gradually dropped below 90% without injecting the microbes. However, it was shown that when injecting the microbes, the removal rate was almost 100% and pH value was maintained at between 7 and 9 during the whole twenty-day period.

Effect of Biofilter Operation Parameters on Dimethyl Disulfide Removal : Loading, Time, and Concentration

  • A laboratory-scale dual-column biofilter system was used to study the biofiltration of dimethyl disulfide(DMDS). The biofiltration of DMDS was found to depend on the pollutant loadings rather than the inlet concentrations. It was estimated that the pollutant was only inhibitory to the operation of the biofilters at DMDS concentrations greater than 5500 ppmv A residence time of 30 seconds(120 m$^3$/m$^2$/h volumetric loading) was determined as appropriate for efficient operation(>90%). The maximum elimination capacity for both compost mixtures under the current experimental conditions was found to range from 7.5 to 10 g-DMDS/m$^3$/h. A lower DMDS maximum elimination capacity was exhibited under acidified conditions.

  • 본 연구에서는 천연피혁제조공장에서 발생하는 대표적인 악취성분인 황화수소, 암모니아 및 benzene을 활성슬러지에서 획득한 혼합균주와 황산화균인 Thiobacillus sp.IW가 동시에 접종된 생물막반응기를 이용하여 효과적으로 제거하고자 하였다. Benzene의 경우 단일 및 복합성분의 악취에 대해 90%의 제거효율을 유지하였고, 암모니아는 99%의 아주 우수한 제거효율을 나타내었으나, 황화수소의 경우 처리효율은 85%정도로 다른 성분에 비해 낮았다.

The Need of Biofilter for Ammonia Removal in Recirculating Aquaculture System

  • With the world's population increase, demands of fish production increased rapidly. Because of the demand increase, methods of aquaculture also become more intense. With the increasing intensity of aquaculture, more metabolites in the system are accumulated. The metabolites accumulated in the system turn to the causatives of water quality deterioration and become limiting factors for fish growth. Due to the toxicity of ammonia, ammonia removal is needed in aquaculture system. Biofilters, often referred as biological filter or nitrification filter are commonly used in recirculating aquaculture system to remove ammonia and convert it to nitrite, and then to nitrate.

간접포기식 침지여상의 장류 폐수처리특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of the Soysauce Wastewater Treatment in Aerobic Submerged Biofilter)

  • The Soysauce wastewater removal characteristics of submerged biofilters filled with two filter media respectively were experimentally examined with constant temperature, pH value and variable BOD loading and recirculation ratio. The decreasing order of BOD removal is Netring(random plastic media), cubic wire meshes(plastic module). This is mainly due to the media characteristics such as void ratio, specific surface area and media shapes. The BOD removal ratio decreases with increasing $BOD_5$/ volumetric loading rate, and the loading rate for the BOD removal over 85% is lower than 1.5kg$BOD_5$ 5/$m^3$d for the plastic media of Netring and cubic wire meshes. The $BOD_5$ removal rate increases with the recirculation ratio, but the rate of increase become smaller as the recirculation ratio increases over 20. When $BOD_5$ volumetric loading is 1.5kg$BOD_5$/$m^3$d, the required recirculation ratio to obtain 85% BOD$_{5}$ removal is about 20 for Netring and it was about 30 for cubic wire meshes.s.

  • VOCs의 위해성은 광화학 스모그의 원인 물질이며 발암성 유해물질, 지구 온난화와 성층권오존층의 파괴 물질 및 대기중 악취 물질로서 국민 건강 및 환경에 악 영향을 초래하여 세계적으로 VOCs관리를 대기질 관리의 주요 정책 수단으로 이용하는 국가가 증가하는 추세이다. 그러나 국내의 현행 대기질 관리 정책은 대기중에 광범위하게 분포하고 있는 몇 가지의 환경기준물질 관리에만 중전을 두고있는 실정이면, 또한 VOCs 처리 기술로 적용 가능한 기존의 소자, 흡착, 흡수와 같은 기술의 경우, 폭발성 화합물 처리 시 발생하는 위험성이나, 2차 오염물 생성 등 문제점이 발생할 수 있고, 또한 초기 설치비나 운전비용 등에 의해 적용하기가 힘든 경우도 발생할 수 있다.   • Biofiltration of polluted gas streams contained $H_2S$ was studied. The experiments were performed in a laboratory-scale reactor with a porous ceramic media inoculated with sulfur oxidizing bacterium, TAS which was isolated from activiated sludge. The concentration of $H_2S$ in the inlet gas varied from 109 to 3,841 ppm, at the various space velocities(SV) of 50 $h^{-1}$ to 250 $h^{-1}$. Various tests have been conducted to evaluate the effects of such parameters as pH, concentration of sulfate ion and retention time on the pressure drop and maximum elimination capacity. The removal efficiency of $H_2S$ decreased as the $H_2S$ concentration or gas velocity increased in the inlet gas. Pressure drop was insignificant in this system. The maximum elimination capacity could reach up to 16.35g-S/kg-dry packing material/day.
