To develop a high capacity lithium secondary battery, a new approach to anode material synthesis is required, capable of producing an anode that exceeds the energy density limit of a carbon-based anode. This research synthesized carbon nano silicon composites as an anode material for a secondary battery using the RF thermal plasma method, which is an ecofriendly dry synthesis method. Prior to material synthesis, a silicon raw material was mixed at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 wt% based on the carbon raw material in a powder form, and the temperature change inside the reaction field depending on the applied plasma power was calculated. Information about the materials in the synthesized carbon nano silicon composites were confirmed through XRD analysis, showing carbon (86.7~52.6 %), silicon (7.2~36.2 %), and silicon carbide (6.1~11.2 %). Through FE-SEM analysis, it was confirmed that the silicon bonded to carbon was distributed at sizes of 100 nm or less. The bonding shape of the silicon nano particles bonded to carbon was observed through TEM analysis. The initial electrochemical charging/discharging test for the 40 wt% silicon mixture showed excellent electrical characteristics of 1,517 mAh/g (91.9 %) and an irreversible capacity of 133 mAh/g (8.1 %).
In line with the megatrend of 2050 carbon neutrality, the amount of critical minerals used in clean-energy technology is expected to increase fourfold and sixfold, respectively, according to the Paris Agreement-based scenario as well as the 2050 carbon-neutrality scenario. And, in the case of Korea, in terms of the battery supply chain used for secondary batteries, the midstream that manufactures battery materials and battery cell packs shows strength, but the upstream that provides and processes raw materials is experiencing difficulties. The Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources has established a strategy to secure lithium, nickel, and cobalt and is conducting surveys to respond to the upstream risk of these types of battery raw materials. In the case of lithium, exploration has been carried out in Uljin, Gyeongsangbuk-do since 2020, and by the end of 2021, the survey area was selected for precision exploration by synthesizing all exploration data and building a 3D model. Potential resources will be assessed in 2022. In the case of nickel, the prospective site will be selected by the end of 2022 through a preliminary survey targeting 10 nickel sulfide deposits that have been prospected in the past. In the case of cobalt, Boguk cobalt is known only in South Korea, but there is only a record that cobalt was produced as a minor constituent of hydrothermal deposit. According to the literature, a cobalt ore body was found in the contact area between serpentinite and granite, and a protocol for cobalt exploration in Korea will be established.

Ni-rich cathode is one of the promising candidates for high-energy lithium-ion battery applications. Due to its specific capacity, easy industrialization, and good circulation ability, Ni-rich cathode materials have been widely used for lithium-ion batteries. However, due to the limitation of the co-precipitation method, including sewage pollution, and the instability of the long production cycles, developing a new efficient and environmentally friendly synthetic approach is critical. In this study, the Ni0.91Co0.06Mn0.03CO3 precursor powder was successfully synthesized by an efficient spray-drying method using carbonate compounds as a raw material. This Ni0.91Co0.06Mn0.03CO3 precursor was calcined by mixing with LiOH·H2O (5 wt% excess) at 480℃ for 5 hours and then sintered at two different temperatures (780℃/800℃) for 15 hours under an oxygen atmosphere to complete the cathode active material preparation, which is a key component of lithium-ion batteries. As a result, LiNi0.91Co0.06Mn0.03O2 cathode active material powders were obtained successfully via a simple sintering process on the Ni0.91Co0.06Mn0.03CO3 precursor powder. Furthermore, the obtained LiNi0.91Co0.06Mn0.03O2 cathode active material powders were characterized. Overall, the material sintered at 780℃ shows superior electrochemical performance by delivering a discharge capacity of 190.76 mAh/g at 1st cycle (0.1 C) and excellent capacity retention of 66.80% even after 50 cycles.
Currently, fossil resources are depleting rapidly. We are looking for energy to replace fossil fuels. They are trying to use electricity to replace internal combustion locomotives. Secondary battery raw materials and chemical additives are pulverized by the high-speed rotation of the grinding disc of the Classifier Separator Mill. Grinding Disc Assembly requires characteristics to withstand abrasion, corrosion, high-speed rotational force and impact. Domestic and foreign grinding discs were analyzed through abrasion resistance, hardness, bending strength, and tensile adhesion strength tests.
To fabricate a full-scale pilot model of the cost-effective Na-(Ni,Fe)Cl2 cell, a Na-beta-alumina solid electrolyte (BASE) was developed by applying a one-step synthesis cum sintering process as an alternative to the conventional solid-state reaction process. Also, Fe metal powder, which is cheaper than Ni, was mixed with Ni metal powder, and was used for cathode material to reduce the cost of raw material. As a result, we then developed a prototype Na-(Ni,Fe)Cl2 cell. Consequently, the Ni content in the Na-(Ni,Fe)Cl2 cell is decreased to approximately (20 to 50) wt.%. The #1 prototype cell (dimensions: 34 mm × 34 mm × 235 mm) showed a cell capacity of 15.9 Ah, and 160.3 mAh g-1 (per the Ni-Fe composite), while the #2 prototype cell (dimensions: 50 mm × 50 mm × 335 mm) showed a cell capacity of 49.4 Ah, and 153.2 mAh g-1 at the 2nd cycle.
The effects of particle size of Li-Si alloy and LiCl-KCl addition as a binder phase for raw material of anode were investigated on the formability of the thermal battery anode. The formability was evaluated with respect to filling density, tap density, compaction density, spring-back and compressive strength. With increasing particle size of Li-Si alloy powder, densities increased while spring-back and compressive strength decreased. Since the small spring-back is beneficial to avoiding breakage of pressed compacts, larger particles might be more suitable for anode forming. The increasing amount of LiCl-KCl binder phase contributed to reducing spring-back, improving the formability of anode powder too. The control of particle size also seems to be helpful to get double pressed pellets, which consisted of two layer of anode and electrolyte.

Lithium intercalated carbon (LIC) are basically employed as an anode for currently commercialized lithium secondary batteries. However, there are still strong interests in modifying carbon surface of active materials of the anode because the amount of irreversible capacity, charge-discharge capacity and high rate capability are largely determined by the surface conditions of the carbon. In this study, the carbonaceous materials were coated with tin oxide and copper by fluidized-bed chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method and their coating effects on electrochemical characteristics were investigated. The electrode which coated with tin oxides gave the higher capacity than that of raw material. Their capacity decreased with the progress of cycling possibly due to severe volume changes. However, the cyclability was improved by coating with copper on the surface of the tin oxides coated carbonaceous materials, which plays an important role as an inactive matrix buffering volume changes. An impedance on passivation film was decreased as tin oxides contents and it resulted in the higher capacity.
The rapid development of communication equipment and information processing technology has led to a constant improvement in cordless communication. Lithium ion batteries used in cellular phones and laptop computers, in particular, have been in the forefront of the above revolution. These batteries use high value added raw materials and have a high and stable energy output and are increasingly coming into common use. The development of the material for the negative terminal has led to an improvement in the quality and efficiency of the batteries, whereas a reduction in the cost of the battery by researching new materials for the positive anode has become a research theme by itself. These long life batteries, it is being increasingly realized, can have value added to them by recycling. Research is increasingly being done on recycling the aluminum case and the load casing for the negative diode. This paper aims to introduce the current situation of recycling of lithium ion batteries. 1. Introduction 2. [ $LiMn_2O_4$ ] powders for lithium ion batteries were synthesized from two separate raw material pairs of LiOH/MnO and $LiOH/MnO_2$. The powders prepared at 780 and $850^{\circ}C$ and their difference of electrochemical properties were investigated. Both powders calcined at 780 and $850^{\circ}C$ were composed of a single-phase spinel structure but those treated at $850^{\circ}C$ showed a lower intensity ratio of $I_{311}$ to $I_{400}$, a slightly larger lattice parameter, and an increased discharge capacity by 10% under $3.0{\sim}4.3V$ voltage range. The XPS study on the oxidation states of manganese repealed that powders made from LiOH/MnO had less $Mn^{3+}$ ion and gave better battery performances than those from $LiOH/MnO_2$.
Globally, as population growth and economic development continue, resource consumption is increasing rapidly. As an alternative to electric vehicles was suggested as the environmental pollution problem emerged, the number of registered electric vehicles in Korea increased by more than 137 times compared to 2013. Secondary batteries are expected to expand into various markets such as small IT devices and electric vehicles, and the most important part of electric vehicles is the battery (secondary battery). Therefore, in this study, to analyze the stability of the CSM (Classifier Separator Mill) grinding disc that crushes secondary battery raw materials, structural analysis and vibration analysis of the 1st to 4th grinding discs and the final model were performed. The change of bending by the weight of the Grinding Disc is at least 0.065㎛ and maximum 0.075㎛, and the change by the standard gravity is judged to be very low. The strain is at least 0.00031㎛/㎛ and maximum 0.00078㎛/㎛, and even if the number of Hamer increases, the change by the weight is judged to be insignificant. When the Grinding Disc rotates at a maximum of 6000rpm, the deformation and deformation rate of the first to third models are similar, but the fourth model (Hamer 10EA) is more than three times and the final model (Hamer 12EA) is about four times. However, the maximum deformation is 28.21㎛, which is considered to be insignificant when the change is 6000rpm. Six modes of natural Frequency analysis of the 1st~4th order and final model of the grinding disc appeared to be bent or twisted.
