  • In this paper, optimum methods of wind-induced vibration control of high-rise buildings are mainly studied. Two optimum methods, genetic algorithms (GA) method and Rayleigh damping method, are firstly employed and proposed to perform optimum study on wind-induced vibration control, six target functions are presented in GA method based on spectrum analysis. Structural optimum analysis programs are developed based on Matlab software to calculate wind-induced structural responses. A high-rise steel building with 20-storey is adopted and 22 kinds of control plans are employed to perform comparison analysis to validate the feasibility and validity of the optimum methods considered. The results show that the distributions of damping coefficients along structural height for mass proportional damping (MPD) systems and stiffness proportional damping (SPD) systems are entirely opposite. Damping systems of MPD and GAMPD (genetic algorithms and mass proportional damping) have the best performance of reducing structural wind-induced vibration response and are superior to other damping systems. Standard deviations of structural responses are influenced greatly by different target functions and the influence is increasing slightly when higher modes are considered, as shown fully in section 5. Therefore, the influence of higher modes should be considered when strict requirement of wind-induced vibration comfort is needed for some special structures.

  • FE models for complex or large-scaled structures that need detailed modeling of structural components are usually constructed using commercial analysis softwares. Updating of such FE model by conventional sensitivity-based methods is difficult since repeated computation for perturbed parameters and manual calculations are needed to obtain sensitivity matrix in each iteration. In this study, an FE model updating procedure avoiding such difficulties by using response surface (RS) method and a Pareto-based multiobjective optimization (MOO) was formulated and applied to FE models constructed with a commercial analysis package. The test building is a low-rise reinforced concrete building that has been seismically retrofitted. Dynamic properties of the building were extracted from vibration tests performed before and after the seismic retrofits, respectively. The elastic modulus of concrete and masonry, and spring constants for the expansion joint were updated. Two RS functions representing the errors in the natural frequencies and mode shape, respectively, were obtained and used as the objective functions for MOO. Among the Pareto solutions, the best compromise solution was determined using the TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) procedure. A similar task was performed for retrofitted building by taking the updating parameters as the stiffness of modified or added members. Obtained parameters of the existing building were reasonably comparable with the current code provisions. However, the stiffness of added concrete shear walls and steel section jacketed members were considerably lower than expectation. Such low values are seemingly because the bond between new and existing concrete was not as good as the monolithically casted members, even though they were connected by the anchoring bars.

  • The steel-concrete double composite girder in the negative flexural region combines an additional concrete slab to the steel bottom flange to prevent the local steel buckling, however, the additional concrete slab may lower down the neutral axis of the composite section, which is a sensitive factor to the tensile stress restraint on the concrete deck. This is actually of great importance to the structural rationality and durability, but has not been investigated in detail yet. In this case, a series of 5.5 m-long composite girder specimens were tested by negative bending, among which the bottom slab configuration and the longitudinal reinforcement ratio in the concrete deck were the parameters. Furthermore, an analytical study concerning about the influence of bottom concrete slab thickness on the cracking and sectional bending-carrying capacity were carried out. The test results showed that the additional concrete at the bottom improved the composite sectional bending stiffness and bending-carrying capacity, whereas its effect on the concrete crack distribution was not obvious. According to the analytical study, the additional concrete slab at the bottom with an equivalent thickness to the concrete deck slab may provide the best contributions to the improvements of crack initiation bending moment and the sectional bending-carrying capacity. This can be applied for the design practice.

  • Purpose: This paper presents graphic methods and desirability function approach to determine best vibration reducing configuration for Surion helicopter. Many flight tests were executed and nine vibration levels in cockpit, cabin, and engine room were measured in each test and analyzed to find optimal configuration. Methods: Graphic analysis methods such as matrix, scatter, and box plots are used to identify better vibration-reducing flight test conditions. As an integrated measure of the performance of 9 vibration levels desirability function approach is adopted. Results: Three vibration reducing configurations are found to be proper and one configuration is recommended. Conclusion: It is expected to be helpful to adopt graphic and desirability function methods presented in this paper in developing new products or systems like helicopters. For efficient and effective flight testing of helicopters, it will be necessary to have consistently homogeneous environment for flight testing and applying design of experiments techniques and analyzing test data.

  • To estimate the ventilation volume of mechanically ventilated swine farms, various regression models were applied, and errors were compared to select the regression model that can best simulate actual data. Linear regression, linear spline, polynomial regression (degrees 2 and 3), logistic curve, generalized additive model (GAM), and gompertz curve were compared. Overfitting models were excluded even when the error rate was small. The evaluation criteria were root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). The evaluation results indicated that degree 3 exhibited the lowest error rate; however, an overestimation contradiction was observed in a certain section. The logistic curve was the most stable and superior to all the models. In the estimation of ventilation volume by all of the models, the estimated ventilation volume of the logistic curve was the smallest except for the model with a large error rate and the overestimated model.

  • Dyeing fabric weaved with two or more kinds of fiber in different section has various dyeing interactions caused by different material properties of them. Newly developed knit fabric was used in this study. It composited by two different blocks, each block is included PET fiber and CDP fiber separately. Build-up properties with cation dyes and disperse dyes were good having average 83% of dyeing exhaustion yield on 5% o.w.f. dye concentration. As depending on dyeing methods, there were not showed direct interaction between cation dyes and disperse dyes. This result could be considered their different dyeing mechanism. Compatibility was best in S-type disperse dyes investigated their critical absorption range as $120^{\circ}C{\sim}130^{\circ}C$. Wash fastness was generally good in most dye.

  • The Cu-Fe permanent magnet were prepared in situ process, which has economic and mass productive merits in producing multi filamentary composites. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of reduction ratio and heat treatment on magnetic property. As the reduction ratio of Cu-Fe wire increased, the filament structure became finer and interfilament distances decreased and the morphology of filament cross section became ribbon shape. As Fe content increased significantly. The coercivity and squareness of Cu-55 wt%Fe composite increased as a reduction ratio became higher, whereas they increased to maximum values at 0.09 mm ${\phi}$ for Cu-30 wt%Fe, and 0.066 mm ${\phi}$ for CU-45 wt%Fe respectively, and decreased for further reduction. The magnetic properties of Cu-Fe composites can be more enhanced by intermediate heat treatment. The best magnetic properties were obtained from Cu-55 wt%Fe composite deformed to 0.054 mm ${\phi}$ and annealed.

  • This study tried to investigate the best mixing ratio by reviewing the quality characteristics such as moisture content, chromaticity and texture, and sensory characteristics of Seolgidduk made of different ratios of persimmon extracts. A and b color values appeared to increase and L value (lightness) to decrease according to the increase of persimmon extracts ratio. In the case of texture, hardness, adhesiveness, springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness increased according to the increase of added amount of dried persimmon extracts. The inside section of Seolgidduk was investigated through scanning electron microphotograph, and the $15\%$ of dried persimmon extracts had the smallest and uniform air cells. Seolgidduk with $15\%$ persimmon extracts showed the highest color, flavor and chewiness scores of 3.85, 3.65, and 3.80 from sensory evaluation, respectively. The moistness displayed significant differences according to the increment of the extract Seolgidduk with $15\%$ persimmon extracts displayed the highest overall acceptability of 3.95, while that of the control 3.10. From the above results, $15\%$ mixing ratio of dried persimmons extracts seems to be the most desirable for making Seolgidduk.

  • An enormous amount of efforts has been devoted to the development of finite elements for the bending problem of thick plates, especially based on Mindlin plate theory. Here, an approximate Constant Shear Angle Theory is usually used to take a transverse shear deformation of thick plate into consideration, which cannot be effectively considered the influence of transversal warping of cross-section with an increase of thickness. It might be the best way to represent the exact cross-sectional warping of the plate. The overall objective of this study is to develop a new formulation of plate including shear deformation and transversal warping, to perform extensive parametric studies comparing its results with those from Mindlin plate formulation, and to gain further insight into the influence of shear deformation and transversal warping of thick plate.

  • The purposes of this primary study are the selection of rail station and train operation management techniques for express-rail operation service at the convectional railway electrification. For these analyses, we used the KNR statistics and KROIS data of rail stations and train users by rail line. Therefore, we chose the important stations for express-rail operation of Kyongbu conventional rail line (esp. Seoul-Jochiwon section) through the rail transportation demand. and then, suggested primary operational management plan thorough the effects analyses of decreasing total travel time and increasing transportation demand by train speed-up. This study has some bounds and limits for proceeding, as it does, we excluded as followings: the conditionals of fate system, headways and train diagram, economic/financial analysis and technological assessment, and other railway technological infrastructures and a certain railcar specification, etc. . We propose to enlarge this study into a feasibility study of express or skip-stop operation service and compatible vehicle system decision considering with the best possible investment rail line, furthermore. in front of Kyongbu (Seoul-Busan) high-speed rail open in 2004, we have to try to progress the efficiencies of railway operation applying various train operation management plan.
