A multi-server queueing system with finite buffer is considered. The input flow is the BMAP (Batch Markovian Arrival Process). The service time has the PH (Phase) type distribution. Customers from the BMAP enter the system according to the discipline of partial admission. Besides ordinary (positive) customers, the Markovian flow (MAP) of negative customers arrives to the system. A negative customer can delete an ordinary customer in service if the state of its PH-service process belongs to some given set. In opposite case the ordinary customer is considered to be protected of the effect of negative customers. The stationary distribution and the main performance measures of the considered queueing system are calculated.

Diagnosis of abnormal faults is essential for producing high quality products. The role of real-time diagnosis is quite increasing in the batch processes of producing high value-added products such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and so forth. In this study, we evaluate the effect of variable selection and future-value estimation techniques on the performance of the diagnosis system, which is based on nonlinear classification and measurement data. The diagnostic performance can be improved by selecting only the variables that are important and have high contribution for diagnosis. Thus, the diagnostic performance of several variable selection techniques is compared and evaluated. In addition, missing data of a new batch, called future observations, should be estimated because the full data of a new batch is not available before the end of the cycle. In this work the use of different estimation techniques is analyzed. A case study on the polyvinyl chloride batch process was carried out so that optimal variable selection and estimation methods were obtained: maximum 21.9% and 13.3% improvement by variable selection and maximum 25.8% and 15.2% improvement by estimation methods.
This paper reviews some of the most prominent and promising areas of chemical process control both in relations to batch and continuous processes. These areas include the modeling, optimization, control and monitoring of chemical processes and entire plants. Most of these areas explicitly utilize a model of the process. For this purpose the types of models used are examined in some detail. These types of models are categorized in knowledge-driven and datadriven classes. In the areas of modeling and optimization, attention is paid to batch reactors using the Tendency Modeling approach. These Tendency models consist of data- and knowledge-driven components and are often called Gray or Hybrid models. In the case of continuous processes, emphasis is placed in the closed-loop identification of a state space model and their use in Model Predictive Control nonlinear processes, such as the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking process. The effective monitoring of multivariate process is examined through the use of statistical charts obtained by the use of Principal Component Analysis (PMC). Static and dynamic charts account for the cross and auto-correlation of the substantial number of variables measured on-line. Centralized and de-centralized chart also aim in isolating the source of process disturbances so that they can be eliminated. Even though significant progress has been made during the last decade, the challenges for the next ten years are substantial. Present progress is strongly influenced by the economical benefits industry is deriving from the use of these advanced techniques. Future progress will be further catalyzed from the harmonious collaboration of University and Industrial researchers.

In this article, the removal of surfactant by ozone and BAC was studied. Batch and pilot tests were carried out for these studies. In batch tests, efficiency of ozone oxidation process was evaluated for LAS(Linear Alkylbenzen Sulfonate) and SLS(Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) removal. Under oxidant conditions, the removal of LAS was more effective than that of SLS. The removal of surfactant was more enhanced with increasing pH in oxidant systems. Pilot tests are carried out with BAC single process and ozone oxidation/BAC combined process. The removal of LAS was more effective in ozone oxidation/BAC combined process than BAC single process about 10-20%. In the case of SLS, the efficiency of BAC single process was similar to that of ozone oxidation BAC combined process. According to temperature, the removal efficiency of SLS changed from 70% to 95% and initial concentration of surfactant had no effects on removal efficiency of SLC under applied temperature above $15^{\circ}C$.

A new method for the graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto starch is presented. Graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto starch and the subsequent hydrolysis in sodium hydroxide solution to prepare absorbents is well known. This process has been utilized to produce the commercial product, Super Slurper. In a typical batch process, ~5% starch in water mixture is gelatinized at $95^{\circ}C$ under stirring for 1 hour then cooled to room temperature. The graft polymerization itself is carried out for approximately 2 hours at $25~30^{\circ}C$ on the gelatinized starch by eerie ion initiation. In this study, graft polymerization of acrylonitrile onto starch via a reactive extrusion process which is a continuous, efficient process is described. Initial concentration of starch in water is 35% and the reaction temperatures are between $50~80^{\circ}C$. However, the most significant difference in the reactive extrusion process is the short time in which the graft polymerization takes place. Preliminary results on the properties of graft polymerization products obtained from the reactive extrusion process are compared to those obtained from the batch process as well as the absorbency of the hydrolyzed samples. Absorbent material has also been prepared by sequential grafting and saponification in the extruder followed by a 2 hour heat treatment of the extrudate in an air circulated oven at $100^{\circ}C$.

Controlling the dissolved oxygen (DO) in the fed-batch culture of the medicinal mushroom Ganoderma lucidum led to a 2-fold increase of the maximum biomass productivity compared with uncontrolled DO conditions. By contrast, extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) production was two times higher under oxygen limitation (uncontrolled DO) than under increased oxygen availability (controlled DO). Morphologically, dispersed mycelium was predominant under controlled DO conditions, with highly branched hyphae, consistent with the enhanced culture growth noted under these conditions, whereas in the uncontrolled DO process mycelial clumps were the most common morphology throughout the culture. However, in both cultures, clamp connections were found. This is an exciting new finding, which widens the applicability of this basidiomycete in submerged fermentation. In rheological terms, broths demonstrated shear-thinning behavior with a yield stress under both DO conditions. The flow curves were best described by the Herschel-Bulkley model: flow index down to 0.6 and consistency coefficient up to 0.2 and 0.6 Pa $s^n$ in uncontrolled and controlled cultures DO, respectively. The pseudoplastic behavior was entirely due to the fungal biomass, and not to the presence of EPS (rheological analysis of the filtered broth showed Newtonian behavior). It is clear from this study that dissolved oxygen tension is a critical process parameter that distinctly influences G. lucidum morphology and rheology, affecting the overall performance of the process. This study contributes to an improved understanding of the process physiology of submerged fermentation of G. lucidum.
A batch and a continuous type experiments were conducted to test the conditions for simultaneous phosphorus release and uptake, and denitrification, taking place in one process. The bacteria able to denitrify as well as to remove phosphorus were evaluated for the application to biological nutrient removal(BNR) process. In the batch-type experiment, simultaneous reactions of phosphorus release and uptake, and also denitrification were observed under anoxic condition with high organic and nitrate loading. However the rate and the degree of P release were lower than that occurred under anaerobic condition. BNR processes composed of anaerobic-anoxic-oxic(AXO), anoxic-anaerobic-oxic(XAO) and anoxic-oxic(XO) were operated in continuous condition. The anoxic reactors in each process received nitrate loading. In the AXO process, P release in anaerobic reactor and the luxury uptake in oxic reactor proceeded actively regardless to nitrate loading. However in XAO and XO processes, P release and luxury uptake occurred only with the nitrate loading less than $0.07\;kg{NO_3}^--N$/kgMLSS-d. With higher nitrate load, P release increased and the luxury uptake decreased. Therefore, it appeared that the application of denitrifying phosphorus-removing bacteria (DPB) to BNR process must first resolve the problem with decrease of luxury uptake of phosphorus in oxic reactor.
The biological wastewater treatment plant, which uses microbial community to remove organic matter and nutrients in wastewater, is known as its nonlinear behavior and uncertainty to operate. Therefore, operation of the biological wastewater treatment process much depends on observation and knowledge of operators. The manual inspection of human operators is essential to manage the process properly, however, it is impossible to detect a fault promptly so that the process can be exposed to improper condition not securing safe effluent quality. Among various process faults, equipment malfunction is critical to maintain normal operational state. To detect equipment faults automatically, the dynamic time warping was tested using on-line oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) and dissolved oxygen (DO) profiles in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR), which is a type of wastewater treatment process. After one cycle profiles of ORP and DO were measured and stored, they were warped to the template profiles which were prepared already and the distance result, accumulated distance (D) values were calculated. If the D values were increased significantly, some kinds of faults could be detected and an alarm could be sent to the operator. By this way, it seems to be possible to make an early detecting of process faults.

According to the industrialization the using of polymers is increased by their mechanical or commercial demands. At now, the using of polymers is become bigger and bigger than yet. On the other words, our whole life is covered by the polymers. Due to the extended polymer using, the material cost is higher and higher. Therefore, the people used the polymer foaming process using the gas. The polymer foaming using the pentane or butane gas is prohibited by the government cause of the explosiveness and non-environmental friendly. Therefore, the members of MIT invented the Micro-cellular Polymer Foaming in 1980. The Micro-cellular Polymers has many cells in the polymer matrix. By compare between non-foamed polymers, the Micro-cellular Polymers have low material cost, soundproof and shock less. The purpose of this study is to study the twice foamed polymer by batch process. To know the reaction by step of microcellular foaming process, we measure the density of polymer. And to viewing the cell morphology, we used the scanning electron microscopy(SEM).
A process of organically bound germanium preparation was developed for healthy food using inorganic germanium adapted Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Adaptations of Saccharomyces cerevisiae against inorganic germanium were successively carried out through stepwise increase of GeO$_{2}$ concentration in order to produce high quantities of germanium bound yeast. Productivity of yeast and quantities of germanium in yeast were obtained 70.2 g/l and 9780 ppm, repectively, when adapted yeast and fed batch culture were used. Germanium taken-up yeast is to be organically bound germanium by evidence of no difference of germanium content after dialysis.
