Influence on properties of base metal after elimination of lifting-lug member in a dissimilar welding between steel base and steel lifting lug

  • The increasing demands of lifting lugs can be attributed to the rapid advancement of shipbuilding and offshore-structure production technologies and an exponential increase in the size of the block units of ship structures. Therefore, to ensure safety during the transportation and turnover of large blocks, it is important to determine the structural integrity and position of lifting lugs. However, because the manufacturing cost and availability of lugs are important considerations, low cost and easily obtainable steel compositions of grades different from those of the blocks are often used as alternatives. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of a lifting-lug metal on the physical properties of a base metal in a dissimilar welding between the base metal and lifting lug. The effect was evaluated by observing the metal microstructures and determining the hardness and dilution values on the cross-sectional surface of the lifting lug. According to the results of the metal microstructures, impact, hardness, and emission spectrochemical analysis at the surface from where the lug was removed confirmed that the chemical composition of the lifting-lug metal did not influence the physical properties of the base metal.

  • 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde와 2-aminopyridine으로부터 $N_2O$형의 세자리 Schiff Base 리간드인 (2-hydroxy-1-naphthyllidine)-o-iminopyridine [NOIPH]리간드와 Cobalt(II), Nickel(II) 및 Copper(II) Acetate들과 반응시켜 Schiff Base 전이금속(II) 착물들을 합성하였다. 이 리간드와 전이금속(II)착물들의 구조를 원소분석, IR, UV-vis, NMR 분광법 및 TGA 방법으로 확인하였다. 중심 금속인 전이금속(II) 이온은 $N_2O$형의 주개원자를 갖는 세자리 리간드의 페놀기에 있는 산소와는 이온결합을, 아로매틱 아민의 질소와는 배위결합을 형성하여 비이온성의 착물을 형성하였다. 착물에서 리간드들은 전이금속(II) 이온과 2:I의 몰비로 결합하며 4배위 구조임을 알았다.

일방향응고 Ni기초내열합금 GTD-111의 천이액상확산접합(I) (Transient Liquid Phase Bonding of Directionally Solidified Ni Base Superalloy, GTD-111(I) - Bonding Phenomena and Mechanism -)

  • The bonding phenomenon and mechanism in the transient liquid phase bonding(TLP Bonding) of directionally solidified Ni base superalloy, GTD-111 was investigated. At the bonding temperature of 1403K, liquid insert metal was eliminated by isothermal solidification which was controlled by the diffusion of B and Si into the base metal and solids in the bonded interlayer grew epitaxially from mating base metal inward the insert metal. The number of grain boundaries formed at the bonded interlayer was corresponded with those of base metal. The liquation of grain boundary and dendrite boundary occurred at 1433K. At the bonding temperature of 1453K which is higher than liquation temperature of grain boundary, liquids of the Insert metal were connected with liquated grain boundaries and compositions in each region mixed mutually. In Joints held for various time at 1453t phases formed at liquated grain boundary far from the interface were similar to those of bonded interlayer. With prolonged holding time, liquid phases decreased gradually and liquids of continuous band shape divided many island shape. But liquid phases did not disappeared after holding for 7.2ks at 1453k. Isothermal solidification process at the bonding temperature which is higher than the liquation temperature of the grain boundary was controlled by diffusion of Ti to be result in liquation than B or Si. in insert metal. 강 봉(SM45C) 맞대기 용접부의 피로수명 평가 (Estimation of Fatigue Life in Butt-Welded Zone of SM45C Steel Rod)

  • SM45C steel rods being used generally for power transmission shafts and machine components was selected and welded by Butt-GMAW(Gas Metal Arc Welding) method. An estimation of fatigue life was studied by constructing S-N curve. Fatigue strength of base metal zone showed higher values than one of weld zone in low cycles between $10^4$ and $10^6$cycles. However, significant decrease in fatigue strength of base metal was found around $10^6$cycles, which were almost same as one of heat affected zone. This decrease was attributed that initial residual stress of the steel rods distributed by drawing process was diminished by continually applied load, and resulted in softening of base metal. The fatigue limit of the weld zone was highest in the boundary between deposited metal zone and heat affected zone, and followed by in the order of deposited metal zone, base metal zone, and heat affected zone. Based on these results, it is revealed that the stress for safety design of machine components using SM45C butt-welded steel rods must be selected within the region of the lowest fatigue limit of heat affected zone.

수중 용접봉으로 용접한 누수배관 용접부위의 부식 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Corrosion Characteristics on Welding Zone of Leakage SeawaterPipe Welded by Underwater Welding Electrode)

  • Leakage trouble on the sea water pipeline in engine room is often resulted from a localized corrosion due to severe corrosive environment caused by both high speed and high pressure of sea water flowing through the inner pipe. In addition, when the ship is in stand-by or emergency condition, underwater welding to control the leakage of sea water from a hole of its pipe is very important in an industrial safety point of view. In this study possibility of underwater welding to control leakage of sea water and corrosion property of its welding zone were investigated with the electrochemical methods by parameters of welding methods and welding electrodes when underwater welding is achieved with a such case that sea water is being leaked out with a height at 50mm from a hole of $2.5mm{\emptyset}$ of test pipe. Corrosion resistance of weld metal zone is better than the base metal and its hardness is higher than that of the base metal. However corrosion potential of weld metal zone showed a negative value than that of the base metal, therefore weld metal zone is preferentially corroded rather than the base metal by performance of galvanic cell due to difference of corrosion potential between weld metal zone and base metal. Eventually it is suggested that leakage of sea water is successfully controlled by underwater welding,

  • API 5L X65 배관의 모재 기리 및 원주방향, 심용착금속, 원주용착금속에 대한 고주기피로시험 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. (1) 모재 길이방향이 원주방향보다 항복강도 및 항복비가 높게 나타난 압연 방향에 따라 피로특성이 다르게 나타났고, 항복비가 작아질수록 피로강도가 작아졌다. (2) 모재의 피로강도는 항복강도보다 높게 나타났지만 용착금속의 피로강도는 낮게 나타났다. (3) 용착금속은 모재보다 항복강도 및 인장강도가 상당히 높았지만 피로강도는 오히려 작게 나타났다.

탄소강 용접접합부의 모재블록전단내력에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Block Shear Strength of Carbon Steel Fillet Welded Connection with Base Metal Fracture)

  • An experimental study on the ultimate behaviors of the mild carbon steel (SPHC) fillet-welded connection is presented in this paper. Seven specimens were fabricated by the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). All specimens failed by typical block shear fracture in the base metal of welded connections not weld metal. Block shear fracture observed in the base metal of welded connection is a combination of single tensile fracture transverse to the loading direction and two shear fractures longitudinal to the loading direction. Test strengths were compared with strength predictions by the current design equations and suggested equations by previous researchers. It is known that current design specifications (AISC2010 and KBC2016) and Oosterhof & Driver's equation underestimated overly the ultimate strength of the welded connection by on average 44%, 31%, respectively and prediction by Topkaya's equation was the closest to the test results. Consequently, modified equation is required to be proposed considering the stress triaxiality effect and material property difference on the block shear strength for base metal fracture in welded connections fabricated with mild carbon steel.

2상 스테인리스강과 크롬동합금의 브레이징부 생성상의 생성기구에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Formation Mechanism of Microconstituents in Brazed Joint of Duplex Stainless Steel and Cr-Cu Alloy)

  • The formation mechanism of microconstituents in brazed joints of duplex stainless steel and Cr-Cu alloy which is an essential process of rocket engine manufacturing was investigated using Cu base insert metal. $SUS329J_3L$ and C18200 were used for base metal and AMS 4764 was used for insert metal. The brazing was carried out under various conditions. There were various phases in the joints, because of reaction between liquid insert metal and base metals. Since liquid insert metal reacts with duplex stainless steel, liquid Cu from insert metal infiltrated into the $\alpha/\beta$ interface of duplex stainless steel. Through the process of Cu infiltration, isolated stainless steel pieces come into the liquid insert metal. Since liquid insert metal reacts with Cr-Cu alloy. Cr precipitates from C18200 come into the liquid insert metal. With increment of bonding temperature and holding time, amounts and sizes of phases increased. but Cr-Mn compounds decreased at 1303k for 1.2ks and Mn-rich phases disappeared Fe-Cr compounds formed.

구리-알루미늄 이종재료의 브레이징 특성 향상에 관한 연구 (Study on the Improvement of Brazeability for Copper-Aluminum Dissimilar Materials Joint)

  • One of the most important considerations to braze Cu-Al dissimilar materials is control of brittle metallic compound which makes it difficult to obtain a sound brazed joint. Nowdays, several attempts were made to control the metallic compound. But effective method for controlling metallic compound was not established. In this point of view, commercially pure aluminum and copper were used as base metal and Al-Si-X and Zn-Al-X alloy systems were developed as filler metal. Brazing was carried out to find optimum conditions for Cu-Al dissimilar joint. The results obtained in this study were summarized as follows: 1) The joint brazed by Al-Si-X filler metal showed good brazeability and mechanical properties. The tensile strength of the joint brazed over solidus temperature was more than 90% of Al base metal. Especially, the joint brazed at liquidus temperature was fractured in the Al base metal. 2) Fluorides fluxes(a mixture of potassium fluoro-aluminates) were used to improve surface cleanliness of base metal and wettability of Al-Si-X filler metal. It was melted at the temperature about 1$0^{\circ}C$ lower than that of the filler metal, and made appropriate brazing environment. Therefore, it could be a proper selection as flux.

타이타늄합금의 전자빔용접성 (Electron beam weldability of titanium alloy)

  • Electron beam weldability was investigated for 1mm thick cold rolled sheets of commercially pure grade titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Accelerating voltage of 40kV, beam current of 6mA, and weld speed of 0.8m/min was used and focal position of focused electron beam was just on the surface of workpiece. Microstructure of weld metal, the heat affected zone and base metal was observed using optical microscope. Vickers hardness was measured across the welds and the transverse tensile test was carried out. Hydroformability test was also carried out for the butt welded coupons of commercially pure grade titanium. For the electron beam welded C P Ti, the average grain size was equiaxed $\alpha(15{\sim}25{\mu}m)$ for base metal, coarse equiaxed $\alpha(80{\sim}200{\mu}m)$ for weld metal and annealed and enlarged grain($40{\sim}120{\mu}m$) for the HAZ. The vickers hardness of C P Ti was $180{\sim}200Hv$ for base metal, and $160{\sim}180Hv$ for the weld metal and the HAZ. For the electron beam welded Ti-6Al-4V alloy, the vickers hardness was 360Hv for the base metal, abd $400{\sim}425Hv$ for the weld metal and the HAZ. All the failure occurred at the base metal, when the transverse weld tensile test was carried out for both electron beam welded C P Ti and Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The formability of electron beam welded C P Ti was decreased compared with that of C P Ti base alloy.
