This study has performed to identify the effect of safety behavior, safety climate and its satisfaction through the Behavior Based Safety Program for 5 sites of the same Company. The study result indicated that the level of recognized safety behavior, climate and its satisfaction improved by conducting observation of worker behavior, jobsite feedback, displaying feedback chart, safety training, behavior modification committee. Additionally, the participation level of safety activity and conformity level of safety rule improved. The recognized level of safety climate improved together with recognized safety value by management, safety participation of direct boss, communication with each other to be dealt with safety matter, safety training material to be contained unsafe behavior and practical hazard, understanding and conducting safety standard. In addition, The recognized level of satisfaction improved together with safety behavior and climate. As a result, this program provided an opportunities to correct worker's unsafe behavior to safe behavior in conjunction with increasing number of observation, providing additional time to have a safety check, safety suggestion to improve work situation and a permit to work rule. It will be integrated into health and safety management system to be able to reduce industrial accident.
This study examined the effect of safety leadership coaching program on managers' safety management and workers' safety behaviors in construction site. Three or four managers and about one hundred workers at each site participated in this study. Safety leadership coaching program consisted of safety leadership education, goal setting, self-monitoring and feedback on workers' safety behavior, reward for three safety management behaviors; (1) safety observations of workers safety behavior and (2) providing positive feedback on safe behavior (3) providing corrective feedback on risk behavior and daily safety education for workers. Dependent variables were the percentage of safe behaviors of workers and frequency of managers' safety management behaviors. A nonconcurrent AB multiple baseline design across settings was adopted. After baseline(A), safety leadership coaching program (B) was introduced to each site. The results showed that safety leadership coaching program was effective to increase managers' and workers' safety behaviors. These results suggest that safety leadership coaching program developed in this study would be an alternative treatment technique to improve construction safety management. In addition, the implications, limitations of this study, and future studies are discussed.
To prevent food-borne diseases and ensure food safety, foodservice operators have been implementing the HACCP system in their facilities. Employees' knowledge of food safety can be improved through training and, as a result, their food safety behavior can be positively changed. A nonequivalent pretest and posttest control group model was designed to investigate the effectiveness of HACCP-based training on hospital foodservice employees' food safety knowledge and behavior, and to determine relationships between food safety knowledge and food safety behavior. The subjects used in this study were 84 hospital foodservice employees, assigned either to the intervention group (n=44) or the control group (n=40). Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Descriptive statistics were computed, while the Student's t-test and ANCOVA (Analysis of Covariance) were used to investigate significant differences between groups, and the Pearson correlation was used to determine significant correlations. There were significant gains in both food safety knowledge and behavior, after the HACCP-based training. However, no significant correlation was found between food safety knowledge and food safety behavior. Based on this study we conclude that HACCP-based training is effective in improving both the food safety knowledge and food safety behavior of hospital foodservice employees.
This study investigated the impact of a safety coaching program on the safety behavior and safety climate among expressway safety patrols. Four to seven patrols from each of the three branches participated in this study. The safety coaching program was developed based on the GROW model, with main contents including recognizing individual differences, exploring safety values, communicating near-misses, providing effective and efficient feedback, employing non-violent communication, and fostering commitment toward safety behaviors. Additionally, each session included self-monitoring and peer review of each item based on a critical behavior checklist developed for this study, with challenging goals set based on the monitoring and review. The safety coaching program comprised six sessions in three branches, while three other branches were assigned as a control group. A non-equivalent control group experimental design was applied. Dependent variables included observed and perceived safety behavior, safety climate, psychological safety, and feedback. The results indicated that the safety coaching program effectively increased patrols' safety behavior and safety climate. Furthermore, psychological safety and feedback improved. These findings suggest that the developed safety coaching program could serve as an alternative method to enhance safety management for expressway safety patrols. Finally, the implications, limitations, and directions for future research are discussed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate predictors of nurses' patient safety behavior during inter-hospital transfer. The study was based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB). Methods: A descriptive survey design was used. Data were collected with a self-administrated 39-item questionnaire completed by 111 nurses from a university hospital in Seoul, South Korea. The questionnaire was developed based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) guideline and included measure of self-reported past patient safety behaviors, intentions, attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral controls. Ethical approval was granted by the hospital review board. Hierarchical regression analyses were carried out. Results: The average score of patient safety behavior was $4.21{\pm}0.63$ (5 point scale). The TPB variables explained 49.9%of the variance in patient safety behavior. Intention and subjective norm were the most significant predictors of nurses' patient safety behavior. Attitude was related to nurses' patient safety behavior. Conclusion: TPB variables predicted the nurses' patient safety behavior during inter-hospital transfer of patients except for perceived behavioral controls. The results of this study suggest that better strategies for subjective norms and intentions related to patient safety behavior will be helpful in safety culture reform.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between logistics safety climate, logistics safety behavior, and logistics safety performance and the mediating effects of safety knowledge and safety motivation, and to suggest its strategic implications for the improvement of the logistics safety performance. Based on previous researches related to logistics safety, safety climate, safety knowledge, safety motivation, safety behavior and safety performance, research models and hypotheses were set up and questionnaires were conducted. For the hypothesis test, reliability analysis and validity analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation model analysis, and bootstrapping were applied. As a result of the empirical analysis, the logistics safety climate had a significant positive effect on logistics safety knowledge, logistics safety motivation, and logistics safety behavior, whereas logistics safety knowledge and logistics safety motivation had a meaningful positive effect on logistics safety behavior. Further, logistics safety behavior was found to have a significant positive effect on logistics safety performance. Safety behavior had a significant mediating effect, but safety knowledge and safety motivation did not. However, logistics safety climate, logistics safety knowledge, and logistics safety motivation did not have a significant effect on logistics safety performance.
There are various approaches to prevent industrial accidents, of which the focus on human factors is behavior based safety(BBS). The BBS provides positive feedback on safety behavior and corrective feedback on unsafe behavior. Determining the feedback ratio of positive and correct feedback is an important issue in BBS. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of positive and corrective feedback ratio on safety performance and feedback acceptance. The participants of this study were sixty undergraduate and graduate students at C University in Seoul, Korea. Participants were asked to work on a simulated welding task. The independent variable of was different positive vs. corrective feedback ratio (1:1 and 1:4). The dependent variables were the amount and the number of correctly completed work tasks, compliance rate of safety behavior, and feedback acceptance. The experimental design of this study was 2 x 2 mixed design. The results showed that feedback, regardless of the ratio, increased both correctly completed work tasks and the compliance rate of safety behavior, while 1:1 positive vs. corrective feedback ratio was more effective than 1:4 ratio. In addition, 1:1 ratio produced higher level of feedback acceptance compared to 1:4 ratio.
This research is based on the relevant research literature on the voice behavior, this study examines the influence of trust in leader on voice behavior. And this study examines the role of psychological safety as a mediating between trust in leader and voice behavior. This study uses SPSS for data analysis. The results of the study are as follows: This study explains the impact of trust in leader on psychological safety, and explains the impact of trust in leader on organization members' voice behavior, as well as the impact of psychological safety on organization members' voice behavior. And this study also explains the influence of psychological safety as an intermediary effect on trust in leader and voice behavior. Overall, the higher the level of organization members' trust in leader, the more they will increase the level of psychological safety of the organization members, which will prompt the organization members to make more voice behavior.
This study aims to analyze the differences between the safety leadership of the laboratory director, safety climate, safety motivation, and safety behavior of research workers based on whether they have participated in the certification system for exemplary laboratories in safety management (CSEL). An online survey was conducted among research workers to analyze the effect of the CSEL. The independent variables used in the survey were participation and non-participation in the CSEL, while the dependent variables were the safety leadership of the laboratory director, safety climate, safety motivation, and safety behavior of research workers. The results demonstrate that the group that participated in the CSEL had statistically significantly higher levels of safety leadership, safety climate, safety motivation, and safety behavior than the one that did not do so. Therefore, it can be concluded that the CSEL has a positive impact on the establishment of an autonomous safety management system in a laboratory by improving the safety culture and safety behavior of research workers. Further, the extrinsic factors, which are subfactors for safety motivation, did not reflect a significant difference between the group that participated in the CSEL and the one that did not. Thus, a reward system for research workers with excellent safety activities should be operated by research institutes since it is necessary to strengthen the intrinsic safety motivation of individual research workers which can be strengthened by compensation. The government should consider measures such as providing research incentives to researchers participated in CSEL.
This study examined the effect of Behavior Based Safety(BBS) program on safe behaviors of bus drivers and passengers. Four male bus drivers working at a H transportation company situated in Seoul participated in this study. BBS program consisted of education, prompts, and self-monitoring with goal setting. Dependent variables were the percentage of two safe driving behaviors of bus drivers (departure after stopping for 3 seconds, announcement for holding bus handles) and the percentage of one safe behavior of passengers getting on the busses those drivers drove (holding bus handles). A primary observer and two trained assistant observers measured two safe behaviors of the bus drivers with behavior checklists by riding on the busses and the passengers' safe behavior was observed by CCTV installed on each bus. An ABC multiple baseline design across participants was adopted. After baseline(A), education and prompts(B) and self-monitoring with goal setting(C) were introduced sequentially to each participant. The results showed that BBS program was effective to increase both bus drivers' and passengers' safe behaviors. Especially self-monitoring with goal setting was more effective in improving safe behaviors of bus drivers than education/prompts. These results suggest that education/prompts and self-monitoring with goal setting would be an alternative treatment technique to improve safety for lone workers such as bus drivers.
