Tetracyclic 5-azaindole analogues were prepared by palladium-catalyzed sequential annulation of benzylidene(3-iodopyridinyl-4-yl)amine and 1-aryl substituted internal alkynes under $Pd(OAc)_2,\;n-Bu_4NCl,\;and Et_3N\;at\;120^{\circ}C.$ The synthetic procedure showed possible diversification of tetracyclic 5-azaindole analogues by varying the 1-aryl substituent in internal alkynes.
α-Linked D-altropyranosidic derivatives were obtained by configurational change at C-3 of α-D-mannopyranosides as the key step in preparation of allyl and methyl α-D-glycopyranosides of 6-deoxy-D-altro-heptose. The manno-altro conversion was effected by sequential reactions of Swern oxidation and stereoselective borohydride reduction. Allyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-2-O-p-methoxybenzyl-α-D-mannopyranoside was transformed to the corresponding altropyranoside via 3-oxo-arabino-hexopyranoside. Allyl 7-O-benzyl-6-deoxy-3,4-O-isopropylidene-α-D-altro-heptopyranoside has been prepared as a glycosyl acceptor to be coupled with β-D-GlcpNAc-(1→3)-α-D-Galp glycosyl donor for the synthesis of an O-antigen repeating unit of Campylobacter jejuni serotypes O:23 and O:36. Stereoselective borohydride reduction also succeeded in yielding methyl 2,4,7-tri-O-benzyl-6-deoxy-α-D-altro-heptopyranoside from the corresponding 3-oxo-α-D-arabino-heptopyranoside. C-6 Homologation was achieved by sequential reactions of cyanide displacement of 6-sulphonates, reduction of the resulting heptopyranosidurononitrile with diisobutylaluminum hydride, hydrolysis of the imine, and further reduction with sodium borohydride.
A new organic Schiff base compound N-benzylidene-2,5-dichloroaniline (BDC) was synthesized and the structure of the Schiff base is illuminated by some spectroscopic techniques. In addition, whether it is an applicable inhibitor in the industrial field was examined by conventional methods such as linear polarization resistance (LPR), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization for different concentrations. The BDC concentration and temperature effects were surveyed for elucidating the inhibitive mechanism. The BDC molecules are adsorbed to surface of mild steel via the Langmuir isotherm. Atomic force (AFM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) techniques were utilized to give insight into surface characterization.
2,4-Di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile (la), methyl 2,4-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate (lb), 3,4-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidene malononitrile (2a), methyl 3,4-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate (2b), 2,5-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile (3a), methyl 2,5-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate (3b), 2,3-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenemalononitrile (4a), and methyl 2,3-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate (4b) were prepared by the condensation of 2,4-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzaldehyde, 3,4-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzaldehyde, 2,5-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy) benzaldehyde, and 2,3-di-(2'-vinyloxyethoxy)benzaldehyde with malononitrile or methyl cyanoacetate, respectively. Trifunctional divinyl ether monomers 1-4 were polymerized readily with boron trifluoride etherate as a cationic initiator to give optically transparent swelling poly(vinyl ethers) 5-8 havina oxybenzylidenemalononitrile and oxycyanocinnamate, which is presumably effective chromophore for second-order nonlinear optical applications. Polymers 5-8 were not soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and DMSO due to crosslinking. Polymers 5-8 showed a thermal stability up to 300 ℃ in TGA thermograms, which is acceptable for electrooptic device applications.
The solid complexes of La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Gd(III) with 4-hydroxy-3-(1-{2-(2,4-dihydroxy-benzylidene)-amino phenylimino}-ethyl)-6-methyl-pyran-2-one ($H_2$L) derived from o-phenylenediamine, 3-acetyl-6-methyl-(2H)pyran,2,4(3H)-dione (dehydroacetic acid or DHA) and 2, 4-dihydroxy benzaldehyde have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductometry, magnetic susceptibility, UV-visible, FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis study, and screened for antimicrobial activity. The FT-IR spectral data suggest that the ligand behaves as a dibasic tetradentate ligand with ONNO donor atoms sequence towards central metal ion. From the microanalytical data, the stoichiometry of the complexes has been found to be 1:1 (metal: ligand). The physico-chemical data suggests distorted octahedral geometry for La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Nd(III), Sm(III) and Gd(III) complexes. The X-ray diffraction data suggests monoclinic crystal system for La(III) and Ce(III) and orthorombic crystal system for Pr(III) and Nd(III) complexes. Thermal behavior (TG/DTA) of the complexes was studied and kinetic parameters were determined by Horowitz-Metzger and Coats-Redfern methods. The ligand and its metal complexes were screened for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Bacillus Sp. and fungicidal activity against Aspergillus Niger, Trichoderma and Fusarium oxysporum.
Two coupled molecules were successfully synthesized by condensation of amine-donor-substituted barbituric acid derivativies as nonlinear optical chromophores. A flexible spacer of the alkyl chain with different lengths of carbon chains (5 and 6 carbons) was introduced between two chromophores, which prevented crystallization and aggregation of molecules. Two coupled molecules (B-Cn-B, n=5, 6) had glass-transition temperatures on a second heating around 81 and 76$^{\circ}C$ without melting points, respectively. To explore the linear optical properties, thin-films were prepared and examined by a photometry method using Nd:YVO$_4$ CW laser. Also, microscopic and macroscopic nonlinear optical properties were measured by Hyper-Rayleigh Scattering (HRS) and the Maker Fringes method using Nd:YAG ps pulse laser, respectively. In spite of the moderate hyperpolarizabilities of coupled molecules, the second order NLO coefficient (d$\_$33/) was larger than the conventional Disperse Red 1 doped PMMA polymeric system.
We prepared the photorefractive sol-gel glass based on organic-inorganic hybrid materials containing a charge transporting molecule, second-order nonlinear optical (NLO) chromophore, photosensitizer, and plasticizer. Carbazole and 2-{ 4-[(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-methyl-amino]-benzylidene}-malononitrile were reacted with isocyanato-triethoxy silane and the functionalized silanes were employed to fabricate the efficient photorefractive media induding 2,4,7-trinitrot1uorenone (TNF) to form a charge transfer complex. The prepared sol-gel glass samples showed a large net gain coefficient and high diffraction efficiency at a certain composition. As the concentration of photosensitizer increased, the photorefractive properties were enhanced due to an increment of charge carrier density. Dynamic behavior of the diffraction efficiency was also investigated with the concentration of the photosensitizer.
A series of amorphous molecules that possess both photoconductive and electro-optic properties was synthesized in order to investigate photorefractive properties of bifunctional organic-glasses. Diethylaminobenzaldehyde-diphenylhydrazone was covalently attached to 5-(4-diethylamino-benzylidene)-1,3-dimethylpyrimidine-2,4,6-trione through a flexible alkyl chain (3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 carbons) containing two ether linkages. The longer linkage not only lowered the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of the molecules, but also allowed faster orientation of the chromophore. To examine the photorefractive properties, a 50 ${\mu}$m-thick film was prepared from the mixture of a bifunctional molecule, butyl benzyl phthalate, and $C_{60}$. The photoconductivity of this composite was as high as $8.01\;{\times}\;10^{-12}$ S/cm at 60 V/ ${\mu}$m, and the maximum diffraction efficiency ( ${\eta}_{max}$) of 50 ${\mu}$m-thick film was about 5% at 80 V/ ${\mu}$m.

A new hydrazone derivatives namely (E)-N'-(4-(dimethylamino)benzylidene)-2-(5-methoxy-2-methyl-1H-indol-3-yl)acetohydrazide (HIND) has been confirmed for mitigating the corrosion of the steel rebar exposed to chloride contaminated synthetic concrete pore solution (ClSCPS). The mitigation of corrosion properties has been characterized by weight loss and electrochemical methods (Electrochemical impedance, Potentiodynamic polarization studies) as well as surface observations. The presence of HIND in the ClSCPS decreased the corrosion of steel rebar by adsorption of HIND molecules on the surface of the steel rebar. The optimal HIND concentration was 0.5 mmol/L, corresponding to an inhibition efficiency of 88.4%. The use of HIND enables the corrosion process to have a higher energy barrier. X-ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy interpretations confirmed that HIND mitigates the corrosion attack on the surface steel rebar.
A new measuring system for ultrasonic spectroscopy was constructed, utilizing PVDF [poly(vinylidene fluoride)] polymer films as wideband transducers. In a test of its performance, this measuring system was successfully applied to study of the nematic-isotropic phase transition in MBBA(p-methoxybenzylidene-p-n-butylan iline) liquid crystal. We could be confirmed that the phase transition in MBBA is $47^{\circ}C$, which is agree with the exciting optical method. The dependence of frequency on the phase transition was not observed, and but Maximum ultrasonic amplitude is measured for the resonance frequency 2MHz in PVDF transducers, These results shows that the spectroscopy with PVDF transducers takes advantage of studying the transient phenomena. When our apparatus is applied in medical purposes, It will be possible diagnostic for sickle-cell anemia and arterial sclerosis.
