Relationships between TSP and PM10 concentrations were evaluated using their respective data sets collected from Taegu and Kyeungsan areas during the period of December 1993 to November 1994. The collection of data was made using the gravimetric and $\beta$-ray absorption ($\beta$-MPM) methods for 7 days of every month from three urban sites in Taegu and one suburban site in Kyeungsan. Correlation coefficients between TSP and PM10 concentrations for these four sampling sites were found in the range of 0.85 $\sim$ 0.96. Correlation analysis was also conducted for $\beta$-PM concentration data that were measured only from the residential and commercial sites. The correlation coefficients between TSP and $\beta$-PM concentrations were 0.9 in the residential site and 0.8 in the commercial site. By contrast, the correlation coefficients between PM10 $\beta$-PM concentrations were almost identical for both the residential and commercial sites with a value of 0.88. The mean ratio for PM10 to TSP concentrations for all sites was appeared to be 0.68. The analysis of seasonal trends in PM10/TSP ratios showed that the contribution of PM10 to TSP concentrations was more significant during winter (0.70 $\sim$ 0.75) than during summer (0.61 $\sim$ 0.68). The results of this study may provide empirical informations on the compatability of aerosol data measured by different sampling methods.
Inclusion complexation of tiaprofenic acid (TPA) with cyclodextrins $({\alpha}-,\;{\beta}-,\;{\gamma}-CyDs)$ in aqueous solution and in solid phase was investigated by solubility method, measurement of partition coefficient, ultra-violet, circular dichroism, infrared spectroscopies, powder X-ray diffractometry and differential scanning calorimetry. Investigations were made to prepare inclusion complexes of TPA with ${\beta}-CyD$ in solid powdered form by coprecipitation, freeze-drying, spray-drying and co-pulverization methods. The coprecipitation, freeze-drying and spray-drying methods were successful in obtaining inclusion complexes. The results showed that the latter two methods might be originally superior to the former in obtaining powdered inclusion completes. Especially, it was shown by powder X-ray diffractometry that spray-dried ${\beta}-CyD$ alone, TPA-spray-dried ${\beta}-CyD$ physical mixture, and spray-dried $TPA-{\beta}-CyD$ complex were amorphous. The dissolution behaviours of $TPA-{\beta}-CyD$ systems prepared by above four methods were compared with those of TPA alone and $TPA-{\beta}-CyD$ physical mixture, and the rates of dissolution of TPA in pH 1.2 buffer were greatly enhanced by inclusion complexation and copulverization.
Inclusion complex formation of fenbufen with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ in water and in solid state was comfirmed by solubility method, ultra violet absorption, circular dichroism and infra-red spectroscopies, differential thermal analysis, and X-ray diffractometry. A solid complex of fenbufen with ${\beta}-cyclodextrin$ in 1 : 1 molar ratio was prepared by the freeze-drying method, its dissolution characteristics in water and its analgesic and antiinflammatory effect in mouse or rat were examined. The apparent release of fenbufen from the inclusion complex was significantly improved, hut no significant difference in its analgesic and antiinflammatory effect was found.
The crystal structure or $\gamma$-hydroxy-$\betha$-aminobutyric acid was determined by MULTAN system with X-ray intensity data on a diffractometer and refined by the least-squares method to an R-value 0.034 for 711 reflections. The crystals were orthorhombic, space group $P2_{1}2_{1}2_{1}$, Z = 4, with a = 10.220, b = 8.257 and c = 6.556$\AA$. The molecule takes the zwitterionic form and skeletal conformation is trans-transform. The molecules are held together by intra-and intermolecular NH-O and OH--O hydrogen bonds.
A fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector system with two types of sensing probes was fabricated to detect the beta- and gamma-rays simultaneously. As scintillators of the sensing probe type 1, two different inorganic scintillators, $CaF_2(Eu)$ and LYSO(Ce) crystals, were used to obtain the each scintillating efficiency with respect to beta-and gamma-rays and the inherent energy spectra of radioactive isotopes. In the case of the sensing probe type 2, which is composed of two identical inorganic scintillators and a beta shielding material based on the lead, it could discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using a subtraction method. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the proposed fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector could measure and discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using both energy spectroscopy and subtraction method.
Formation which is an indicator of nonuniformity in fiber distribution is concerned with small scale variation in roughness, optical properties, print density, and so on. This study evaluated the formation of sheets which were made usning handsheet former and paper-machine with hydraulic headbox. Optical method and ${\beta}-ray$ method were used for formation test. The fiber type, freeness and basis weight of sheet were considered as variables. The formation of handsheet was affected by fiber type and freeness, and floe size distribution was influenced by basis weight. For machine made sheet, its formation seemed to be dependent on the hydraulic forces in headbox and former. When two formation test methods were compared, there was the highest relationship between optical formation index and normalized standard deviation from ${\beta}-ray$ method.
Inclusion complexation of $\alpha$-cyclodextrin($\alpha$-CD), $\beta$-cyclodextrin($\beta$-CD) and tri-O-methyl-$\beta$-cyclodextrin(tri-O-methyl-$\beta$-CD) with chlorpamide(CPA) in aqueous solution and in the solid state were studied by the solubility method, spectroscopy (UV, IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and powder X-ray diffractometry, and all their molar ratios were found to be 1:1. The solid complexes of CPA with three kinds of cyclodextrins were prepared by a freezedrying method, and their dissolution behaviors were examined. As a result, the release of CPA from the inclusion complexes was significantly improved. The intrinsic dissolution rate of CPA in cyclodextrin inclusion complexes was about 51 times ($\alpha$-CD inclusion complex) and 12 tmies ($\beta$-CD inclusion complex) larger than that of intact CPA.
To increase the bioavailability of norfloxacin, inclusion complex of antimicrobial agent norfloxacin with ${\beta}-Cyclodextrin$ was prepared and studied by the solubility method, spectrophotometric methods(UV, IR, $^1H-NMR$), differential thermal analysis, powder X-ray diffractometry, the physical properties, the antimicrobial activity, DNA binding and in situ recirculation technique. The conclusions are summerized as following; 1) The inclusion complexation was identified by means of solubility, spectrophotometry(UV, IR, NMR), DTA and X-ray diffraction. 2) The molar ratio of $norfloxacin-{\beta}-cyclodextrin$ complex was 1 : 1. 3) The stability constant of $norfloxacin-{\beta}-cyclodextrin$ complex was $21.5\;M^{-1}$, and both true and apparent partition coefficients of the inclusion complex were larger than those of norfloxacin. 4) The time required to dissolve 60% $(T_{60}%)$ of the inclusion complex was 120 min. in distilled water and in the artificial intestinal juice, while norfloxacin did not reach to 60% dissolution within 120 min. 5) The antimicrobial activity of the inclusion complex against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus showed no significant difference compared to that of norfloxacin alone. 6) Studies on binding properties between the inclusion complex and norfloxacin alone to DNA according to equilibrium dialysis showed no significant differency. 7) In situ absorption rates (Ka) of inclusion complex and norfloxacin alone were 0.229 and $0.102hr^{-1}$, respectively.
