  • 100 nm 이하의 구형입자를 짧은 시간에 정확히 측정할 수 있는 기술을 개발하기 위하여 하전된 입자를 전기장내에 투입한 후 이의 이동도를 측정하였다. 100 nm의 표준 입자를 초순수에 분산시킨 후 Collison atomizer를 이용하여 입자를 공기중에 분산시켰다. 이후 입자를 건조시킨 후 입자의 분산과정에서 하전된 입자를 방사능 전기 중화장치를 통과시켜 입자의 하전을 기저상태로 만들었다. 이 후 입자를 전기 이동도 측정장치에 투입한 후 전기 이동도 측정장치의 유량과 전압을 조절하면서 입자의 크기를 측정하였다.

Study on the Atomization Characteristics of a Counter-swirling Two-phase Atomizer with Variations of Swirl angle (역선회 이류체 미립화기의 선회각 변화에 따른 미립화 특성연구)

  • Experimental and analytical researches have been conducted on the twin-fluid atomizers for better droplet breakup during the past decades. But, the studies on the disintegration mechanism still present a great challenge to understand the drop behavior and breakup structure. In an effort to describe the aerodynamic behavior of the sprays issuing from the internal mixing counter-swirling nozzle, the spatial distribution of axial (U) radial (V) and tangential (W) components of droplet velocities are investigated across the radial distance at several axial locations of Z=30, 50, 80, 120 and 170mm, respectively. Experiments were conducted for the liquid flow rates which was kept constant at 7.95 g/s and the air injection pressures were varied from 20 kPa to 140 kPa. Counter-swirling internal mixing nozzles manufactured at angles of $15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ the central axis with axi-symmetric tangential-drilled holes was considered. The distributions of velocities and turbulence intensities are comparatively analyzed. PDPA is installed to specify spray flows, which have been conducted along the axial downstream distance from the nozzle exit. Ten thousand of sampling data was collected at each point with time limits of 30 second. 3-D automatic traversing system is used to control the exact measurement. It is observed that the sprays with all swirl angle have the maximum SMD for on air injection pressure of 20 kPa and 140 kPa with centerline, respectively. The nozzle with swirl angle of $60^{\circ}$ has vest performance.

  • An improved spray model of a pressure-swirl atomizer was developed and the grid dependency of the model was investigated. Since the Lagrangian-Eulerian approach was adopted for tracking droplets, very small grids could not be used. However, in order to detect swirl flow accurately, small grids were needed because of the consideration of swirl injection. In order to overcome these limitations, numerical studies were performed by using various grids with cell sizes ranging from 10.0 $\times$ 10 mm to 0.625 $\times$ 0.625 mm. From these calculated results, it was observed that the most efficient grid cell size was 1.25 $\times$ 1.25 mm.

  • In the spray drying with rotating wheel atomizer of cheese powder, the relationships among variables were analyzed with Response Surface Methodology in which several independent variables such as total solid content, wheel rotation speed, and outlet temperature influenced dependent variables such as particle diameter, moisture content, bulk density, and viscosity of suspended liquid. Significance and correlation were tested according to central composite design. As a results of analyzing the correlations between independent and dependent variables, particle diameter and moisture content of cheese powder were decreased with increasing wheel rotation speed, and bulk density was decreased with increasing outlet temperature. Viscosity of suspended liquid were increased with increasing wheel rotation speed and total moisture content. In correlation among dependent variables, moisture content was proportional to bulk density, and particle diameter was inversly proportional to moisture content and bulk density.

Optimization of Emulsification and Spray Drying Process for the Microencapsulation of Flavor Compounds (향기성분 미세캡슐화를 위한 유화 및 분무건조 공정 최적화)

  • This study was conducted to optimize the emulsion process and the spray drying process for the microencapsulation of flavor compounds. Using the wall system selected, emulsion process for microencapsulation was optimized on the change of the pressure of piston-type homogenizer. Emulsification pressure of 34.5 MPa was found to be the most suitable for preparing flavor emulsion. Effects of drying temperature and atomizer speed of the spray drier on total oil, surface oil, and flavor release of the flavor powder were investigated using response surface methodology. The optimum spray drying conditions for minimal surface oil and flavor release and maximum total oil were $170{\circ}C$ inlet temperature and 15,000 rpm atomizer speed. The spray-dried powder processed with the highest drying temperature showed spherically-shaped particles with smooth surface.

  • We analyzed the concentrations of heavy metals associated airbone particles by using AAS made by both a domestic manufacturer and one of the foreign manufacturer. One model developed by a domestic manufacture showed excellent results in the selected wavelength with an excellent performance of a monochromator. It abandons a big drop except a fine drop to improve reproduction in atomizer, so that no remains should leave. Using the low pass filter we were able to reduce a noise of detection signal. The performance of our equipment was found to be highly compatible with that of a foreign company as we achieved the detection limit of about $0.015{\mu}g/L$ using a standard solution of Au. The PM samples had been collected from by main observation points in 7 areas of Seoul city from 2001 to the spring in 2002. with these PM sample we analyzed the concentrations of Pb, Cu, Mn, Cd, Ni, Fe, Cr, Co, Mg and Al.

  • EFI system has severe problems of heavy HC emission generated by large fuel droplets and non-uniform air-fuel mixture. Therefore, various atomization techniques are being developed in order to reduce HC emission. The one among those techniques is ar shrouded injector, which has better atomization ability and demands less power loss than other atomizers. Thus, the development of this air shrouded injector can be major topic to cope with international emission regulation. Nevertheless, there are few domestic and foreign studies which deal with air shrouded injector. In this study, the spray characteristics and atomization mechanism of the representative air shrouded injector were analyzed using PDPA system. From experimental results, the definite standards of air shrouded injector's spray characteristics were established.

  • The structure of sprays from a simplex type pilot nozzle atomizer is studied experimentally by measuring velocities, Sauter mean diameter, and number density. Interaction of the spray with gas-phase flow field generated from a 1 MW range industrial gas turbine combustor adopt ing a counter-swirler is investigated. Various spray behaviors are reported. Especially interest ing characteristics are the tangential motion of the spray and of the spray with swirl interaction. It shows a Rankine combined vortex type of velocity characteristics, having linear velocity profile inside the inner core whole small particles exist and rapidly decreasing velocity profiles outside. Interacting spray has relatively uniform number density profiles compared to the nozzle spray itself.

  • 현대 산업사회가 다양해짐에 따라 발생되는 생활폐기물의 형태도 다양화되었고 발생폐기물의 성상은 연소가 어려운 난분해성 폐기물로 발열량이 높아지고 있다. 이러한 폐기물의 처리를 위한 소각설비는 폐기물 처리형태에 따라 대형의 도시 쓰레기 소각장이나 지자체의 중형급 소각장, 발생원 단위의 소형 소각장으로 구분하여 처리하고있다. 기존 중ㆍ대형 소각로의 유해가스 처리시설은 일반적으로 냉각설비와 가스상 처리설비, 입자상 처리설비 등으로 구성되는데 반해, 소형 소각로는 싸이클론 방식만으로 구성되어 입자상 물질만을 처리하였으나, 최근에 들어서 관련법규가 개정되어 소형 소각로에서도 입자상 오염물질뿐만 아니라 HCl 및 SOx 등과 같은 산성가스류와 다이옥신 등의 배출농도를 규제함에 따라 가스상 오염물질도 처리하는 방안을 도입하고 있는 추세이다. A Study on the Preparation of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 System Ceramic Powders by Spray Pyrolysis Method (분무열분해법에 의한 MgO-Al2O3-SiO2계 화합물의 분체합성 및 그 특성)

  • Spinel, mullite and cordierite powders have synthesized from Mg(NO3)2.6H2O, Al(NO3).9H2O and SiCl4 solution by spray pyrolysis method. The two-fluid nozzle was used as an atomizer. The powders of sinel and mullite were synthesized above 80$0^{\circ}C$, but the cordierite composition was noncrystalline for all synthersizing temperature. Those noncrystalline powders were crystallized to $\alpha$-cordierite during calcining at 130$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs. The synthesized spinel, mullite and cordierite powders seem to be consisted of agglomerated hollow spherical particles. For all powders, the particle size ranged from submicron to about 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and mean particle size was about 1.4${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in diameter. The specific surface area values of spinel, mullite and cordierite powders were maximum for powders prepared at 100$0^{\circ}C$, and those were 45.9, 25.8 and 13.6$m^2$/gr, respectively.
