In this paper, we propose a super-resolution method that reconstructs compressed low-resolution images into high-resolution images. We propose a CNN model with a small number of parameters, and even if quantization is applied to the proposed model, super-resolution can be implemented without deteriorating the image quality. To further improve the quality of the compressed low-resolution image, a new degradation model was proposed instead of the existing bicubic degradation model. The proposed degradation model is used only in the training process and can be applied by changing only the parameter values to the original CNN model. In the super-resolution image applying the proposed degradation model, visual artifacts caused by image compression were effectively removed. As a result, our proposed method generates higher PSNR values at compressed images and shows better visual quality, compared to conventional CNN-based SR methods.

In most electronic imaging applications, image with high resolution(HR) are desired. HR means that pixel density within an image is high, and therefore HR image can offer more details that may be critical in various applications. Digital images that are captured by CCD and CMOS cameras usually have a very low resolution, which significantly limits the performance of image recognition systems. Image super-resolution techniques can be applied to overcome the limits of these imaging systems. Super-resolution techniques have been proposed to increase the resolution by combining information from multiple images. To techniques were consisted of the registration algorithm for estimation and shift, the nearest neighbor interpolation using weight of acquired frames and presented frames. In this paper, it is proposed the image interpolation techniques using the wavelet base function. This is applied to embody a correct edge image and natural image when expend part of the still image by applying the wavelet base function coefficient to the conventional Super-Resolution interpolation method. And the proposal algorithm in this paper is confirmed to improve the image applying the nearest neighbor interpolation algorithm, bilinear interpolation algorithm.,bicubic interpolation algorithm through the computer simulation.
X-ray image analysis is a very important field to improve the early diagnosis rate and prediction accuracy of periodontal disease. Research on the development and application of artificial intelligence-based algorithms to improve the quality of such dental X-ray images is being widely conducted worldwide. Thus, the aim of this study was to design a super-resolution algorithm for predicting periodontal disease and to evaluate its applicability in dental X-ray images. The super-resolution algorithm was constructed based on the convolution layer and ReLU, and an image obtained by up-sampling a low-resolution image by 2 times was used as an input data. Also, 1,500 dental X-ray data used for deep learning training were used. Quantitative evaluation of images used root mean square error and structural similarity, which are factors that can measure similarity through comparison of two images. In addition, the recently developed no-reference based natural image quality evaluator and blind/referenceless image spatial quality evaluator were additionally analyzed. According to the results, we confirmed that the average similarity and no-reference-based evaluation values were improved by 1.86 and 2.14 times, respectively, compared to the existing bicubic-based upsampling method when the proposed method was used. In conclusion, the super-resolution algorithm for predicting periodontal disease proved useful in dental X-ray images, and it is expected to be highly applicable in various fields in the future.

Satellites represent cutting-edge technology, of ering significant advantages in spatial and temporal observations. National agencies worldwide harness satellite data to respond to marine accidents and analyze ocean fluctuations effectively. However, challenges arise with high-resolution satellite-based sea surface temperature data (Operational Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis, OSTIA), where gaps or empty areas may occur due to satellite instrumentation, geographical errors, and cloud cover. These issues can take several hours to rectify. This study addressed the issue of missing OSTIA data by employing LaMa, the latest deep learning-based algorithm. We evaluated its performance by comparing it to three existing image processing techniques. The results of this evaluation, using the coefficient of determination (R2) and mean absolute error (MAE) values, demonstrated the superior performance of the LaMa algorithm. It consistently achieved R2 values of 0.9 or higher and kept MAE values under 0.5 ℃ or less. This outperformed the traditional methods, including bilinear interpolation, bicubic interpolation, and DeepFill v1 techniques. We plan to evaluate the feasibility of integrating the LaMa technique into an operational satellite data provision system.

The surveillance system has been developed to be intelligent which can judge and cope by itself using human recognition technique. The existing face recognition is excellent at a short distance but recognition rate is reduced at a long distance. In this paper, we analyze the performance of face recognition according to interpolation and face recognition algorithm in face recognition using the multiple distance face images to training. we use the nearest neighbor, bilinear, bicubic, Lanczos3 interpolations to interpolate face image and PCA and LDA to face recognition. The experimental results show that LDA-based face recognition with bilinear interpolation provides performance in face recognition.

We proposed a new directional edge based interpolation, DEBI, by combining two weighted directional information to reduce blurred edges and annoying artifacts. Four isotropic gradient masks are employed in defining edge directions and they are proven to hold a first order derivative relation with respect to a rotating coordinate. Two minimum gradients among four absolute directional results are shown to be sufficient to describe slant edges efficiently. Compared with widely used bilinear and bicubic interpolation methods, the proposed algorithm results in a noticeable improvement along edge area.
A numerical model for multiple reflection effects of a polarized beam on laser grooving has been developed. The surface of the treated material is assumed to reflect laser irradiation in a fully specular fashion. Combining electromagnetic wave theory with Fresnel's relation, the reflective behavior of a groove surface can be obtained as well as the change of the polarization status in the reflected wave field. The material surface is divided into a number of rectangular patches using a bicubic surface representation method. The net radiative flux far these patch elements is obtained by standard ray tracing methods. The changing state of polarization of the electric field after reflection was included in the ray tracing method. The resulting radiative flux is combined with a set of three-dimensional conduction equations governing conduction losses into the medium, and the resulting groove shape and depth are found through iterative procedures. It is observed that reflections of a polarized beam play an important role not only in increasing the material removal rate but also in forming different final groove shapes. Comparison with available experimental results for silicon nitride shows good agreement for the qualitative trends of the dependence of groove shapes on the electric field vector orientation.

In this paper, wave resistance for a submerged body is calculated by a higher order panel method. The Neumann-Kelvin problem is solved by the source or normal dipole distribution method. The body surface is represented by a bicubic B-spline and the singularity strengths are approximated by a bilinear form. The results calculated by the higher order panel method are compared with those by the lowest order panel method developed by Hess & Smith. The convergence rate of the higher order panel method is much better than the lowest order panel method. But the wave resistance calculated by the higher order panel method still shows discrepancy with an analytic solution at low Froude number like that by the lowest order panel method.

Pedestrian detection is a challenging area in the intelligent vehicles domain. During the last years, many works have been proposed to efficiently detect motion in images. However, the problem becomes more complex when it comes to detecting moving areas while the vehicle is also moving. This paper presents a variational optical flow-based method for motion estimation in vehicular traffic scenarios. We introduce a framework for detecting motion areas with small and large displacements by computing optical flow using a multilevel architecture. The flow field is estimated at the shortest level and then successively computed until the largest level. We include a filtering parameter and a warping process using bicubic interpolation to combine the intermediate flow fields computed at each level during optimization to gain better performance. Furthermore, we find that by including a penalization function, our system is able to effectively reduce the presence of outliers and deal with all expected circumstances in real scenes. Experimental results are performed on various image sequences from Daimler Pedestrian Dataset that includes urban traffic scenarios. Our evaluation demonstrates that despite the complexity of the evaluated scenes, the motion areas with both moving and static camera can be effectively identified.
