The attempt of this paper is to examine the basic theory on the analysis of the effect of a shading coil fitted to an electromagnetic contactor, and to compare experimentally the attracting force of an AC electromagnetic contactor with that of a DC electromagnetic contactor, with varying the airgap length. Equations are also proposed for calculating the AC and DC attracting force per unit consumption wattage by using the circuit constants measured from the experiment, and these calculated attracting forces are compared with those actulally measured, and then, the experimental contactor is examined in the view of its design. The calculated attracting forces are appeared to coincide well with the measured ones and the experimental contactor fitted with shading coil is revealed not so well designed for reducing the fluctuation of the attracting force.
It has been generally known that the chattering of an AC electromagnetic contactor due to the fluctuation of attracting force is the primary cause of its abrasion and noise. To reduce this chattering effect, an AC electromagnetic contactor is mostly fitted with a shading coil which works the role to make difference in phases of two distinct components of attracting force. The theoretical interpretation of an AC electromagnetic contactor with shading coil and the equation of its attracting force per unit wattage consumed have already been proposed, however, few explications so far have been made on the determination of optimal circuit constants of shading coil. In this paper, the auther constructs a circuit model of an AC electromagnetic contactor with shading coil which is based on the theoretical interpretation of shading coil examined to be valid by experiments under some assumptions, and defines the equation of attracting force without chattering per unit wattage consumed as a performance function for determining the optimal circuit constants of shading coil. And then, the optimal circuit constants maximizing the performance function are determined by means of computer simulation founded on the above circuit model and the characteristics of those circuit constants are examined with special attention to the coupling coefficient.

The labor force plays an important role in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) both in developed and developing countries. In countries where there are appropriate policies for training human resources and maintaining the health of human resources, such countries have a competitive advantage and can attract FDI inflows, besides having a workforce to meet the needs of foreign investors. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effect of the labor force and several other factors on FDI attraction in Vietnam. The empirical model is employed to perform regression and correlation on the impact of the labor force, real gross domestic product, inflation, index of business freedom, and index of investment freedom on Vietnam's FDI attraction by using a secondary time series data set during the period 1995-2018. The empirical results found that both labor force and inflation have a positive influence on FDI at a 5% significance level; index of business freedom has a positive impact on FDI at a 10% significance level, and real gross domestic product and index of investment freedom have a positive impact on FDI at a 1% significance level. From these results, this study proposes several important policy implications for Vietnam in attracting FDI in the future.
Impact event is the key factor influencing the operational state of the mechanical equipment. Additionally, nonlinear factors existing in the complex mechanical equipment which are currently attracting more and more attention. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel hybrid-separate identification strategy to solve the force identification problem of the nonlinear structure under impact excitation. The 'hybrid' means that the identification strategy contains both l1-norm (sparse) and l2-norm regularization methods. The 'separate' means that the nonlinear response part only generated by nonlinear force needs to be separated from measured response. First, the state-of-the-art two-step iterative shrinkage/thresholding (TwIST) algorithm and sparse representation with the cubic B-spline function are developed to solve established normalized sparse regularization model to identify the accurate impact force and accurate peak value of the nonlinear force. Then, the identified impact force is substituted into the nonlinear response separation equation to obtain the nonlinear response part. Finally, a reduced transfer equation is established and solved by the classical Tikhonove regularization method to obtain the wave profile (variation trend) of the nonlinear force. Numerical and experimental identification results demonstrate that the novel hybrid-separate strategy can accurately and efficiently obtain the nonlinear force and impact force for the nonlinear structure.

In the last few years, a considerable number of studies have been made on On-Off solenoid for fluid control. But, only few attempts have so far been made at solenoid actuator for high-voltage circuit breaker. In case of the high-pressure and high-flow system like high-voltage circuit breaker, a big size of On/Off solenoid is necessary which size is proportional to control pressure and flow rate. So, it is non-effective in the view point of system optimization. In this paper, On/Off solenoid actuator with the farce amplifier connected to the solenoid rod was proposed to get a high mechanical force and a fast response time. The magnetic force and the mechanical stress distributions were analysed using finite element analysis. The performances of suggested solenoid actuator were evaluated through the experimental results and compared with the analysis results.
A zero-load slider is composed of two outside rails which produce a lift force pushing up the slider from the disk surface and a wide reverse step region which produces a suction force attracting the slider to the disk surface. In this paper, the flying characteristics of zero-load sliders are obtained by using an optimization technique. In the pressure calculation module, the FIFD scheme is used to solve the modified Reynolds equation. The BFGS method and a line search algorithm is employed to predict the static flying attitude. To investigate the effect of the geometric- parameters of zero-load sliders on the flying characteristics, recess depth, front step width, rail width, and taper height are varied and the corresponding flying attitudes are obtained. Simulation results demonstrate that recess depth and rail width have significant influences on the flying characteristics.
Dynamic behavior of high speed train is very important because the high speed train should be safe and satisfied with the ride comfort. An eddy current brake system is mounted on trailer bogie and wheelset. The eddy current braking force longitudinally exerts on the articulated trailer bogie and the attraction force vertically exerts on the wheelset. Because a frame of eddy current brake system is flexible, these forces generate the vertical vibration at middle point of the frame. Also, the vibration change the vertical clearance between an electromagnet and top of rail which affect the magnitude of braking and attracting forces. Therefore, the dynamic behavior of the eddy current braking system must be predicted for design the dynamic characteristic of its mounting system when normally operate on rail which have irregularity. Vampire program is used for Prediction of the dynamic behavior of an eddy current braking system.
Despite its remarkable socioeconomic development, South Korea underperforms in terms of female labor force participation and women in leadership positions. As women appear to avoid nuclear engineering, we aim to evaluate its relative performance in attracting women to its labor force compared to other college majors. Using college-major level information from 2000, we test whether the female faculty share in nuclear engineering is lower than its counterparts. Although nuclear engineering has one of the lowest female faculty shares, its share exceeds that of agricultural science, business and economics, chemical engineering, chemistry, civil engineering, and industrial engineering once we properly control for gender composition among students and other compounding factors. In other words, once female students major in nuclear engineering, they are less likely to leave their fields compared to their counterparts in other disciplines. This result implies that if the nuclear engineering field aims to attract more women to its workforce, it is important to target them from the early stage of their careers.
Radish is a common vegetable consumed in Korea, Japan, and China. Radish Breeding has been conducted based on morphological properties, such as shape and color. Recently, physicochemical properties of radish are attracting more attention from breeders to develop cultivars for the retail market. In this study, major components of radish were determined and their relationship with textural property analyzed. Sixty-six radish cultivars were selected and divided into white head (WH) and green head (GH) according to their head color. The cutting forces of GH and WH groups were $2.17{\pm}0.34kg$ and $2.31{\pm}0.36kg$, respectively (P > 0.05). The starch contents of GH and WH were $3.75{\pm}0.39g\;per\;100g$ (dry basis) and $4.24{\pm}0.62g$, respectively. Cellulose contents in both groups were similar at 12.3-12.4 g per 100 g (dry basis). Pearson correlation coefficients between cutting force, cellulose content, and starch content ranged from -0.33-0.326 which does not demonstrate any strong correlation between these components. Therefore, no relationship was found between the cutting force and the starch content or the cellulose content for the cultivars analyzed in this study. As the first intensive study on the texture and the major components of radish, these results could provide valuable information for radish breeding if further studies on taste and nutrient components are conducted.
