Risk Factors Affecting Equipment Management in Construction Firms

  • Mechanization and automation constitute an essential stage in the production and operation of any company, as one of the determinants of increase in labor productivity and decrease in product price, while significantly contributing to shortening of the lead time. Businesses are, therefore, able to quickly put projects into operation, improving economic efficiency, quality, and aesthetics, which speeds up the national economic growth. For the construction industry to be the most effective, modern construction equipment is a necessity. It is one of the five main resources of a construction project. Thus, effective construction equipment management contributes to the success of a project and benefits the relevant construction companies economically. This paper presents the critical risk factors affecting equipment management and proposes suitable solutions. The questionnaire-based survey with experienced experts in the construction sector on the management of the likelihood and consequence of risk factors revealed thirty-two risks for equipment management in construction companies. These factors fell into six groups: (i) site organization-related risks; (ii) management-related risks; (iii) owner-related risks; (iv) supplier-related risks; (v) legal risks, and (vi) site condition-related and external risks. The results showed that management-related factors contributed to the most significant risks and problems for equipment management in construction companies.

산업용 자동화 장비를 위한 스마트 제어 시스템 설계 (A Design of the Smart Control System for Industrial Automation Equipment)

  • 스마트 기기는 휴대하기 편리하고 애플리케이션이 개발이 쉬운 장점으로 다양한 산업 분야에 적용되고 있다. 그러나 산업용 장비 분야에서는 장비에서 제공되는 정보에 대한 보안 문제 및 원격지에서 장비의 액추에이터를 제어할 경우 사고가 발생할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 위 문제에 대한 해결 방법과 스마트 제어 시스템을 산업용 자동화 장비에 적용할 경우 장점에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 이런 문제 해결을 위해 장비 조작 시 발생할 수 있는 사고에 대해 질의를 이용한 매뉴얼 조작 방법과 스마트 기기를 이용한 장비 제어 시 스마트 제어 접근 허용 절차를 제안하였으며, 통신 데이터 보호 및 사용자 인증 방법으로 다중 암호화 프로토콜을 이용한 데이터 전송 방법과 단말기 고유 정보 및 Q&A를 이용한 사용자 인증 방법 제안하였다. 구현된 스마트 제어 시스템의 성능을 평가하기 위해 스마트 제어 시스템의 동작 실험과 사용자 인증 비교 실험을 하였으며, 장비에 적용 시 장점을 파악하기 위한 실험에서 스마트 제어 시스템은 티칭 팬던트 보다 편리하게 티칭 조작이 가능하였고, 다양한 정보 취득과 하드웨어 조작이 가능하였다. 또한, 스마트 제어 시스템 적용 시 장비의 에러 조치 시간을 약 13% 단축할 수 있었다.

  • 소비자들이 원하는 제품이 다양해지면서, 경쟁력 있는 제품을 생산하기 위해 자동화 장비의 종류가 다양해지고, 고도화 되어 가고 있다. 일반적으로 장비들은 운영자가 효율적으로 장비를 감시하고, 신속하게 조작할 수 있도록 사용자용 인터페이스 장치(HMI)를 내장하여 제작하고 있다. HMI 장치는 다양한 산업용 컨트롤러와 연결되기 때문에, 디자인하는 단계에서 다양한 컨트롤러의 통신 프로토콜 등의 요소를 이해하고 설정해야 한다. 비전문가들은 다양한 프로토콜 중 호환 가능한 항목을 선택하는데 어려움이 존재할 뿐만 아니라, 화면과 설정이 정적으로 할당되므로 하나의 기기에서 통합 운용하는데 한계가 존재한다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 장치를 사용하여, QR코드로 장비의 ID, 통신 프로토콜 등의 정보를 스캔하고, 산업용 컨트롤러에 접속하여 원격으로 표시된 장비 화면을 조작할 수 있는 모델을 제안한다. 제안 모델은 하나의 모바일 장치를 활용하여 다양한 자동화 장비의 통신 환경을 쉽게 설정하고, 감시 및 조작할 수 있어 자동화 장비의 점검 및 관리에 효율이 증대될 것으로 기대된다.

  • Unlike conventional single special cut methods, W-EDM is a combination of multiple-effects. This study focuses on the effects of second cut on the roughness of surfaces treated with W-EDM. W-EDM is, to a large extent, typical unmanned-machining equipment, which represents NC machining equipment that allows long-time full automation. W-EMD is getting popular as a precise machining technology and STD11 is frequently used in press die manufacture. In this study, the former is applied to the latter to look at the effects of second cut on the roughness of surfaces treated with W-EDM.

A Study of the Characteristics of a Partial Discharge of SF6 Following a Fault

  • When faults occur in the power equipment that is used a great deal in industrial sites, it may lead to fatal accidents that cause losses both economically and in manpower. In this paper, the effect of particle impact on the partial discharge of $SF_6$ gas was measured by simulating a partial discharge following the type of fault found in the GIS using $SF_6$ insulating gas as the insulating material. A spectrum analysis was performed on the radiate electromagnetic waves emitted upon partial discharge by using the UHF insulation diagnosis method. This subject of this study is insulation diagnosis by the measurement of radiate electromagnetic waves when particles exist in the GIS and power equipment insulated with $SF_6$ gas.

  • Various database and analysis system has been used for the cost effective maintenance of distribution facility but it is not effective because of the lack of interconnection among these systems. In order to overcome this problem this paper proposes reliability centered maintenance system based on the on-line monitoring of distribution system through intelligent distribution equipment. This system is made by the interconnection of distribution automation system, asset management system, failure analysis system and failure mode effect analysis system.

잠수함 개념 설계를 위한 디지털 목업 개발 (Development of a Digital Mock-up for Conceptual Design of a Submarine)

  • In designing and manufacturing a submarine, an expensive real mock up is usually built as a reference because of the spatial constraints of a submarine. This paper presents an integrated and automated design process for a submarine that uses a digital mock up. Various equipment libraries are built for feature based design. Using the developed digital mock up, this paper shows various ways to verify the design, including a space analysis to check for any interference between pieces of equipment and the hull and an ergonomic analysis using lifelike dummies to examine the work space and operability. As a part of the integrated design system, a design automation system was also developed to generate surface point data for the outer hull, pressure hull, casing, and sail. The whole process was applied to the design of a submarine for verification.

  • The roll Pass design is one of the most important processes to design the whole equipment of the rods and bars rolling system. In this study, the roll pass design program named TollRo(Rolling Factory Organizer) was developed. conventional methods to design roll pass were analyzed and a new algorithm to design the dimension of the intermediate groove was introduced. Object oriented programming technology was implemented in this design program. It comprises GUI(Graphic User Interface), function of automatic pass design, function of modifying pass schedule and database of material properties. The developed program can be used to design roll pass with consistency for the rods and bars rolling system. The man-hours for the whole design can be drastically reduced. The design parameters of rolling system can be extracted quickly by this program.

  • This paper proposes and implementation procedure for an automatic assembly system from a manual assembly and an evaluation method of implemented several automatic system alternatives using an AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) in a small-sized motor. First, the current product is redesigned for DFA (Design For Assembly) and assembly automation of motor, and then it is decided mechanisms of moving, magazining, feeding, composing of each part using main joining equipment and auxiliary equipment. Following the decided mechanism, the necessary assembly machines are selected or designed considering objectives and assembly conditions. Finally, the layout alternatives are completed for the automatic assembly system. According to the evaluation criteria which are established in advance, the automatic system alternatives are analyzed using AHP.

New Conceptual Handling Systems in Container Terminals

  • This paper introduces some of the developments related to the handling equipment in container terminals and various new conceptual handling systems that have been proposed during the last several decades. The basic ideas behind the previous equipment improvements are analyzed to identify future directions that can be used for devising new handling systems. The handling systems in the container terminals include a quayside handling system, transport system, and yard system. In response to the deployment of mega-sized vessels for container transportation systems, productivity improvement has become one of the most urgent issues in the container terminals. This paper analyzes the previous improvements made for achieving higher productivity in the three subsystems of container handling. Some conceptual handling systems are introduced including the linear motor conveyance system (LMCS), automated storage and retrieval systems (AR/RS), overhead grid rail (GRAIL), SPEEDPORT, SuperDock, the automated container system by ZPMC (ACS-ZPMC), and AUTOCON.
