  • To ensure competitiveness in the modern automotive market, material arrangements and information managements should be performed concurrently with new car developments. In automotive general assembly shops, thus, new business workflow and supporting environments are inevitable to reduce the manufacturing preparation time in developing a new car in the manner of concurrent and collaborative engineering. Since complete material arrangements for a whole general assembly system is a huge and complex job, several planners should execute their planning jobs and share information. Therefore, each planner should provide others with his/her results with continuous on-line communication and cooperation. Digital automotive general assembly factory is useful the performing concurrent and collaborative engineering and is essential for material arrangements and information managements systems. In this research, we constructed a sophisticated digital factory of an automotive general assembly shop by measuring and modeling through the parametric 3-D CAD, and a web-based system for concurrent and collaborative material arrangements for automotive general assembly via 3D mock-up is developed. By the digital general assembly shop and developed web-based system, savings in time and colt of manufacturing preparation activities are possible, and the reliability of the planning result Is greatly improved.

  • Digital Manufacturing is a technology to facilitate effective product developments and agile productions by digital environments representing the physical and logical schema and the behavior of real manufacturing system including manufacturing resources, processes and products. A digital factory as a well-designed and integrated environment is essential for successful applications of this technology. In this research, we constructed a sophisticated digital factory of an automotive company’ general assembly shop by measuring and 3-D CAD modeling using parametric methods. Specific parameters of each objects were decided by object-oriented schema of the general assembly shop. It is expected that this method is very useful for constructions of a digital factory, and helps to manage diverse information and re-use 3D models.

  • To achieve rapid new car developments and cost saving, new approaches for automotive general assembly in manufacturing preparations are needed. In this paper, CAD and DMU technologies for design and evaluation of machines and equipments are discussed. Digital Mock-up based on 3-D CAD models usually apply in the area of concept design and design review. We focus on manufacturing preparations of the machine and equipment. Detail procedures, examples and considerations of DMU are suggested in this paper. By applying DMU in the manufacturing preparations of general assembly, time, cost and quality of engineering can be enhanced through engineering collaboration.

  • To shorten product development time and cost, integrated information managements of product, manufacturing process and resource are essential. In the area of material addressing, process engineers should make their decisions in the manner of collaborative engineering in order to reduce the manufacturing preparation time and cost in the product development and production. A digital virtual factory which is an united digital model of entire factory could be very useful for these areas. In this paper, the digital virtual factory is constructed and used for material addressing and analysis of an automotive general assembly shop. We developed the material addressing system for automotive general assembly shops using digital virtual factory models and nesting algorithms, and applied it to realistic problems of a Korean automotive company as an convenient and effective way of material addressing.

  • To maintain competitiveness in the modern automotive market, it is important to carry out process planning concurrently with new car development processes. Process planners need to make decisions concurrently and collaboratively in order to reduce manufacturing preparation time for developing a new car. Automated generation of a simulation model by using the integrated process plan database can reduce time consumed for carrying out a simulation and allow a consistent model to be used throughout. In this research, we developed a web-based system for concurrent and collaborative process planning and flow analysis for an automotive general assembly using web, database, and simulation technology. A single integrated database is designed to automatically generate simulation models from process plans without having to rework the data. This system enables process planners to evaluate their decisions quickly, considering various factors, and easily share their opinions with others. By using this collaborative system, time and cost put into the assembly process planning can be reduced and the reliability of the process plan would be improved.

  • In this paper, a digital simulation model for an automotive assembly line is constructed by adapting a digital manufacturing methodology. Applied methodology is a simulation for a plant level of the assembly production line. The first significance of this methodology is a validation of the production planning based on various scenarios. The second is pre-verification for the new production plan or production method. The third is a visualization of the production process. Several models were implemented and those models were verified. Then, it was possible to find a most efficient production scenario and production method.

  • This study theoretically investigated the roll-off cleanliness operation to eliminate the built-in contaminants which are primarily the result of manufacturing and assembly procedures first. A rigorous analytical examination of the cleaning process associated with hydraulic systems was performed by developing the general filtration process equations. The sloughing process by which built-in contaminant is entrained in the system fluid was examined during the development of a general analytical expression for sloughing rate. This sloughing rate expression in conjunction with the filtration process equations have lead to a relationship rate expression in conjunction with the filtration process equations have lead to a relationship which describes the flushing and clean-up operation for the hydraulic systems. The effects of the primary roll-off cleanliness factors was discussed and illustrated on the figures. Then, the analytical results was shown to be usefully applied into the design of roll-off flushing equipment for the hydraulic system of a tractor.

크랭크샤프트 강건 설계 (Robust Design of Crankshaft)

  • Finite element analysis along with DOE scheme has been performed to obtain robust design of crankshaft assembly. This study focused on obtaining optimized fillet radius of crankshaft mainly by statistical approach. 27 design cases using 3 factors with 3 levels are constructed by design of experiment. Changes of design factors and noise factor may influence the durability of crankshaft system. General two stages of robust design may enhance the durability of crankshaft model. Increasing crank arm thickness was adopted as a shrink step and change of fillet radius was used as a shift step. By combining these two steps, the stress concentration at the fillet area is reduced and adequate fillet radius is determined for the robust design of crankshaft.
