Rapid increase of Refrigeration and Air conditioning system in modem industries brings attention to the urgency of core technology development in the area. This paper presents theoretical investigation of the lubrication characteristics of rotary compressor for refrigeration and air conditioning. In order to analyze the lubrication characteristics of the main & sub bearing of rotary compressor, the bearing force and locus of shaft center are analyzed by the dynamic analysis of rotary compressor and numerical analysis of Reynolds equation as the operating condition is changed in various ways. In this paper, we used the Runge-Kutta method for the dynamic analysis of rotary compressor and the SOR (Successive OverRelaxation) method for the numerical analysis of Reynolds equation. The result shows that the operating condition of sub bearing is severer than that of main bearing, and eccentricity ratio grows as the bearing force increases. It is believed that the result can be applied to the design of alternative refrigerant rotary compressor.

In order to estimate the damage of orchards due' to natural disasters such as typhoon, severe rain, freezing or frost, it is necessary to estimate the number of fruit bearing before and after the damage. To estimate the fruit bearing after the damages are easily done by delegations, but it cost too high to survey every insured farm household and calculate the fruit bearing before the damage. In this article, we suggest to use a random coefficient model to predict the numbers of fruit bearing in the orchards before the damage based on the tree age and the area information.
In order to investigate mechanical properties in the core area of Square Hollow Section(SHS) column connection with external stiffening ring, four specimens were tested under the static tension load. The failure modes, load-displacement curves and strain distribution were analyzed to study the mechanical properties and the load transfer mechanism of the core area of connections. The connections behave good ductility and load-bearing capacity under the static tension load. Parametric analysis was also conducted, in which the thickness of steel tube, extended width and thickness of the stiffening ring were considered as the parameters to investigate the effects on mechanical properties of the connections. Based on the experimental results, an analytical method for the bearing capacity of connection with external stiffening ring under the static tension load was proposed. The theoretical results and the experimental results are in good agreement, which indicates that the theoretical calculation method of the bearing capacity is advisable.

Free flap reconstruction of the foot has become one of the standard procedures at the present time, but choice of a free flap for the soft tissue defect of the foot according to location and size remains controversial. We evaluated the results of free flap reconstruction for the soft tissue defects of the foot. Twenty seven free flaps to the foot were performed between May 1986 and December 2000 in the department of Orthopedic Surgery. Patient age ranged from 3 to 60 years. Male to female distribution was 20:7. Mean follow-up period was 30.5 months which ranged from 12 months to 60 months. The indications for a specific flap depended on the location and extension of the foot defect. In weight-bearing area and amputation stump, the authors chose the sensate (reinnervated) dorsalis pedis flaps (n=7) and sensate radial forearm flaps (n=2). In nonweight-bearing area including dorsum of the foot and area around Achilles tendon, we performed nonsensate (non-reinnervated) free flap reconstructions which included dorsalis pedis flaps (n=5), groin flap (n=1), radial forearm flaps (n=6), scapular flaps (n=4), latissimus dorsi flaps (n=2). Twenty-six flaps transferred successfully (96.3%). The sensate flaps which were performed in weight-bearing area and amputation stumps survived in all cases and recovered protective sensation. Mean two-point discrimination was 26 mm at the last follow up. As a conclusion, the selection of a proper flap depends on the location and extension of the foot defect and patient's age. Fasciocutaneous flap including radial forearm flaps and dorsalis pedis flaps were the best choice in nonweight-bearing area. The sensate free flaps which are performed in the weight-bearing area and amputation stumps can produce better outcome than nonsensate free flap.
Artificial neural networks (ANN) have been the focus of several studies when it comes to evaluating the pile's bearing capacity. Nonetheless, the principal drawbacks of employing this method are the sluggish rate of convergence and the constraints of ANN in locating global minima. The current work aimed to build four ANN-based prediction models enhanced with methods from the black hole algorithm (BHA), league championship algorithm (LCA), shuffled complex evolution (SCE), and symbiotic organisms search (SOS) to estimate the carrying capacity of piles in cold climates. To provide the crucial dataset required to build the model, fifty-eight concrete pile experiments were conducted. The pile geometrical properties, internal friction angle 𝛗 shaft, internal friction angle 𝛗 tip, pile length, pile area, and vertical effective stress were established as the network inputs, and the BHA, LCA, SCE, and SOS-based ANN models were set up to provide the pile bearing capacity as the output. Following a sensitivity analysis to determine the optimal BHA, LCA, SCE, and SOS parameters and a train and test procedure to determine the optimal network architecture or the number of hidden nodes, the best prediction approach was selected. The outcomes show a good agreement between the measured bearing capabilities and the pile bearing capacities forecasted by SCE-MLP. The testing dataset's respective mean square error and coefficient of determination, which are 0.91846 and 391.1539, indicate that using the SCE-MLP approach as a practical, efficient, and highly reliable technique to forecast the pile's bearing capacity is advantageous.

Pseudo static analysis using the Mononobe-Okabe method and numerical analysis considering a small strain nonlinearity from the soil were performed to determine the bearing pressure changes of the inverted T-type retaining wall subjected to earthquake motions. In many cases, an inverted 'T' type retaining wall of more than 10 m shows bearing capacity failure under earthquake conditions, despite showing sufficient bearing capacity during normal conditions. The most important reason for this is the change of the effective base area during an earthquake. In this paper, the change of the effective base area of an inverted 'T' type wall is analyzed by using finite difference element code (FLAC). In addition, the effect of dynamic bearing capacity coefficients (which has been suggested by several researchers but not adopted in current design codes and procedures) was verified.
Seabed settlement and erosion sometimes occurr when a artificial reef is installed in soft seabed. Therefore, this study carried out CBR test and water tank settlement test to investigate settlement behavior of artificial reef according to reinforcement characteristics such as reinforced types and reinforced area. Soil types of ground are sand, silt and clay deposits. Three reinforced types were prepared: unreinforced, geogrid and hybrid bamboo mat(HBM) with different reinforced area. Laboratory test results indicated that reinforced artificial reef improved bearing capacity of ground and reduced settlement as reinforced area increased. Especially, reinforced HBM provided more bearing capacity and less settlement than reinforced geogrid.
Compression splices are required for all compression members in almost all of the floors in high-rise buildings. Therefore, a clear understanding of the behavior of compression splices can provide a rational design of compression splices. Tests of compression splices with bearing only and bond only cases were conducted to investigate the component resistance characteristics of compression splices. Test results showed that the circumferential tensile stresses induced by bearing and bond overlapped at the end of the splice length deterred bond and bearing splices from developing target splicing strength when both normal bond and bearing splices were used. In particular, the bearing strength was more significantly reduced than the bond strength since the bearing relied on the limited area near the end of the splice length. However, the strength of the normal splice was always higher than the strength of the bond only or the bearing only case. Consequently, the study results showed that splice strength in compression cannot be improved by means of removing bond or bearing. In addition, the bond strength in bond only splices was nearly same as the bond strength in tension splices and the strength increase of compression splice is attributed to end bearing only characteristic.

Mathematical constants for multiplication with leaf length (I) or breadth (b) or l ${\times}$ b have been worked out for determining leaf area in promising mulberry genotypes viz., Chinese White, S-146, Chak Majra and Sujanpur Local of sub-tropical India. When pooled, the mathematical constants worked out were 8.1132, 10.1019 and 0.5992 for multiplication with leaf length, breadth and l ${\times}$ b, respectively, for genotypes bearing un-lobbed leaves and 6.9447, 8.2761 and 0.5009 for multiplication with leaf length, breadth and l ${\times}$ b, respectively for genotypes bearing lobbed leaves. Leaf area can be worked out by using any constant by multiplying either with leaf length or breadth or both (l ${\times}$ b). Estimated leaf areas worked out were found significantly and positively correlated with actual leaf area (r=999$^{**}$). The suggested present non-destructive method by using mathematical constants is very quick and alternative to electronic leaf area meter for spot leaf area determination in mulberry which is the only food source for mulberry silkworm in sericulture industry.
Deep foundations have been popularly installed in hard stratum such as gravels or rocks in Korea. However, it is necessary to consider sand or sandy gravel layers that locate at the mid-depths as the bearing stratum of piles in the thick Nakdong River deltaic deposits, as done in the Chaophraya (Bangkok) and Mississippi River deltas. This study was focused on the finding of suitable methods for estimating bearing capacity when driving prestressed high-strength concrete (PHC) piles to a required depth in the deltaic area. Ground investigation was performed at five locations of two sites in the deltaic area. Bearing capacity of the driven piles has been computed using a number of proposed methods such as CPT-based and other analytical methods, based on the ground investigation and comparison one another other. Five PDA (pile driving analyzer) tests were systematically carried out at the whole depths of embedded piles, which is a well-blown useful technique for the purposes. As the results, the bearing capacities calculated by various methods were compared with the PDA and static load testing results. It was found that the shaft resistance is significantly governed by set-up effects and then the long-term value agrees well with that of the $\beta$ method. Also, the design methods for toe resistance were determined based on the SLT result, rather than PDA results that led to underestimation. Moreover, using the CPT results, appropriate methods were proposed for calculating the bearing capacity of the piles in the area.
