  • In mobile Internet environment, providing multicast requires much more complex mechanism comparing with the unicast Mobile IP routing protocol. This is because multicast datagrams are sent to a group address that do not belong to a specific network. The IETF Mobile IP suggested two approaches for mobile multicasting, namely remote subscription and hi-directional tunneling. In remote subscription, a mobile node may join a group via a local multicast router on the visited subnet. Therefore remote subscription may cause much datagram loss while reconstructing the delivery tee. In bi-directional tunneling, a mobile node may join a group via a hi-directional tunnel to its home agent. Bi-directional tunneling may suffer from inefficient routing. In this paper, we proposed a new mobile multicasting protocol, Mobile If Multicast using Local Broadcast(MIMLB) which can receive multicast datagrams as fast as possible and optimize routing path for multicast delivery. The MIMLB protocol uses hi-directional tunneling to receive multicast datagrams. And the MIMLB protocol can resolve datagram duplicated problem and optimize routing path by using local broadcast. Simulation results show that MIMLB reduces delivery path length and optimizes multicast routing path when a mobile nod? moves into a foreign network.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast routing scheme for an efficient and reliable support of multicast service to mobile hosts in IPv6 based networks. The purpose of this paper is to develop an algorithm to reduce both the number or multicast tree reconstruction and the multicast service disrupt time. The proposed multicast routing scheme is a hybrid method using the advantages of the bi-directional tunneling and the remote subscription proposed by the IETF Mobile IP working group. The proposed scheme satisfies the maximum tolerable transfer delay time and supports the maximum tunneling service. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme has better performance in the number of multicast tree reconstruction and the time of multicast service disrupt than the previous schemes does.

  • In this paper, we propose a multicast routing protocol for the seamless delivery of multicast data to mobile hosts through the optimal route in IP based mobile networks. The proposed multicast routing protocol is a hybrid method employing the merits of the bi-directional tunneling and the remote subscription by considering the mobility of mobile hosts. The proposed protocol satisfies the bound of end-to-end delay and supports the seamless handoff. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol has better performance in the number of multicast tree reconstruction and tunneling length and packet loss time than the previous protocols.

  • Mobile multicast schemes are classified into remote subscription and bi-directional tunneling. While the former scheme has much overhead in the maintenances of multicast tree, the latter suffers from inefficient routing. In this paper, we propose dynamic mobile multicast routing (DMMR) scheme, which is operated on the basis of cost functions related with forwarding cost and tree reconstruction cost, Basically DMMR intends to find lower cost between forwarding cost and tree reconstruction cost. Forwarding cost is the cost of tunneling multicast packets from home agent, and tree reconstruction cost is the joining cost of foreign agent to multicast group. In the case that a mobile host moves to the other area, its foreign agent calculates cost functions related with forwarding cost and tree reconstruction cost. If forwarding cost is higher than tree reconstruction cost, foreign agent joins to multicast group and reconstructs the multicast tree. Accordingly, foreign agent can dynamically adapt remote subscription or bi-directional tunneling, Our scheme provides more stable multicast service to the mobile hosts regardless of the movements of mobile host and the number of mobile group members.

  • Micro-mobility protocols have been developed to reduce the control message overhead due to movements of mobile nodes. With the spread of mobile devices, services using mobile nodes are increasing and multicast services are becoming more important in providing multimedia services. In this paper we propose a new multicast protocol suitable for micro-mobility environments. The proposed protocol is designed to maintain optimal multicast routing paths and continue to provide multicast services without disruption in spite of frequent handoffs due to movements of mobile nodes. We used simulation to evaluate the proposed protocol, compared its performance with existing multicast protocols for mobile environments including bi-directional tunneling, remote subscription, and MMA, and observed that the proposed protocol exhibited better performance in terms of transmission success ratio and overhead on the network.

  • This paper describes algorithm that minimizes recovery time of packet loss resulting from handoff in multicast environments and guarantees reliability through interaction of FN(Foreign Network) with PMTP(Predictable Multicast Tree Protocol). To solve the problems that inefficient routing and handoff delay taking plate when using hi-directional tunneling and remote subscription independently in multicast environments, proposed algorithm uses tunneling and rejoining multicast group according to the status of an arriving FA in a foreign network. Furthermore, proposed algorithm sends packet loss information and register message to previous FA or current FA at the same time. so, MH is able to recovery packet loss in handoff delay as soon as possible. As a result of performance analysis, proposed algorithm is more efficient than previous researches and is applicable to existing handoff method without requiring additional procedures.

  • The efficient provision of multicast service to moving hosts in mobile computing environments is not so easy task. Bi-directional tunneling scheme causes overhead about encapsulation and triangular routing. On the other hand, remote subscription scheme need freDuent tree reconstruction, which is inefficient for rapid moving hosts. In this paper we propose Mobility Based Mobile Multicast(MBMOM) scheme which is based on host's mobility information. Ultimately MBMOM try to find the strong points of remote subscription scheme and hi-directional tunneling scheme. If host's mobility speed is considered to be high, multicast packets are forwarded using hi-directional tunneling scheme from home agent continuously. If host's mobility speed is considered to be slow, remote subscription scheme is applied for foreign agent and it try to join multicast tree. We developed analytical models to analyze the performance of proposed scheme and simulated our scheme compared with MOM(Mobile Multicast), RBMOM(Range Based MOM), and TBMOM(Timer Based MOM) schemes. Simulation results show that our scheme has shorter transmission delay than above 3 schemes in the aspect of host's mobility speed and multicast group size.

  • Mobile IP is a solution to support mobile nodes, however, it does not handle NEtwork MObility (NEMO). The NEMO Basic Support (NBS) protocol ensures session continuity for all the nodes in the mobile network. Since the protocol is based on Mobile IP, it inherits the same fundamental problem such as tunnel convergence, when supporting the multicast for NEMO. In this paper, we propose the multicast route optimization scheme for NEMO environment. We assume that the Mobile Router (MR) has a multicast function and the Nested Mobile Router Information (NeMRI) table. The NeMRI is used to record o list of the CoAs of all the MRs located below it. And it covers whether MRs desire multicast services. Any Route Optimization (RO) scheme can be employed here for pinball routing. Therefore, we achieve optimal routes for multicasting based on the given architecture. We also propose cost analytic models to evaluate the performance of our scheme. We observe significantly better multicast cost in NEMO compared with other techniques such as Bi-directional Tunneling, Remote Subscription, and Mobile Multicast based on the NBS protocol.

  • To support the movement of a mobile network consisting of several mobile nodes, the IETF NEMO working group proposed NEMO basic support protocol using bi-directional tunneling between the home agent and the mobile router. Since NEMO basic support protocol is based on bi-directional tunneling, all communications to and from mobile nodes are suffer from inefficient routing all the cases. To solve the routing inefficiency problem, several proposals are proposed. However, those proposals results in new problems, such as binding update storm and changes in existing protocol. Especially, binding update storm problem may cause the delay in binding update, this subsequently causes the difficulty for a real time service and the handoff delay on the movement of mobile network. In this paper, we propose a new binding update scheme which reduces binding update latency and the handoff delay through the distribution of the transmission time of binding update messages. The performance of the proposed scheme is also evaluated to demonstrate its efficiency. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can efficiently reduce the binding update latency.

  • In this paper, we study a multicast transport technique for multimedia services of mobile hosts in wireless network environments. To reduce packet loss during hand-off, we propose a Pre-join scheme in overlapped area and a Buffering scheme in crossover routers. To support seamless service in real time multimedia application, these scheme use an optimal path routing which was provided in remote subscription scheme and a prediction scheme of host movements which was considered overlapped area. To evaluate the peformance of our scheme, we compare Bi-direction tunneling of mobile If, Remote subscription, and MoM by using NS-2. As a result, our scheme shows better performance in network overhead, packet loss and bandwidth's use than other schemes.
