A two-dimensional model for anode-supported IT-SOFCs is proposed in order to accurately consider the heat and mass transport processes with a fully-developed axial velocity profile in channel flow. A comprehensive micro model is employed to describe the electrochemical reaction in anode and cathode of SOFCs. This paper investigates the effects of operational parameters (inlet temperature, the amount of flow rate, and air flow rate) including flow configurations (co-flow and counter-flow) on the current density and temperature distributions in the IT-SOFCs.
The purpose of this study is to assess the additional neutron effective dose during passive scattering proton therapy. Monte Carlo code (Monte Carlo N-Particle 6) simulation was conducted based on a precise modeling of the National Cancer Center's proton therapy facility. A three-dimensional neutron effective dose profile of the interior of the treatment room was acquired via a computer simulation of the 217.8-MeV proton beam. Measurements were taken with a $^3He$ neutron detector to support the simulation results, which were lower than the simulation results by 16% on average. The secondary photon dose was about 0.8% of the neutron dose. The dominant neutron source was deduced based on flux calculation. The secondary neutron effective dose per proton absorbed dose ranged from $4.942{\pm}0.031mSv/Gy$ at the end of the field to $0.324{\pm}0.006mSv/Gy$ at 150 cm in axial distance.

Thermally expanded core fiber (TEC-fiber) Bragg gratings have been fabricated and their transmission spectrums have been analyzed. The measured spectrum shows the characteristic peak splitting caused by the grating pair formed over the expanded section that has the effective index axial distribution, which could be employed for high resolution fiber sensors. An analysis on the spectrum can also give useful informations on the effective index profile of the TEC-fiber.
Disk type Single Phase SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) can be used axial and radial direction magnetic flux. Therefore, the energy density per unit of volume is high and the axis can be shorter than that of any other motor. In this paper, the flux-linkage was measured according as rotor positions of disk type single phase SRM, which is designed and fabricated in previous studies. From the measured data, we got the magnetization curves, inductance profile, co-energy and torque. Also, we compared the value of the measurement with the value of analysis through 3D FEM simulation.
Computational grids used in the numerical simulation of multi staged turbomachinery flow fields are generated. A multiblock structure simplifies the creation of structured H-grids about complex turbomachinery geometries and facilitate the creation of a grid for multi-row topologies. The numerical algorithm adopts the combination of the algebraic and elliptic method to create the internal grids efficiently and quickly. The input module is made of the results of the preliminary design, i.e., flow-path, aerodynamic conditions along the spanwise direction, and the blade profile data. The final grids generated from each module of the system are used as the preprocessor for the performance prediction of the single row cascades and the flow simulation inside the multi staegd blade passage. Application to low pressure compressor of industrial gas turbine engines was demonstrated to be very reliable and practical in support of design activities.

Noise reduction for hydraulic pump is strongly demanded in the market with its efficiency and durability. In order to meet this demand, it is necessary to reveal mechanism for noise and relationship between the important factors. In this paper, mathematical model for cylinder pressure which is primary reason of pulsation and sound noise were established, and examined its pressure profile by simulation. Also, the valve plate of three kind types are manufactured and tested for piston pressure, pressure pulsation, and sound power level based on the tentative standard which is officially recognized.
We propose a precise 3D endoscopic technique for medical and industrial applications. As the 3D measuring principle, the continuously scanning structured illumination microscopy (CSSIM), which enables to obtain 3D sectional images by the synchronous axial scanning of the target with the lateral scanning of the sinusoidal pattern, is adopted. In order to reduce the size of the probe end, the illumination and detection paths of light are designed as coaxial and a coherent imaging fiber bundle is used for transferring the illumination pattern to the target and vice versa. We constructed and experimentally verified the proposed system with a gauge block specimen. As the result, it was confirmed that the 3D surface profile was successfully measured with $16.1{\mu}m$ repeatability for a gauge block specimen. In order to improve the contrast of the sinusoidal illumination pattern reflected off on the target, we used polarizing optical components and confirmed that the visibility of the pattern was suitable in CSSIM.

Background: The glenoid version of the shoulder joint correlates with the stability of the glenohumeral joint and the clinical results of total shoulder arthroplasty. We sought to analyze and compare the glenoid version measured by traditional axial two-dimensional (2D) computed tomography (CT) and three-dimensional (3D) reconstructed images at different levels. Methods: A total of 30 cases, including 15 male and 15 female patients, who underwent 3D shoulder CT imaging was randomly selected and matched by sex consecutively at one hospital. The angular difference between the scapular body axis and 2D CT slice axis was measured. The glenoid version was assessed at three levels (midpoint, upper one-third, and center of the lower circle of the glenoid) using Friedman's method in the axial plane with 2D CT images and at the same level of three different transverse planes using a 3D reconstructed image. Results: The mean difference between the scapular body axis on the 3D reconstructed image and the 2D CT slice axis was 38.4°. At the level of the midpoint of the glenoid, the measurements were 1.7°±4.9° on the 2D CT images and -1.8°±4.1° in the 3D reconstructed image. At the level of the center of the lower circle, the measurements were 2.7°±5.2° on the 2D CT images and -0.5°±4.8° in the 3D reconstructed image. A statistically significant difference was found between the 2D CT and 3D reconstructed images at all three levels. Conclusions: The glenoid version is measured differently between axial 2D CT and 3D reconstructed images at three levels. Use of 3D reconstructed imaging can provide a more accurate glenoid version profile relative to 2D CT. The glenoid version is measured differently at different levels.

This study is the second investigation on the steady flow characteristics of an SI engine with a semi-edge combustion chamber as a function of the port shape with varying evaluation positions. For this purpose, the planar velocity profiles were measured from 1.75B, 1.75 times of bore position apart from the bottom of head, to 6.00B positions using particle - image velocimetry. The flow patterns were examined with both a straight and a helical port. The velocity profiles, streamlines, and centers of swirl were almost the same at the same valve lift regardless of the measuring position, which is quite different from the case of the pent-roof combustion chamber. All the eccentricity values of the straight port were out of distortion criterion 0.15 through the lifts and the position. However, the values of the helical port exceeded the distortion criterion by up to 4 mm lift, but decreased rapidly above the 3.00B position and the 5 mm lift. There always existed a relative offset effect in the evaluation of the swirl coefficient using the PIV method due to the difference of the ideal impulse swirl meter velocity profile assumption, except for the cylinder-center-base estimation that was below 4 mm of the straight port. Finally, it was concluded that taking the center as an evaluation basis and the assumption about the axial velocity profile did not have any qualitative effect on swirl evaluation, but affected the value owing to the detailed profile.

An experimental study of turbine performance is conducted with various incidence angles on a rotating turbine rotor. 5 different incidence angles are applied from -17$^{\circ}$to 13$^{\circ}$with 7.5$^{\circ}$gaps. In order to precisely set up the incidence angles at the rotor inlet, 5 turbine discs are manufactured with the different fir tree section. Total-to-total efficiencies are obtained on the several off-design points with considering the exit total pressure, which is meas fred at 12 locations between the hub and casing using a pressure rake. The degree of reaction is 0.373 at the mean radius, and Reynolds number based on the rotor chord is 0.86$\times$10$^{5}$ at the turbine inlet on the design point experiment. The experiment on a single-stage turbine is conducted at the low-pressure and low-speed state, but it is sufficient to consider the blade loading effect due to the rotating apparatus even though the total pressure loss at the exit is increased proportionally to the turbine output power. The experimental results recommend 6$^{\circ}$as an optimum incidence angle on the turbine blade design. The total-to-total efficiency is steeply decreased when the incidence angle is over $\pm$9$^{\circ}$ from the optimum incidence angle. In the range of less than -10$^{\circ}$incidence angle, 7.5$^{\circ}$ reduction of incidence angle generates 15% decrease of total-to-total efficiency. This result is obtained on the same rotor blade by changing only the rotational speed to minimize the effect of profile and secondary flow loss in the passage. Experimental results show that the change rate of total-to-total efficiency according to the incidence angle change is unchanged although the turbine operates at the off-design condition.
