System dynamics of scanning tunneling microscope unit

  • G. Binnig and H. Rohrer introduced the Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) in 1982 and developed it into a powerful and not to be missed physical tool. Scanning tunneling Microscopy is a real space surface imaging method with the atomic or subatomic resolution in all three dimensions. The tip is scanned over the surface by two piezo translators mounted parallel (X-piezo and Y-piezo) to the surface and perpendicular to each other. The voltage applied to the third piezo (Z-piezo) translator mounted perpendicular to the surface to maintain the tunneling current through the gap at a constant level reflects then the topography of the surface. The feed back control loop for the constant gap current is designed using the automatic control technique. In the designing process of the feed back loop, the identification of the gap dynamics is very complex and has difficulty. In this research, using some suitable test signals, the system dynamics of the gap including the Z-piezo are investigated. Especially, in this paper, a system model is proposed for the gap and Z-piezo series system. Indicial response is used to find out the model. The driving voltage of the Z-piezo and the tunneling current are considered as input and output signals respectively.

Using Field Programmable Gate Array Hardware for the Performance Improvement of Ultrasonic Wave Propagation Imaging System

  • Recently, wave propagation imaging based on laser scanning-generated elastic waves has been intensively used for nondestructive inspection. However, the proficiency of the conventional software based system reduces when the scan area is large since the processing time increases significantly due to unavoidable processor multitasking, where computing resources are shared with multiple processes. Hence, the field programmable gate array (FPGA) was introduced for a wave propagation imaging method in order to obtain extreme processing time reduction. An FPGA board was used for the design, implementing post-processing ultrasonic wave propagation imaging (UWPI). The results were compared with the conventional system and considerable improvement was observed, with at least 78% (scanning of $100{\times}100mm^2$ with 0.5 mm interval) to 87.5% (scanning of $200{\times}200mm^2$ with 0.5 mm interval) less processing time, strengthening the claim for the research. This new concept to implement FPGA technology into the UPI system will act as a break-through technology for full-scale automatic inspection.

자동 망 구성 기능을 갖는 네크워크 모니터링 시스템 (A Network Monitoring System with Automatic Network Configuration)

  • 본 논문에서는 효율적인 망 관리를 위해 네트워크 감시 대상 노드들과 망 구성에 대한 정보를 자동적으로 구축하는 네트워크 모니터링 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 구현된 모니터링 시스템은 ARP 동보 패킷을 이용하여 노드들을 자동 인식하며 인식된 노드들에 대하여 NETBIOS 이름 확인 절차와 ICMP 기능을 통해 수집된 정보를 바탕으로 해당 서브넷의 망 구성 정보를 자동적으로 생성하고 이를 보여준다. 또한 각 노드들에 대하여 포트 스캐닝 감시를 통하여 침입을 탐지할 수 있는 실시간 감시 기능을 갖는다. 구현된 모니터링 시스템을 이용하면 자동 노드 인식이 가능함으로써 망 관리를 위해 망에 연결된 노드들의 주소를 관리해야하는 부담을 해소시켜주며 이를 통해 효율적인 망 관리를 수행 할 수 있도록 도와준다.

  • We present an automatic inspection system which been developed to evaluate the geometric tolerances of the optical fiber connectors with an dimensional accuracy of$\pm0.1\mnm$. The main part of the inspection system comprises a series of machine vision and laser scanning probes to measure the internal and external circle diameters along with concentricity by making the most of advanced edge detection algorithms. Actual experimental results obtained through various repeatability tests demonstrate that the system well satisfies the required industrial demands for in-situ inspection of optical fiber connections in real manufacturing environment.

신뢰성 향상 기반의 송풍전자장치 자동검사 시스템 구현 (Implementation for Automatic Inspection System on Ventilating Electronic Device Based on Reliability Improvement)

  • 본 연구는 신뢰성 향상 기반의 송풍전자장치 자동검사 시스템을 구현하기 위한 연구이다. 신뢰성향상을 위해 수동검사 시스템에서 자동검사 시스템은 전자제품 검사의 오류를 최소화한다. 송풍전자장치 자동화 검사 시스템은 제어시스템과 모니터링시스템으로 구성되어 되어 실시간으로 검사결과를 공유한다. 검사시스템의 신뢰성은 Gage R&R 분석기법을 적용하여 평가한다, 평가결과는 수동검사에 비해 풍압센서를 기반으로 검사속도 2배 이상, 측정오차 ${\pm}0.02V$, 판정 능력의 유효성 15%, 누락확률 17%, 허위경보확률 12% 등으로 향상되었다. 따라서 전자제품 자동검사 시스템은 제품 바코드와 연동시켜 데이터베이스화하면 효율적인 신뢰성 향상의 품질관리시스템으로 발전시킬 수 있다.

유비쿼터스 홈 메스클린업 로봇의 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on Implementation of Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot)

  • In this paper, Ubiquitous Home Mess-Cleanup Robot(UHMR), which has a practical function of the automatic mess-cleanup, is developed. The vacuum-cleaner had made the burden of house chore lighten but the operation labour of a vacuum-cleaner had been so severe. Recently, the cleaning robot was producted to perfectly solve the cleaning labour of a house but it also was not successful because it still had a problem of mess-cleaning, which was the clean-up of big trash and the arrangement of newspapers, clothes, etc. The cleaning robot is to just vacuum dust and small trash but has no function to arrange and take away before the automatic vacuum-cleaning. For this reason, the market for the cleaning robot is not yet built up. So, we need a design method and technological algorithm of new automatic machine to solve the problem of mess-cleanup in house. It needs functions of agile automatic navigation, novel manipulation system for mess-cleanup. The automatic navigation system has to be controlled for the full scanning of living room, to recognize the absolute position and orientation of tile self, the precise tracking of the desired path, and to distinguish the mess object to clean-up from obstacle object to just avoid. The manipulate,, which is not needed in the vacuum-cleaning robot, must have the functions, how to distinguish big trash to clean from mess objects to arrange, how to grasp in according to the form of mess objects, how to move to the destination in according to mess objects and arrange them. We use the RFID system to solve the problems in this paper and propose the reading algorithm of RFID tags installed in indoor objects and environments. Then, it should be an intelligent system so that the mess cleaning task can be autonomously performed in a wide variety of situations and environments. It needs to also has the entertainment functions for the good communication between the human and UHMR. Finally, the good performance of the designed UHMR is confirmed through the results of the mess clean-up and arrangement.

레이저 비전 기술을 이용한 물체의 3D 모델 재구성 방법에 관한 연구 (A Study on Three-Dimensional Model Reconstruction Based on Laser-Vision Technology)

  • In this study, we proposed a three-dimensional (3D) scanning system based on laser-vision technique and rotary mechanism for automatic 3D model reconstruction. The proposed scanning system consists of a laser projector, a camera, and a turntable. For laser-camera calibration a new and simple method was proposed. 3D point cloud data of the surface of scanned object was fully collected by integrating extracted laser profiles, which were extracted from laser stripe images, corresponding to rotary angles of the rotary mechanism. The obscured laser profile problem was also solved by adding an addition camera at another viewpoint. From collected 3D point cloud data, the 3D model of the scanned object was reconstructed based on facet-representation. The reconstructed 3D models showed effectiveness and the applicability of the proposed 3D scanning system to 3D model-based applications.

비전센서를 이용한 용접선 자동추적에 관한 연구 (A Study on Automatic Seam Tracking using Vision Sensor)

  • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realized the automatic weld seam tracking. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes an to obtain specific weld points. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The dead zone, where the sensing of weld line is impossible, was eliminated by rotating the camera with its rotating axis centered at the weld torch. When weld lines were detected, the camera angle was controlled in order to get the minimum image data for sensing of weld lines. Consequently, the image processing time was reduced.

  • A CCD-camera, which is structured with vision system, was used to realize automatic seam-tracking system and 3-D information which is needed to generate torch path, was obtained by using laser-slip beam. To extract laser strip and obtain welding-specific point, Adaptive Hough-transformation was used. Although the basic Hough transformation takes too much time to process image on line, it has a tendency to be robust to the noises as like spatter. For that reson, it was complemented with Adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning a welding-specific point. the dead zone,where the sensing of weld line is impossible, is eliminated by rotating the camera with its rotating axis centered at welding torch. The camera angle is controlled so as to get the minimum image data for the sensing of weld line, hence the image processing time is reduced. The fuzzy controller is adapted to control the camera angle.
