  • In order to investigate duration of session in static GPS method, data from a network of 7 points, with baseline length of from 64 km to 358 km, were processed. The network were observed by Trimble 4000SSE and Trimble 4000SSi with duration of 24 hours. Data extracted from this session were processed as if they were measured in 3, 6, 9 ... 21, and 24 hours session. The results (Baselines, Sloop Closures, Coordinates, and Standard errors of coordinates) of these sessions were compared to 24 hours one. Some conclusions were made, which seem to be useful in selection of duration for the same dimension GPS network for different purposes.

  • The objectives of this paper are to see how the declination is realized in the different positions/lengths of the utterance, to see if the $F_0$ value throughout the utterance changes in a predictable way, and if so, to find out the best quantitative model which fits the declination. The experiment results are as follows. First, the peak value over the utterance can be affected by the position of the peak and length of the utterance. Second, the choice of quantitative models is dependent on the different list lengths. Third, in everyone's speech, there is a baseline (the lowest $F_0$ value a speaker can use), and the $F_0$ will not fall below the baseline. Forth, the peak $F_0$ of the last word in each list shows little variation in pitch value (target $F_0$) while the number of words in the list affects the starting $F_0$ values.

  • H.264, a recently proposed international video coding standard, has adopted context-based adaptive variable length coding (CAVLC) as the entropy coding tool in the baseline profile. By combining an adaptive variable length coding technique with context modeling, we can achieve a high degree of redundancy reduction. However, CAVLC in H.264 has weakness that the correct prediction rate of the variable length coding (VLC) table is low in a complex area, such as the boundary of an object. In this paper, we propose a VLC table prediction scheme considering multiple reference blocks; the same position block of the previous frame and the neighboring blocks of the current frame. The proposed algorithm obtains the new weighting values considering correctness of the VLC table for each reference block. Using this method, we can enhance the prediction rate of the VLC table and reduce the bit-rate.

  • Background: The leg length discrepancy (LLD) have been implicated with degenerative diseases since the early 1970s, which also causes musculoskeletal asymmetry problems. The LLD appears due to factors such as balance ability, response time, and muscle strength between the shorter and longer leg. In this study, the effect of manual therapy to LLD has been studied. Methods: Manual therapy has been applied on shorter leg of 30 patients with LLD. The manual therapy was conducted for 2~3 minutes 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Results: The leg length of shorter leg were measured at initial baseline and after 4 weeks. the average leg length of shorter leg increased from 94.10 cm to 94.33 cm. Conclusion: This paper reports that the manual therapy has positive effects on LLD. It was studied by conducting manual therapy on muscles and joints related to shorter leg. In the future, the muscles and joints of the longer leg should be considered and various age group should be studied to develop the understanding of the effect of manual therapy on LLD.

  • The study has purposed in evaluating experiences for achievable accuracy and precision of time series at 3-D coordinates. It has been estimated from the kinematic medium-range baseline processing of Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) for the potential application of crustal displacement analysis during an earthquake event. To derive the absolute coordinates of local CORS, it is highly recommended to include some of oversea country references, since it should be compromised of an observation network of the medium-range baselines within the length range from tens of kilometers to about 1,000 kilometers. A data processing procedure has reflected the dynamics of target stations as the parameter estimation stages, which have been applied to a series of experimental analysis in this research at the end. From the analysis of results, we could be concluded in that the subcentimeters-level of positioning accuracy and precision can be achievable. Furthermore, the paper summarizes impacts of satellite ephemeris, data lengths and levels of initial coordinate constraint into the positioning performance.

  • This study verified the limitations of commercial GPS data processing software and the applicability on precise positioning through comparing the processing results between Bernese and TGO under various conditions. To achieve the goal, we selected three nationwide station data and two smaller local data to constitute networks. By using Bernese and TGO, those networks are processed through the baseline analysis and the network adjustment. The comparative analysis was carried out, in terms of software, baseline length and network scale, observation duration, and number of fixed points. In the comparison between softwares, the scientific software was excellent in accuracy. It was confirmed that, as GPS-related technology is developed, the performance of the receiver was enhanced. And, in parallel with this, even the functionalities of the commercial software were tremendously enhanced. The difference, however, in result between the scientific and commercial software are still exist even if it is not big. Therefore, this study confirms that the scientific software should be used when the most precise position is necessary to be computed, especially if baseline vectors are big.

  • For real-time precise positioning, N-RTK (Network Real-Time Kinematic) technology is widely used these days. However, the currently operating N-RTK system has a limitation in terms of the number of users. Therefore, if reference points generate correction messages with no limit on the number of users are developed later, it is determined that an appropriate reference point installation interval is required, so that the accuracy of the N-RTK system according to the baseline distance was analyzed. This experiment utilized receivers with varying performance that estimated the rover position, and RTKLIB, an open-source software, is used for processing data. As a result, the rover position was estimated accurately with a high rate of fixed ambiguity for all the receivers. When the reference station with a baseline length of 40 km was used, the vertical RMSE (Root Mean Squared Error) was quite similar to the short baseline case, but only half of the ambiguity fixing rate was achieved. The outlier in the estimated rover position was not observed for the longer baselines in the case of a high-end receiver. It is necessary to analyze the ambiguity fixing and the accuracy of the kinematic positioning with scientific GNSS processing software.

  • The main advantage of the statistical parametric speech synthesis is its flexibility in changing voice characteristics. A personalized text-to-speech(TTS) system can be implemented by combining a speech synthesis system and a voice transformation system, and it is widely used in many application areas. It is known that the fundamental frequency and the spectral envelope of speech signal can be independently modified to convert the voice characteristics. Also it is important to maintain naturalness of the transformed speech. In this paper, a speech synthesis system based on Hidden Markov Model(HMM-based speech synthesis, HTS) using the STRAIGHT vocoder is constructed and voice transformation is conducted by modifying the fundamental frequency and spectral envelope. The fundamental frequency is transformed in a scaling method, and the spectral envelope is transformed through frequency warping method to control the speaker's vocal tract length. In particular, this study proposes a voice transformation method using the correlation between fundamental frequency and vocal tract length. Subjective evaluations were conducted to assess preference and mean opinion scores(MOS) for naturalness of synthetic speech. Experimental results showed that the proposed voice transformation method achieved higher preference than baseline systems while maintaining the naturalness of the speech quality.

  • Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common chronic respiratory disease with increased prevalence in the elderly. Telomeres are repetitive DNA sequences found at the end of the chromosome, which progressively shorten as cells divide. Telomere length is known to be a molecular marker of aging. This study aimed to assess the relationship between telomere length and the risk of COPD, lung function, respiratory symptoms, and emphysema index in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease in Dusty Areas (CODA) cohort. Methods: We extracted DNA from the peripheral blood samples of 446 participants, including 285 COPD patients and 161 control participants. We measured absolute telomere length using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. All participants underwent spirometry and quantitative computed tomography scan. Questionnaires assessing respiratory symptoms and the COPD Assessment Test was filled by all the participants. Results: The mean age of participants at the baseline visit was 72.5±7.1 years. Males accounted for 72% (321 participants) of the all participants. The mean telomere length was lower in the COPD group compared to the non-COPD group (COPD, 16.81±13.90 kb; non-COPD, 21.97±14.43 kb). In COPD patients, 112 (75.7%) were distributed as tertile 1 (shortest), 91 (61.1%) as tertile 2 and 82 (55%) as tertile 3 (longest). We did not find significant associations between telomere length and lung function, exacerbation, airway wall thickness, and emphysema index after adjusting for sex, age, and smoking status. Conclusion: In this study, the relationship between various COPD phenotypes and telomere length was analyzed, but no significant statistical associations were shown.
