Two-dimensional (2D) correlation method, which generates the synchronous and the asynchronous 2D spectrum by complex cross correlation of the Fourier transformed spectra, is an analysis method for the changes of the sample spectrum induced by vari ous perturbations. In the present work, the 2D electronic correlation spectra have been simulated for the cases where the sample spectrum composed of two gaussian bands changes linearly. When only the band amplitudes of the sample spectrum change, the synchronous spectrum shows strong peaks at the band centers of the sample spectrum, but the asynchronous spectrum does not make peaks. When the sample spectrum shifts without changing intensity and width, the synchronous spectrum shows peaks around the initial and final positions of the band maximum and the asynchronous spectrum shows long peaks spanning the shifting range. The band width change produces the complex 2D correlation spectra. When the sample spectrum shifts with band broadening, the width change by 50% of full width at half maximum (FWHM) does not give so large an effect on the correlation spectrum as the spectral shift by one half of FWHM of the sample spectrum.
Noise band removal is a crucial step before spectral matching since the noise bands can distort the typical shape of spectral reflectance, leading to degradation on the matching results. This paper proposes a statistical noise band removal method for hyperspectral data using the correlation coefficient between two bands. The correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two random variables. Considering each band of the hyperspectral data as a random variable, the correlation between two signal bands is high; existence of a noisy band will produce a low correlation due to ill-correlativeness and undirected ness. The unsupervised k-nearest neighbor clustering method is implemented in accordance with three well-accepted spectral matching measures, namely ED, SAM and SID in order to evaluate the validation of the proposed method. This paper also proposes a hierarchical scheme of combining those measures. Finally, a separability assessment based on the between-class and the within-class scatter matrices is followed to evaluate the applicability of the proposed noise band removal method. Also, the paper brings out a comparison for spectral matching measures. The experimental results conducted on a 228-band hyperspectral data show that while the SAM measure is rather resistant, the performance of SID measure is more sensitive to noise.

This study is for analyzing best band in image matching using correlation coefficient of left and right images of stereo image pair, lot red, green, blue band images separated from color aerial photo and gray image converted from the same color aerial photo image. The image matching is applied to construct Digital Elevation Model(DEM) or terrain data. The correlation coefficients and variation by change of pixel patch size are computed from pixel patches of which sizes are $11{\times}11{\sim}101{\times}101$. Consequently, the correlation coefficient in red band image is highest. The lowest is in blue band. Therefore, to construct terrain data using image matching, the red band image is preferable. As the size of pixel patch is growing, the correlation coefficient is increasing. But increasing rate declines from $51{\times}51$ image patch size and above. It is proved that the smaller pixel patch size than $51{\times}51$ is applied to construct terrain data using image matching.
This study attempted to examine a speaker identification method using difference sum and correlation coefficient determined from a pair of intensity level matrices of band-pass-filtered numeric sounds produced by ten female speakers of similar age and height. Subjects recorded three digit numbers at a quiet room at a sampling rate of 22 kHz on a personal computer. Collected data were band-pass-filtered at five different band ranges. Then, matrices of five intensity levels at 100 proportional time points were obtained. Pearson correlation coefficients and the sum of absolute intensity differences between a pair of given matrices were determined within and across the speakers. Results showed that very high correlation coefficient and small difference sum generally occurred within each speaker but some individual variation was also observed. Thus, the matrix pair with a higher coefficient and a smaller difference sum was averaged to form each individual's model. Comparison among the speakers yielded generally low coefficients and large differences, which suggests successful speaker identification, but among them there were a few cases with very high coefficients and small differences. Future studies will focus on finer band ranges and additional spectral parameters at some peak points of the intensity contour at a low frequency band.

The para-unitary (PU) M band filter bank, which can beused for M band decomposition, has many useful properties. In this ppaer, attempts have been made to design and and analyze the linear phase para-unitary (LPPU) M band filter bank, which is appropriate to the image coding application. First, we derive a unified coding gain in terms of the correlation in the band, as well as the energy compaction. And M band filter bank has been designed, maximizing the new coding gain. Then, we analyze the image coding performance of the LPPU M band filter bank, such as the energy compaction, the correlation in the band and the entropy. From the analysis, it is shown that the coding gain for LPPU M band filter bank improves, and the coding gain for the LPPU 4 band filter bank approaches very closely to that for LPPU 8 band filter bank, as the length of the filter increases. This fact is also verified by the coding results on the real images.
The accuracy of classifying pixels in HIRIS images is usually degraded by noisy bands since noisy bands may deform the typical shape of spectral reflectance. Proposed in this paper is a statistical method for noisy band removal which mainly makes use of the correlation coefficients between bands. Considering each band as a random variable, the correlation coefficient measures the strength and direction of a linear relationship between two random variables. While the correlation between two signal bands is high, existence of a noisy band will produce a low correlation due to ill-correlativeness and undirectedness. The application of the correlation coefficient as a measure for detecting noisy bands is under a two-pass screening scheme. This method is independent of the prior knowledge of the sensor or the cause resulted in the noise. The classification in this experiment uses the unsupervised k-nearest neighbor algorithm in accordance with the well-accepted Euclidean distance measure and the spectral angle mapper measure. This paper also proposes a hierarchical combination of these measures for spectral matching. Finally, a separability assessment based on the between-class and within-class scatter matrices is followed to evaluate the performance.

The objective of this study is to verify the positional accuracy by performing the orthometric corrections on the high resolution satellite images and to analyze the band correlation between the high resolution images corrected with orthometric correction. The objectives also included an analysis on the correlation of NDVI. For the orthometric correction of images from KOMPSAT2 and IKONOS, systematic errors were removed in use of RPC data, and non-planar distortions were corrected with GPS surveying data. Also, by preempting the image points at the same positions within ortho images, a comparison was performed on positional accuracies between image points of each image and GPS surveying points. The comparison was also made on the positional accuracies of image points. between the images. For correlation of band and correlation of NDVI, the descriptive statistics of DN values were acquired for respective bands by adding the Quickbird images and Aerial Photographs undergone through orthometric correction at the time of purchase. As result, from a comparison on positional accuracies of Orthoimages from KOMPSAT2 and Ortho Images of IKONOS was made. From the comparison the distance between the image points within each image and GPS surveying points was identified as 3.41m for KOMPSAT2 and as 1.45m for IKONOS, presenting a difference of 1.96m. Whereas, RMSE between image points was identified as 1.88m. The level of correlation was measured by using Quickbird, KOMPSAT2, IKONOS and Aerial Photographs between inter-image bands and NDVI, showing that there were high levels of correlation between Quickbird and IKONOS identified from all bands as well as from NDVI, except a high level of correlation that was identified between the Aerial Photographs and KOMPSAT2 from Band 2. Low levels of correlation were also identified between Quickbird and Aerial Photographs from Band 1. and between KOMPSAT2 and IKONOS from Band 2 and Band 4, whereas, KOMPSAT2 showed low correlations with Aerial Photographs from Band 3. For NDVI, KOMPSAT2 showed low level of correlations with both of QuickBird and IKONOS.
Newly developing SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) sensors commonly include high resolution X-band those data are expected to contribute various applications. Recent few studies are presenting potential of X-band SAR data in forest related application. This study tried to investigate the relationship between forest stand parameters and multi-band SAR normalized backscattering. Multi-band SAR data was radiometric corrected to compare signal from different forest stand condition. Then correlation coefficients were estimated between attribute of forest stand map and normalized backscattering coefficients. Although overall correlation coefficients are not high, only X-band shows strong relationship with DBH class than other bands. The signal of C- and L-band is composed of a large number of discrete tree components such as leaves, stems, even background soil. In forest, strength of radar backscattering is affected by complex parameters. Further study might be considered more various forest stand parameters such as canopy density, stand height, volume, and biomass.
In this paper, we discuss a method for efficiently coding the high-band signal in the split-band coding approach where an input signal is divided into two bands and then each band may be encoded separately. Generally, and especially through the research on the artificial bandwidth extension (BWE), it is well known that there is a correlation between the two bands to some degree. Therefore, some coding gain could be achieved by utilizing the correlation. In the BWE-prediction-based coding approach, using a simple linear BWE function may not yield optimal results because the correlation has a non-linear characteristic. In this paper, we investigate the new coding scheme more in details. A few representative BWE functions including linear and non-linear ones are investigated and compared to find a suitable one for the coding purpose. In addition, it is also discussed whether there are some additional gains in combining the BWE coder with the predictive vector quantizer which exploits the temporal correlation.
In this paper we address the problem of detecting and estimating an unknown narrow band signal in a noise interference environment A new practical band estimation method, yielding good performance even in case of finite-length data, is presented. More specifically, wavelet packet transform is utilized to detect the more accurate time-variant band, then we estimate the power from wavelet filter-coefficients of the respective band. Also, third-order cumulants, and projection cross-correlation (PCC) criterion are utilized to achieve an effective SNR improvement for the time-variant band estimation. In case of time variant band estimation, the PCC method yields better performance than the correlation method.
