Time Series Evaluation of Visual Fatigue and Depth Sensation Using a Stereoscopic Display

  • Conventional stereoscopic (3D) displays using binocular parallax generate unnatural conflicts between convergence and accommodation. These conflicts can affect the observer's ability to fuse binocular images and may cause visual fatigue. In this study, time series changes in visual fatigue and depth sensation when viewing stereoscopic images with changing parallax were examined. In particular, the physiological changes, including the subjective symptoms of visual fatigue, when viewing five parallax conditions, were examined. Then a comparative analysis of the 2D and 3D conditions was performed based on the visual function. To obtain data regarding the visual function, the time series changes in the spontaneous-blinking rate before and during the viewing of 3D images were measured. The time series change results suggest that 2D and 3D images cause significantly different types of visual fatigue over the range of binocular disparity.

  • A real time system realization for binocular eyeball tracking cursor on the computer monitor screen is presented in the paper. The processing for searching iris and tracking the cursor are that a facial is acquired by the small CCD camera, convert it into binary image, search for the eye two using the five region mask method in the eye surroundings and the side four points diagonal positioning method is searched the each iris. The tracking cursor is matched by measuring the iris central moving position, The cursor controlling is achieved by comparing two related distances between the iris maximum moving and the cursor moving to calculate the moving stance from gazing position and screen. The experimental result are obtained by examining some adults person on the system.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3-D range finding method for situation that stereo camera has small translational motion. Binocular stereo generally tends to produce stereo correspondence errors and needs huge amount of computation. The former drawback is because the additional constraints to regularize the correspondence problem are not always true for every scene. The latter drawback is because they use either correlation or optimization to find correct disparity. We present a method which overcomes these drawbacks by moving the stereo camera actively. The method utilized a motion parallax acquired by monocular motion stereo to restrict the search range of binocular disparity. Using only the uniqueness of disparity makes it possible to find reliable binocular disparity. Experimental results with real scene are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.

  • This paper proposes dynamic viewing-zone switching for a binocular holographic three-dimensional display with low interpupil crosstalk and an extended eye-motion box. The optimal pupil geometry for reducing interpupil crosstalk is designed. It is shown that the eye-motion box can be extended by exploiting signal replication in the higher-order viewing zone. Design principles and numerical simulations for verification of the binocular holographic head-up display are presented.

양안시 고유수용감각검사(Maindot 검사)를 사용한 간헐성 외사시안의 시기능 훈련효과에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Intermittent Exotropia Vision Training Using Proprioceptive Test (Maindot test))

  • 목적: 본 연구는 양안시 고유수용감각검사(Maindot 검사)를 사용하여 평균 3년 동안의 추적관찰을 통한 간헐성 외사시의 시기능훈련 효과를 평가하는 것이다. 방법: 2005년에서 2009년의 기간동안 35명(남 18명, 여 17명)의 평균 연령 13.48(${\pm}2.45$)세의 교정시력 0.9 이상이고 조절기능이 정상이며, 양안단일시가 가능한 간헐성 외사시안을 대상으로 시기능 훈련 전, 후 그리고 3년간의 변화를 관찰하였다. 결과: 시기능 훈련 후, 변화된 편위량 및 폭주여력(복시점)값과 자각증상은 상관관계가 유의하지 않았다(p>0.05). 그러나 양안시 고유수용감각능력 변화에 따라 자각증상이 감소되는 상관관계를 나타내었다(p<0.001). 결론: 양안시 고유수용감각은 양안시 자각증상 예측 평가, 시기능 훈련 후 양안시 기능 예측 평가, 프리즘 처치와 같은 다양한 목적과 분야에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

앙안에서 정상 단안시와 약시안의 P-VEP 분석 (The Analysis of the P-VEP on the Normal Monocular Vision and Amblyopia in Binocular)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 양안에서 정상 단안시와 약시에서 P-VEP의 파형을 분석하였다. P-VEP는 3채널의 Nicolet system으로 기록하였다. 5명의 성인 피검자(남성 3인, 여성 2명: 평균 22세, 연령은 19세와 24 세 사이)를 기록하였다. 피검자는 전신건강, 약물복용, 유전, 알레르기 그리고 안질환을 포함하는 문진을 조사하였다. 시력과 입체시 검사는 각 피검자의 단안과 양안을 기록하였다. 피검자는 VEP 의 기록을 하는 동안 교정된 시력을 통해서 단안과 양안으로 P-VEP 자극을 본다. 연구의 결과 양안의 시력은 정상 단안 시력보다 좋은 것으로 나타났다. 입체시는 140초 이상을 가졌다. 한편 P-VEP 의 자극을 받은 단안 정상안은 양안으로 본 것과 비교해서 높은 진폭을 나타내었다. 그러나 약시의 파형은 정상 단안시와 양안시에 비해서 상당히 감소함을 가졌다. 결론적으로 본 연구에서는 시력검사에는 양안시가 정상 단안시에 비해서 좋은 시력을 나타내나, P-VEP 검사에서는 오히려 단안 정상 안이 양안에 비해서 높은 진폭을 나타내었다. 그러나 약시안은 시력과 P-VEP 모두 감소함을 나타내었다.

Recent Developments at the Large Binocular Telescope Observatory, GMT's forerunner

  • After a short description of the telescope, we will report on the recent developments in three main areas: - Commissioning of the last of LBT's first generation instruments, now well underway, - Adaptive Optics (AO) and ground-layer AO progress and planned upgrades, - Interferometry first science results. We will also explore the future of the facility as it moves to full operation and strive to be the first of the ELTs in the decade-long window in which GMT, TMT, and E-ELT break ground and start taking shape.

  • Integral imaging is a three-dimensional display method which has full parallax and continuous viewpoints. However, we found an error between the depth expressed by integral imaging and the depth perceived by the observer through binocular disparity. We analyze the depth perception errors of the threedimensional image constructed by integral imaging.

  • This paper describes the development of the 3DDAC mk.4 system, which is a brand new implementation on the research program. The 3DDAC is a fatigue-less stereoscopic display system that is provided with a compensating function of accommodation for binocular disparity 3D image representation. The mk.4 system also features a light-weight HMD style.
