The volatile fraction of Oenanthe stolonifera DC. was extracted by a steam distillation under the atmospheric pressure and analyzed by gas chromatography(GC) and gas chromatogra-phy/mass spectrometry(Gc-MS) The experimental results revealed the presence of 63 volatile components. Among them 39 components identified were composed of 20 hydrocarbonss(61.94%) 9 alcohols(8.76%) 3 ketones(11.5%) 1 ester(1.34%) 1 aldehyde (2.29%) and 5 miscellaneous \ulcorner92.35%) The major volatile components of Oenanthe stolonifera DC. were limo-nene(12.12%) pulegone(94.8%) germacrene D(8.34%) and $\beta$-pinene(7.68%)

Hydrophobic treatments were conducted for different kinds of substrates, glass substrate, silicon wafer and plastic substrate. Ar-$CH_4$ gas mixture was used as a discharge gas for the hydrophobic treatment. The change of the contact angle before and after treatment was measured and compared. Time evolution of the contact angle change after hydrophobic treatment was investigated.
Atmospheric pressure plasma is used in the biological and medical fields. Miniaturization and safety are important in the application of apply atmospheric plasma to bio devices. In this study, we made a small, pocket-sized inverter for the discharge of atmospheric plasma. We used pulse power to control the neutral gas temperature at which the, when plasma was discharged. We used direct current of 5 V of bias(voltage). The output voltage is about 1 to 2 kilo volts the frequency is about 80 kilo hertz. We analyzsed the characteristics of the atmospheric plasma using OES(Optical emission spectroscopy) and the Current-Voltage characteristic of pulse power. By calculating of the current voltage characteristics, we were able to determine that, when the duty ratio increased, the power that actually effects the plasma discharge also increased. To apply atmospheric plasma to human organisms, the temperature is the most important factor, we were able to control the temperature by modulating the pulse power duty ratio. This means we can use atmospheric plasma on the human body or in other areas of the medical field.

In this study, the atmospheric plasma treatment with $He/O_2$ was conducted to modify the surface chemistry of carbon fibers. The effects of plasma treatment parameters on the surface energetics of carbon fibers were experimentally investigated with respect to gas flow ratio, power intensity, and treatment time. Surface characteristics of the carbon fibers were determined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Zeta-potential, and contact angle measurements. The results indicated that oxygen plasma treatment led to a large amount of reactive functional groups onto the fiber surface, and these groups can form together as physical intermolecular bonding to improve the surface wettability with a hydrophilic polymer matrix.

The characteristics of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) in He discharge are measured with electrical and optical diagnostics methods. The discharge phenomenon in one cycle of the APPJ was diagnosed using intensified charge coupled device (ICCD) imaging. The gate mode images show that the propagation of plasma bullets happens only when the applied voltage on the inner conductor is positive. Moreover, the Schlieren image of the plasma jet shows that the laminar flow is changed into a turbulent flow when the plasma jet is turned on, especially when the gas flow rate increases.

Atmospheric concentrations of PCBs were monitored in Ansung-city, Kyonggi province during the 2001/2002 to characterize the concentration distribution and seasonal variation of particle polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). Average concentration of particle bound PCB showed maximum value for penta-CBs and minimum value for octa-CBs. Seasonal contributions $(%\)$ of total particle PCBs showed the highest value in winter months and lowest value in summer month, This result indicated that concentration of total particle PCBs increased with decreasing temperature in the atmosphere. Therefore, particle PCBs were easily formed by the condensation of gas phase PCBs in winter months. The total particle PCBs exhibited an inverse correlation with temperature (p<0.01) which suggested that particle PCBs were easily formed by condensation of gaseous PCBs in winter months.
The atmospheric concentration of dimethylsulfide (DMS), known as the predominant volatile organic. sulfur compound, is determined at subnanogram level by a combined application of non-cryogenic preconcentration method and gas chromatography with flame photometric detection (GC/FPD). The volatile DMS in air is preconcentrated using a trapping tube containing adsorbent like Molecular Sieve 5A (or gold-coated sands). The tube is then connected to the GC/FPD system via a six-way rotary valve, thermally desorbed at 40$0^{\circ}C$, separated on OV101 column, and detected by a flame photometric detector. The DMS peak elutes at about 2.5 mins and is integrated electronically. The analytical precision, if expressed in terms of relative standard error, is around 5%. The detection limit of our GC/FPD system is ca 1 ng of DMS. Details of our analytical system are presented.
To prevent or reduce air pollutant from methanol fueled vehicles, methanol oxidation reaction was carried out using a heteropoly acid catalysts. Catalytic activities of catalysts have been experimented at atmospheric pressure in a fixed bed flow reactor. Catalysts were characterized by XRD, IR, thermal analysis, N $H_{3}$-TPD and GC pulse technique. Acidities of catalysts were highly affected by poly-atoms. Methanol conversion was much higher on catalyst with W than on catalyst with Mo as a poly-atoms. With the increase of copper content(X) in C $u_{x}$$H_{{3-2x}}$PMo catalyst, acidity was decreased and oxidation ability was increased. Methanol conversion and product distribution were affected by the acidity and oxidation ability of catalyst. Especially, supported PdSiW(1wt%) catalyst has a very good methanol conversion and C $O_{2}$ selectivity as high as a commertial 3-way catalyst.t.
This paper has comprehensively reviewed fine dust control technology from emission sources. Owing to the stringent national regulation, domestic industries have made consistent efforts to develop the high efficiency facilities since 1960s. In these days, harmful particulate pollutants including dioxins and PAHs as well as $PM_{2.5}$ are also of critical interests in government and civic groups. In addition, simultaneous treatment of gas and particles is being widely studied. It is believed that hybrid facilities which integrate a few advanced equipment may meet the atmospheric guidelines.
Recently, atmospheric pressure plasmas attract lots of interests for the useful applications such as surface modification and bio-medical treatment. In this study, a particle-in-cell Monte Carlo collision (PIC-MCC) simulation was adopted to investigate the discharge characteristics of a planar micro dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) with a driving frequency from 13.56 MHz to 162.72 MHz and with a gap distance of 80 micrometers. The variation of frequency, in the change in the electron energy probability function (EEPF). Through the relation between the ion trajectories and the frequency, results in the change of EEPFs is achievable with the turning point of frequency mode. Therefore, it is possible to categorize the efficient operation range of DBDs for its applications by controlling the interactions between plasmas and neutral gas for the generation of preferable radicals.
