  • This study was developed image processing algorithm for recognition of few teats of a cow in the image using black and white camera attached with infrared filter. Spectroscopic analysis was used for selection of a NIR filter to separate teats from udder skin in the image captured. To verify the performance of image processing algorithm was developed and NIR filter was selected, carried out an experiment with cows. NIR band-pass filter was used to pass the 975nm band of light spectrum. The image processing algorithm was developed could recognize all teats and the process time was 0.9 second to recognize the all teats and to acquire end position of teats.

  • classification of the satellite images provides information about land cover and/or land use. Quality of the classification result depends mainly on the spatial and spectral resolutions of the images. In this study, image fusion in terms of resolution merging, and band integration with multi-source of the satellite images; Landsat ETM+ and Ikonos were carried out to improve classification. Resolution merging and band integration could generate imagery of high resolution with more spectral bands. Precise image co-registration is required to remove geometric distortion between different sources of images. Combination of unsupervised and supervised classification of the fused imagery was implemented to improve classification. 3D display of the results was possible by combining DEM with the classification result so that interpretability could be improved.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a band stop filter (BSF) for pre-processing of image sequences before encoding. By pixel-wise temporal filtering of the image sequences using the BSF, the bandwidth and noise of the signal are reduced, while preserving the image quality in view of human visual perceptions. As a result, when compared to the original image sequences, te pre-filtered image sequence requires lower bit-rates for encoding, while there is not much degradation in quality. Also, it has been shown that the proposed BSF causes less smearing and blurring than the conventional recursive low pass filter for bandwidth and noise reductions.

  • Future land remote sensing satellite systems will kikely be constrained in terms of communication band-width. To alleviate this limitation, the data must be compressed. Image data obtained from satellite exhibit a high degree of spatial and spectral correlations that must be properly exploited. In this paper we propose multispectral image data compression using wavelet transform and selective predicted vector quantization. Th eproposed method is based on accuratly predicting other band from reference band and reducing bit rate through threshold map. we can achieve better compression effeciency than conventional methods.

  • In the present article, wave imaging mechanisms were investigated using airborne Pi-SAR (Polarimetric-Interferometric SAR) X-band VV images of ocean waves around the Miyake Island at approximately 180 km south from Tokyo, Japan. Two images of a same scene were produced at approximately 20 min. interval from two directions at right angles. One image shows dominant range travelling waves, but the other image shows a different wave pattern. This difference can be caused by the different image modulations of RCS and velocity bunching. In this study, 18 subimages are extracted, and the directional wave spectra are compared to each other of the two different areas.

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm classifing same hues in order toe estimate the spectral reflectance of object from 3 band color image information. To estimate the spectral reflectance of object, the conventional estimation methods are required of 5 or 9 band digital color values. The 5 or 9 band image acquisition systems are required of 5 or 3 times same work for color image acquisition process. To solve the above problems, we propose a new method that can be estimated spectra reflectance estimation of object. The proposed method is to classify same hues corresponding a color stimulus, by using hue angle and chroma vector of a color stimulus. The classified same hues are used as the population corresponding a color stimulus. The range of same hue is estimated by the cumulative proportional ration according to the number of basis function.

  • We retrieved the aerosol optical thickness $\tau$$_{a}$ over land from Landsat-7/ETM+ image data using the correlation between the visible reflectance and middle IR reflectance. This band correlation method for aerosol retrieval was originally proposed fur MODIS data analysis by Kaufman et al.(1977). The results of retrieved aerosol optical thickness $\tau$$_{a}$ from Landsat-7/ETM+ data were compared with the simultaneous sky observation data at our study site. We found a good agreement between the retrieved and observed values. We presented the distribution maps of the aerosol optical thickness over land, retrieved from Landsat-7/ETM+ image data. Then, the surface reflectance map was also presented. The aerosol optical thickness over sea was retrieved assuming no reflected contribution from sea in the near IR band. In addition, we discussed some limitations when we apply the band correlation method.

  • In this research, how the evaluation of the spacial image influenced by the environmental friendly elements included in the visual information, and how the selection of the sound changed depending on the characteristics of spatial image by the 40 subjects were carried out. Vast tracts of green land and the waterfront were highly preferred and impressive than the other spaces. The green music, signal with water sound and bird chirping sound were highly scored. In the frequency characteristics of the factors, the first factor was artificial sound(high at the low frequency band), the second was natural sound(uniform at all frequency band) and the third was water sound(high at the middle and high frequency band over 500Hz). This shows that the proposal of the sound which has the frequency characteristics fit to the spacial image should be selected for the soundscape of the target space.

  • The advantage of the lidar data is in fast acquisition and process time as well as in high accuracy and high point density. However lidar data itself is difficult to classify the earth surface because lidar data is in the form of irregularly distributed point clouds. In this study, we investigated land cover classification using both lidar data and optical image through a supervised classification method. Firstly, we generated 1m grid DSM and DEM image and then nDSM was produced by using DSM and DEM. In addition, we had made intensity image using the intensity value of lidar data. As for optical images, the red, blue, green band of CCD image are used. Moreover, a NDVI image using a red band of the CCD image and infrared band of IKONOS image is generated. The experimental results showed that land cover classification with lidar data and optical image together could reach to the accuracy of 74.0%. To improve classification accuracy, we further performed re-classification of shadow area and water body as well as forest and building area. The final classification accuracy was 81.8%.

  • The conventional water quality measurements by point sampling provide only site specific temporal water quality information but not the synoptic geographic coverage of water quality distribution. To circumvent these limitations in temporal and spatial measurements, the use of remote sensing is increasingly involved in the water quality monitoring research. In other to assess a trophic state of Yongdam reservoir using satellite imagery data, I obtained Landsat ETM data and water quality data on 16th September and 18th October 2001. The approach involved acquisition of water quality samples from boats at 33 sites on 16th September and 30 sites on 18th October 2001, simultaneous with Landsat-7 satellite overpass. The correlation coefficients between the DN values of the imagery and the concentrations of chlorophyll-a were analyzed. The visible bands(band 1,2,3) and near infrared band(band 4) data of September image showed the correlation coefficient values higher than 0.9. The October image showed the correlation coefficient values about 0.7 due to the atmospheric effect and low variation of chlorophyll-a concentration. Regression models between the chrophyll-a concentration and DN values of the Landsat imagery data have been developed for each image. The regression model was determined based on the spectral characteristics of chlorophyll, so the green band(band 2) and near infrared band(band 4) were selected to generate a trophic state map. The coefficient of determination(R2) of the regression model for 16th September was 0.95 and that of the regression model for 18th October was 0.55. According to the trophic state map made based on Aizaki's TSI and chlorophyll-a concentration, the trophic state of Yongdam reservoir was mostly eutrophic state during this study.
