  • This study is to analyse the characteristics of bar migration, which is important roles to bank erosion and meandering development, for the meandering channels with erodible bed by using a 2-D numerical model in the generalized coordinate systems. The results of the numerical experiments showed that the features of bar migration were affected by the meandering wavelength to the width ratio, and had a relatively good agreement with the criterion for bar migration through a bend suggested by Kinoshita and Miwa (1974). The bar migrated with speed in the channel with long wavelength and broad width, and the criterion for bar migration was increased. The bar celerity was decreased abruptly near the criterion.

  • This study investigated the effects of a spur dike on the development processes, the migration, and the wave length of alternate bars with laboratory experiments. The bar wave length was shown to be shorter as the spur dikes got longer. The forcing effects of a long spur dike on the behavior of alternate bars were stronger than those of a shorter one. However, the bar height was not affected by the variation of the length of a spur dike. The bar migration speed was in inverse proportion to the bar wave length.

  • This study analyzes the impact on geomorphic changes downstream due to alternate bars developed weir upstream through laboratory experiments. The disturbance, such as a spur in the side wall, of the flow at the inlet of the channel triggers the development of alternate bar upstream at the beginning of the experiment, and gradually moved downstream with keeping their shapes over time. The bed in the downstream of weir in the mid of channel scoured due to the scarcity of sediment inflow because weir upstream traps it. Moreover, bar migration speed decreases as the bars approaches to the weir with time. However, as time increases, the alternate bars upstream migrate over the weir, and sediment in the eroded bed of the weir downstream are deposited. The phase of the bar upstream changes oppositely after passing through the weir. The phase of the bar downstream changes rapidly as the shape of alternate bar is clear upstream, which is affected by the strong disturbance. The phase of bar changes, and the bar migration speed decreases gradually with time, and finally stopped due to forcing effects on the bar by the disturbance. The faster the reaction of alternate bar with a long spur, the larger the bar height formed downstream and the shorter the bar length. This means that the larger the forcing effect of bar, the more it affects the bar migration. In addition, although the size of the alternate bar increases over time, the bar doesn't migrate downstream and a forced bar is generated.

  • This study examines the processes and the behaviour characteristics of forcing bars in channels with periodic variable width in the alternate and braided regimes by using a two dimensional numerical model. The wavelength and the migration speed decrease as the amplitude of variable width increases. The forcing effects of the width variation on the alternate bars is stronger than those on the braided bars. The bar migration speed increases as the dimensionless amplitude in the braided regime is 0.25. However, the migration speed is abruptly decreased as the amplitude in it was larger than 0.25. The bar migration speed increases in the alternates bar regime as the dimensionless wavelength increases. However, the migration speed decreases around 1 of the wavelength. As the bar wavelength and the variable width wavelength coincide, the bars don't migrate downstream by the strong forcing effects on the bars due to the suppression by the width variation.

  • The fluvial sequence developed along the channel margin of meander bends in the midstream of the Yeongsan River consists of channel deposits at the bottom and overbank deposits at the top, and shows a fining-upward trend. The fluvial deposits consist of 7 sedimentary facies, and facies association forms 7 architectural elements. The channel deposits formed as channel bar or point bar. The channel bar deposits consisted of architectural element of gravel bedform were formed by channel lag deposits within the channel; whereas, the channel bar deposits consisted of architectural elements of downcurrent-dipping inclined strata sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and horizontally stratified sets were formed by downstream migration of sand wave or downstream transport of sand by traction current in the upper flow regime conditions within the channel. The point bar deposits consist of architectural elements of down current-dipping inclined strata sets, horizontally stratified sets, cross-stratified and horizontally stratified sets, and laterally inclined and horizontally stratified sets. These architectural elements are thought to have been formed by the combined effects of the migration of sand dunes and the formation of horizontal lamination in the upper flow regime plane bed conditions. The overbank deposits consist of the architectural elements of overbank fine and sand sheet and lens. The overbank fines were formed by settling of mud from slackwater during flooding over floodplain whereas the sand sheet and lens were formed by traction of sands introduced episodically fiom channel to the overbank during flooding.

  • The study of compatible liner with ADP-505 propellant based PCP was performed. HTPB/DDl was chosen as a binder of liner in order to prohibit migration of nitroester plasticizer from propellant. The possible formulations for liner were screened by peel test of EPDM insulation/liner, propellant/liner and insulation/liner/propellant. Also, the adhesion tests including tension and shear were conducted. The adhesion of liner and propellant fumed out to be very good. The peel value was shown 1.5∼1.8 daN/cm, tensile force was 5.5∼6.0bar and shear force was 4.2∼5.0bar. In the samples of insulation/liner/propellant, they also have shown good adhesion properties. The peel, tensile and shear strength were 1.8 daN/cm, 5.0∼6.0bar and 4.5∼5.0bar, respectively.

  • From Jan. 1983 to Dec. 1985, seven cases of pectus excavatum, six were male and one female, were underwent an operation at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Kyungpook National University Hospital. The ages of patients ranged from 6 to 27 years. They all had symptoms of feeling inferiority about chest deformity. The concavity on the funnel chest varied in its extent, and the severity, which was measured by water volume filled into it, varied from 59.5cc/m2 to 129.9cc/m2. All but one patients were approached through a bilateral transverse submammary incision and one approached through a vertical midline incision. Successful surgical correction required resection of all deformed costal cartilages with transverse anterior osteotomy and internal fixation using retrosternal metal bar. No serious complication have followed the use of this technique, but minor complications such as serous accumulation, pneumothorax and strut migration have been experienced. All patients were satisfactory about the surgical results.

  • The grain growth characteristics of dual-phase (${\alpha}+{\gamma}$) containing high Cr-steel have investigate using ${\alpha}$-, ${\gamma}$-single phases and (${\alpha}+{\gamma}$)dual-phase of 12%Cr Steel. The heat treatment has performed at $1000-1200^{\circ}C$ for 1-100hr. The results are as follows : 1) The grain growth rate in (${\alpha}+{\gamma}$) dual phase was substantially slower than that of single grain. 2) The relation between mean grain radius $\bar{{\gamma}}$ and annealing time t is, in general, described as following equation : $$(\bar{{\gamma}})^n-(\bar{{\gamma}_o})^n=K_n{\cdot}t{\cdots}{\cdots}(1)$$ i) In the case of single phase of high Cr steel, Eq.(1) is described as $(\bar{{\gamma}})^2-(\bar{{\gamma}_o})^2=K_2{\cdot}t$ and the grain growth is controlled by boundary migration. ii) In dual phase, the grain growth needs diffusion of alloying elements because the chemical composition of ${\alpha}$- and ${\gamma}$- phases differs from each other. When the volume fraction of ${\alpha}$-, ${\gamma}$-phase was almost equal and ${\gamma}$-phase in the case of 80 and $90%{\gamma}$. Eq.(1) is described as $(\bar{{\gamma}})^3-(\bar{{\gamma}_o})^3=K_3{\cdot}t$ because the grain growth is controlled by volume diffusion iii) In the case of ${\gamma}$-rich phase (80 and $90%{\gamma}$), the grain growth of minor phase (10 and $20%{\alpha}$) is described as $(\bar{{\gamma}})^4-(\bar{{\gamma}_o})^4=K_4{\cdot}t$ because the boundary diffusion is predominent rather than volume diffusion.

  • In this study, the flow characteristics and bed changes in the upstream and downstream of weirs with the variation of the weir angels are investigated quantitatively through the laboratory experiments. As the angle of weir increases, the effective weir length decreases. Delta is developed by the sediments inflow upstream and migrates downstream. Delta migration speed decreases as it approaches to the weir upstream, and the size is getting big. As the dimensionless weir length increases, the dimensionless wave length decreases at the downstream of the weir. However, the dimensionless bar height decreases. The dimensionless wavelength increases with the bar height downstream from the weir.

  • The thermal stability of duplex high Mn-steel structure have been investigated using 15%Mn~1.0~2.4%C steels which are composed of ${\gamma}$-and ${\theta}$-phases in the range of temperature from 900 to $1100^{\circ}C$, and time from 50 to 300h. The results are as follows ; 1) The grain growth in single-phase region proceeds by grain boundary migration and the relation between mean radius $\bar{r}$ and annealing time t is described as follows ; $\bar{r}^2-{\bar{r}_0}^2=k_0{\cdot}t$ 2) The grain growth of duplex, (${\gamma}+{\theta}$), strucrure is slower than that single phase because the chemical composition of ${\gamma}$-and ${\theta}$-phases differs esch others. 3) The grain of (${\gamma}+{\theta}$) duplex structure grow slowly in a mode of Ostwald ripening. Because grain boundaries of ${\gamma}$-phase migrate under a restriction of pinning by ${\theta}$-phases. 4) In the duplex structures. the dispersed structures change to the dual-structures, as the volume fraction of the dispersed second-phase increase. Consequently, the growth-law, which is controlled by boundary-diffusion change to that of the volume diffusion-mechanism.
