  • Well-set tabletops influence customers' purchase behavior or post-purchase behavior by making the quality and image of a restaurant distinguished and customers impressed. This study aims to investigate the relations between the perception of environment among physical environments of restaurants and psychological responses to their tabletops and consumers' attitudes in order to suggest new guidelines for table-setting. As a result, the direct relations between the perception of environment in the tabletops of the restaurants and consumers' behavioral intention indicated that the perception factors of tabletops affected consumer behavior and that these perception factors affected the formation of general attitudes among consumers through emotional and cognitive responses. This result shows that tabletops can be an important key in managing restaurants with changing customer needs. Therefore, it is expected that positive customer attitude can be made by provoking their psychological responses with unique and attractive tabletop settings.

  • This study focuses on the differences in general self-concept, academic self-concept, significant others self-concept and emotional-physical self-concept in relation to appearance management behavior. It goes on to show that appearance management behaviors such as styles in clothing, makeup, skin care, hair care, cosmetic surgery and body shaping, weight control management are strongly influenced by self-concept. Therefore, this study was carried out with the aim of providing basic understanding and information on the appearance management behavior of middle school students. It was also done in an effort to find ways of improving the self-concept of students through education as a part of the domestic science curriculum. The results obtained in this study are as follows: On average, the middle school students who took part in this study showed low self-concept and appearance management behavior which indicates a negative image of themselves. This suggests that efforts need to be made so that students can see themselves in a positive way and improve their self-concept through appearance management behavior. Middle school students with a positive self-concept try to present themselves by keeping their skin clean and their hair attractive. They express their self-esteem and personality through fashion and by keeping and maintaining their clothing, shoes and bags. They also tend to show a positive attitude towards their studies and are more likely to understand and get along with others. The students who showed positive attitudes towards their bodies and emotions have a higher interest in clothing and try to express the image that they want for themselves. They are also less likely to change their bodies unnaturally through cosmetic surgery and body shaping. Appropriate appearance management behavior can help middle school students see themselves in a more positive way.

Factors associated with the Intention of Human Papillomavirus Vaccination among Mothers of Junior High School Daughters (여중생 딸을 둔 어머니의 인유두종 바이러스 백신 접종 의도 및 관련 요인)

  • This study aims to identify mothers' intentions to make their junior high school daughters receive HPV vaccination and identified related factors using the Theory of Planned Behavior. The subjects of this study were 198 mothers whose daughters second or third graders in 4 junior high schools located in G city. The data were collected from Sep 17th to 24th, 2012, which were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 Program. According to the result of this study, mothers' intention to vaccinate their daughters was relatively high, but only 29.8% out of them responded that would make their daughters receive HPV vaccination within six months, and they responded best average age for HPV vaccination was 17.74. The subjects' intentions toward HPV vaccination was significantly associated with attitude, perceived behavior control, and subjective norms statistically as influential variables, whose regression model could explain 84.3% of the intentions. Therefore, it is considered a social atmosphere be established where mothers are encouraged and promoted to be positive about HPV vaccination and perceive it to be easy.

  • This study first aims to investigate from the users' perspective what service is the most efficient to users and what service is relatively the most effective in contrast to investment among a variety of services provided by smartphone manufacturers, telecommunication companies, and related corporations. In addition, this research suggests implicatively important elements for making the future model of smartphone services. For this end, this study finds out the factors which generate users' positive or negative attitudes towards smartphone use through a questionnaire of those who are using smartphones at present. In particular, by applying Theory of Planned Behavior, this study analyzes the influence exerted by the user's belief towards the kinds of services by setting up Attitudinal Belief, Subjective Norms, and Control Belief which have an influence on attitude from the perspective of smartphone providing detailed services. The results of this study will eventually help the smartphone manufacturers, telecommunication companies, and related corporations to establish smartphone marketing strategy as well as to select the smartphone services which will have popular appeal to their users.

Why Do Users Participate in Hashtag Challenges in a Short-form Video Platform?: The Role of Para-Social Interaction (숏폼 비디오 플랫폼에서 사용자는 왜 해시태그 챌린지에 참여하는가?: 준사회적 상호작용을 중심으로)

  • One of the interesting social phenomena in short-form video platforms is the hashtag challenge wherein ordinary users are encouraged to create by imitating short viral videos on a particular theme. Despite the increasing popularity of hashtag challenges, theoretical discussion on related user behavior is still very insufficient. In this study, we attempted to examine the impact of micro-influencers in order to understand users' willingness to participate in hashtag challenges. For this purpose, the para-social interaction theory and imitation behavior literature were adopted as key theoretical basis. In an empirical investigation using 243 survey data from TikTok users, our study found that a user's illusion of intimacy with a micro-influencer (i.e., para-social interaction) had significant positive impact on the intention to participate in a hashtag challenge. This study also showed that the degree of para-social interaction in a short-form video platform was determined by both media content-related factors and media character-related factors (i.e., content attractiveness, physical attractiveness, and attitude homophily). Our work in this study provided significant theoretical and practical implications on how to leverage micro-influencers for the success of hashtag challenges in a short-form video platform.

A study on the health awareness and attitude of obese high school students (비만 고등학생의 보건행태조사연구)

  • Understanding average abnormal obese high school students' health awareness and attitude, We analyzed problems affect on this to provide basic data for the school health education in the near future. From March, 1997, covering a month period, We investigated 300 average obese students from each 3 school, both boys and girls, around Taegu area. Followings are the summary. 1) Grouping obesity, 86.6% of boys were abdominal type and 54.0% of girls were lump types. 2) IN physical check-up and serum lipid lab., there were a lot of abnormal students for blood pressure, serum glucose, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein(HDL), low density lipoprotein(LDL), neutral lipid, the rate of lipid in the body, atherosclerosis index and electrocardiogram (ECG).; Especially, for the rate of Lipid in the body, 100.0% were in the abnormal range. 3) The main reasons of stress were on the physique and grade. Over 50.0% of students get rid of their stress by singing and dancing. 4) 46.7% of boys and 56.0% of girls were satisfied with their desks and 51.3% of boys and 48.0% of girls were satisfied with their chairs.; 70.0% of boys and 78.7% of girls usually felt uncomfortable for their desks and chairs. 5) 100.0% of boys and 98.0% of girls have been educated for obesity.; 53.3% of boys and 50.7% of girls were not interested in whether joining in or not, if ‘Obese school’ is open. 60.7% of boys get information about weight loss from television, while 41.3% of girls get it from all sorts of publications.; Both sexes said eating convenience food is the main reason to be obese. Most frequent disease is high blood pressure.; 30.0% of boys and 31.3% of girls were hypertensives. 6) 84.7% of boys and 78.0% of girls are awake to the seriousness of obesity from their families. 58.7% of boys and 66.0% of girls sometimes have meals with their families. For the boys, 30.0% of them eat fruit and 29.3% eat cookies while 37.3% of girls eat cookies for their snacks. Both 57.3% of boys and 40.0% of girls have a snack once a day and they drink soft drinks frequently. Both 32.0% of boys and 46.7% of girls have midnight meals 1-2times a week. 7) Both 45.3% of boys and 50.0% of girls suddenly gained their weight in the elementary school times. 30.0% of boys exercise 1 hour for a week, while 48.0% of girls don't exercise. For the exercise hour, both 53.3% of boys and 42.0% of girls exercise for 10-30 minutes a time. 59.7% of boys and 82.0% of girls strongly don't trust in the informations on weight loss. Both 74.0% of boys and 75.3% of girls think physical therapy is the most suitable way for obesity care.

A Study on the Preference for Fashion Design According to Purchase Attitude at Interned Shopping Mall - An Analysis of the Central Net Generation - (인터넷쇼핑몰 구매태도에 따른 패션디자인 선호도에 관한 연구 - N세대를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to characterize purchase behavior at internet shopping mall and the preference for fashion design through analysis Net generations. The subjects for this sample were teen-agers and university students who had dwelled at pusan and ulsan in south korea. This study had 824 samples who had purchasing of fashion apparels at the internet shopping mall. The sampling data in this survey was analyzed by frequency analysis, factor analysis, T-test, Duncan-test, MANOVA and ANOVA of SPSS WIN package. The results of the study were as follows: 1. It was proved that among 824 individuals, 790(95.9%)individuals uses internet or pc communication and 33 individuals don't use any of them. 35.1% of using internet people have been using that for 1∼2 years. And they used internet for 1∼3 hours in a day(52.9%). And Net generations preferred Internet Shopping Mall because they didn't need to take the troubles of shopping and parking, but at the same time, they seemed to have distrust because they couldn't check the products personally. 2. People who decide to purchase by products and pursuit of information prefer cuffs, collar design, people of pursuit of convenience prefer sleeve, neckline, pants design, people of advertising and pursuit of services prefer cuffs, sleeve, collar, neckline, pants design and color. People who was dependent on perception of danger when they purchase preferred color and pattern. 3. It was proved that purchase attitude for men at internet shopping mall was convenience and for women, advertising and pursuit of services. 1318 teenagers decided to purchase mainly by advertising and pursuit of services at internet shopping mall and semi-adult are less dependent on that factors than 1318 teenagers did. Under high school educational course Net generation was dependent on the factors of advertising and pursuit of services when they purchase at internet shopping mall and above university educational course Net generation decide to purchase by the factors of products and pursuit of information. Also, people whose average income was above 3 million won ware dependent on the factors of advertising and pursuit of services and people whose income was under one million won was decide to purchase by the factors of perception of danger. People whose monthly expenditure on purchase was above 50,000 won ware depend on advertising and pursuit of services more than people whose expenditure was under 50,000 won did.

An Analysis of Purchase Behaviors of Department Store Users based on Types of Preference for Luxury Brands (백화점 이용고객의 명품브랜드 선호도 유형에 따른 구매행태 분석)

  • Purpose - With the increase in fervor to purchase luxury brands, new social problems have arisen, such as excessive preoccupation with luxury brands and high preference for forged luxury goods. Therefore, the issues related to luxury brands, termed "Luxury Syndrome," have emerged as an area of great interest for researchers and practitioners. However, previous studies neglect to categorize this preference for luxury brands. Therefore, this study aims to identify the different purchasing behaviors of consumers using the types of luxury brands preferences as parameters. Research design, data, and methodology - This study arranges a causal relationship model assuming that purchase behaviors positively (+) affect typified preference for luxury brands and purchase intentions. We administered a questionnaire survey to the purchasers who bought luxury brands from department stores to secure additional data necessary to verify the hypotheses in this study. We then processed the data using SPSS 19.0. We further analyzed the basic data using frequency and descriptive statistical analysis, and verified the measurement tools through feasibility and reliability analyses. Moreover, this study uses multiple regression analysis to verify the hypotheses. Further, this study tests the path effect between luxury brand purchase attitude and purchase behavior, with non-intrinsic preference and intrinsic preference as the mediating variables. Results - Based on the results, the impact of tendencies of conspicuous consumption and self-monitoring on non-intrinsic preference was significantly positive (+), while the impact of tendencies of pursuit of a reference group, conspicuous consumption, and self-monitoring on intrinsic preference and purchase intentions was significantly positive (+). Further, non-intrinsic and intrinsic preferences positively (+) influence purchase intentions and the impact of non-intrinsic preference took an absolute portion. However, the tendency of dependence on brands negatively (-) impacts purchase intentions. The results showed that self-monitoring and conspicuous consumption tendencies have greater effect on purchase intention, which is mediated by non-intrinsic preference. In contrast, reference group following tendency has a greater effect on purchase intention, which is mediated by intrinsic preference. Conclusions - Based on the results, the study verifies that the consumption of luxury brands in Korea has not yet entered the settling period. The tendency for conspicuous consumption and the tendency for pursuit of the reference group were relatively important aspects for the consumers who prefer luxury brands non-intrinsically and intrinsically, respectively. Especially, it was found that the purchase intentions for forged brands originate from the tendency to depend on brands. Based on these findings, this study suggests the measures to develop and mature the luxury brands market, and reinforce marketing performance at the three levels, that is, government, distributors, and manufacturers. The luxury brands manufacturers should devote themselves to the production and design of products to catch the attention of mature consumers of luxury brands. The luxury brands distributors should then raise the level of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) for opinion leaders. Finally, the Government should prepare effective policies for the development of luxury brands and provide a variety of economic support.

The Influence of Consumer Need Satisfaction and Star Traits on Consumer Attachment to Star Brand and Consumer Response to Product Brand Sponsored by Star Brand (소비자 욕구충족성과 스타 속성이 스타브랜드 애착과 후원브랜드에 대한 소비자반응에 미치는 영향)

  • This study is based on recent advances in celebrity traits and self-determination researches to address how consumers develop the strong attachment to a "star brand," and the effect of consumer's attachment to star brand on evaluation of product brand sponsored by the star. We use the consumers' need satisfaction and star traits as major causal factors that influence consumer's attachment to a star brand. Specifically this article uses autonomy need, relatedness need, competence need as the dimensions of need satisfaction and expertness, trustworthiness, likeability, and similarity as the key star traits. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of these factors on the consumer's attachment to star brand and how consumer's evaluation of product brand sponsored by star is moderated by the fitness level of between the image of star brand and the image of sponsored product brand. To collect the data, survey was taken in a University located in Incheon. Collected data are analysed using SPSS 15.0 and AMOS 7.0. The results show that when the star brand is perceived as more trustworthy and likeable, and satisfies autonomy need and relatedness need, the consumer is more likely to become strongly attached to him or her. The hypothesis that consumer's attachment to star brand will have the positive influence on the evaluation of product brand sponsored by star is supported. And hypothesis that consumer's attitude to a sponsored product brand is moderated by the fitness level of between the image of star brand and the image of sponsored product brand is also supported. The empirical results imply that star brand to which consumers are attached may have the significant positive impact on the consumers' evaluation process of endorsed product brand and purchase behavior, and that marketers should consider need dimensions which target consumers want to satisfy and the fitness level of between the image of star brand being considered as endorser and the image of product brand.

Factors Influencing Use of Mental Health Helping Systems among College Students in Korea (한국대학생의 정신건강 원조체계 활용에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Objective: This study examined the use of mental health helping systems among college students in Korea. A behavioral model of health service utilization was applied to examine factors influencing different types of helping systems. Methods: A total of 454 college students from four universities participated in the survey. A self-administered questionnaire measuring help-seeking behaviors including formal health and mental health services, informal helping system, peer group, and family support was used. Results: Respondents frequently turn to family members and peer group when in need, and age, sex, mental Health status, and attitude and knowledge on mental illness were significant factors affecting help-seeking behaviors of Korean students. While older students and those with more severe symptoms were more likely to seek help from formal resources, students with more severe symptoms were less likely to seek help from informal resources. Male students and those with negative attitude toward mental illness were less likely to ask peer groups for help. Conclusions: Study results indicate that informal resources and peer groups can be significant sources of social support for individuals in their late adolescence and young adulthood, however, their role as gateways to professional help is limited. Student counseling centers should take on a more active role in reaching out; implications for developing peer leaders as counselors and self-help groups are discussed.
