Bond between reinforcing bar and surrounding concrete is supposed to transfer load safely in the process of design of reinforced concrete structures. Bond failure of reinforcing bar generally take place by splitting of the concrete cover as bond force between concrete and reinforcing bars exceeds the confinement of the concrete cover and reinforcement. However, the confinement force has a limitation. Thus, the only variable is the bearing angle corresponding to the change of bond force. Higher rib height bars possessing higher shearing resistance can maintain higher bearing angle and higher splitting resistance when bars are highly confined, and consequently higher bond strength, than lower rib higher bars. In this study, from the evaluate bond strength of high Relative Rib Area Bars Using beam-end test specimens are compared with the current provisions for development of reinforcement, and the improved design method of bond strength is proposed.
Pressures in compression pockets consists of two identical spiral scrolls are influenced by gas flow resistance in discharge process and leakages in radial and tangential directions between two scroll wraps. In this paper, considering geometrical characteristics of these members, flow resistance and refrigerant gas leakage losses, pressure variations in compression pockets are calculated. For a scroll compressor model with fixed crank mechanism, acting load on crankshaft is analyzed. And, for a vertical type crankshaft-journal bearing system used in scroll compressor, nonlinear transient response is calculated including nonlinear fluid film reaction forces of journal bearings.

This study is directed to propose a stability analysis and Design Criteria for Bridge Caisson foundations, with Could possibly replace the traditionals W.S.D. provisions of the Current Code, based on the FBOR(Load Factors based on optimum Reliability). The optimum reliability indices(Vertical bearing Capacity : $\beta$opt : 3.19, Lateral bearing Capacity : $\beta$opt= 3.15(ordinary), $\beta$opt : 2.93 (earthquake), Shearing resistance Capacity ; $\beta$opt : 2.87) are Selected as optimal Values Considering our practice base on the Calibration with the current Bridge Caisson foundation design Safety provisions, Load and resistance factors are measure by Using the proposed uncertainties and the Selected optimum reliability indices. furthermore, a set of nominal safety factors are proposed for the U.S.D. design provisions.
LRB(Lead rubber bearing) has small resistance force against slowly acting loadings such as temporal and creep loadings vice versa large resistance force against rapid loadings such as earthquake and braking loadings. By those mechanical characteristics, it has the advantage to reduce longitudinal load acting on abutments and piers, and moreover to in1prove the running stability of train by restricting the behavior of bridge under the required level. In this study, a stability evaluation method of CWR on the bridge with LRB is presented. Several parametric studies are carried to investigate how LRB contributes to the improvement of CWR stability.

The bearing capacity of the wall against the eccentric load when the washbasin was attached on the ALC block wall was tested. Test methods are BS EN 14688 and BS 5234-2. Tests in accordance with BS EN 14688 showed that the holding capacity of steel was much stronger and more stable when HA-II (chemical anchor) was used than when the washbasin was fixed using HA-I (plastic anchor). As an experimental result according to the Annex K of BS 5234-2, the bearing capacity of ALC block wall corresponded to the "stage in which the force works(performance grade) 1,500N" for all of the cases where a washbasin is fixed using two types of the wall's dedicated anchors(HA-I and HA-II).
Reusing the used pile has not yet been implemented due to the unpredictability of the bearing capacity evolution. This paper presents an analytic approach to estimate the sides shear setup after the dissipation of pore pressure. Long-term evolution of adjacent soil is simulated by viscoelastic-plastic constitutive model. Then, an innovative concept of quasi-overconsolidation is proposed to estimate the strength changes of surrounding soil. Total stress method (α method) is employed to evaluate the long term bearing capacity. Measured data of test piles in Louisiana and semi-logarithmic time function are cited to validate the effectiveness of the presented method. Comparisons illustrate that the presented approach gives a reasonably prediction of the side shear setup. Both the presented method and experiment show the shaft resistance increase by 30%-50%, and this highlight the potential benefit of piles reutilization.

Burnishing, as a micro plastic working, is a finishing process used in conjuction with or in replacement of reaming, honing, lapping, and/or grinding. The tool which is a smooth, round steel ball slightly larger than the bore is pushed through pre-machined hole, leaving a closely controlled finish. The major application of the processes is to improve the geometric and mechanical properties of surface such as (1) dimensional accuracy, (2) surface roughness, (3) bearing ratio, (4) surface hardness, (5) wear resistance, (6) fatigue and corrosion resistance, etc. Therefore, this study carried out some experiments to illustrate the theoretical formula and to investigate surface accuracy (e.g. variation of diameter, surface roughness, bearing ratio) in accordance with the applied burnishing load.
In this study, inverse analysis was performed on the bi-directional axial compressive load test conducted on drilled shafts. And the bearing capacities were analyzed by numerical analysis of various pile tip ground conditions of silt clay, silt sand, sand silt, sand gravel, weathered rock, and soft rock. The bearing capacities were analyzed using the P-S method, the Davisson method, and the allowable sttlement of 25.4 mm. The minimum allowable bearing capacities analyzed by three methods were found to be 19.64 MN ~ 24.96 MN. At this time, the base resistances were sharing a 2% ~ 12% of a head load, shaft resistance were shared 88% ~ 98% of the head load. The greater the strength of pile tip was found to increase the allowable bearing capacity. However, the difference between the maximum allowable bearing capacity and the minimum allowable bearing capacity was 5.32 MN, and the increase in the allowable bearing capacity was only 27% depending on the pile tip.
Model pile tests using calibration chamber are performed in !his paper in order to clarify the effect of the fundamental differences between the newly developed SPLT(Simple Pile Loading Test)and the conventional pile loading test on the pile bearing capacity. They are : (1) the direction of the applied load to mobilize the skin friction ; and (2) the use of reduced sifted sliding core. The conclusions obtained from the model pile tests are as follows : (1) The skin friction in tension loading is found to be somewhat smaller than that in compression loading. The average ration is 0.73 with the coefficient of variation (COV) of 0.18. (2) The ratio of the tip resistance rosin연 the reduced sized sliding core to that using the whole shoe shows wide scattering ; its average is 0.99 and the COV is 0.28. The aver - age of 0.99 means that there is no considerable difference in the tip resistance whether the reduced sized sliding core or the whole shoe is used, on condition that penetration depth ratio is larger than 4 : if the boundary effect of the chamber test is considered, the resistance of the whole shoe might be even larger.
During the process of sulfur dioxide removal, flue gas desulfurization equipment provides a serious internal corrosion environment in creating sulfuric acid dew point corrosion. Therefore, the utilities must use the excellent corrosion resistance of steel desulfurization facilities in the atmosphere. Until now, the trend in developing anti-sulfuric acid steels was essentially the addition of Cu, in order to improve the corrosion resistance. The experimental alloy used in this study is Fe-0.03C-1.0Mn-0.3Si-0.15Ni-0.31Cu alloys to which Ru, Zn and Ta were added. In order to investigate the effect of $H_2SO_4$ concentration and the alloying elements, chemical and electrochemical corrosion tests were performed. In a low concentration of $H_2SO_4$ solution, the major factor affecting the corrosion rate of low alloy steels was the exchange current density for $H^+/H_2$ reaction, while in a high concentration of $H_2SO_4$ solution, the major factors were the thin and dense passive film and resulting passivation behavior. The alloying elements reducing the exchange current density in low concentration of $H_2SO_4$, and the alloying elements decreasing the passive current density in high concentration of $H_2SO_4$, together play an important role in determining the corrosion rate of Cu-bearing low alloy steels in a wide range of $H_2SO_4$ solution.
