  • We constructed two test server systems for KMTNet data management. One is the photometry database server which is optimized for stable operation, and the other is the photometric data process server which is optimized for fast I/O between devices. The performances of servers and data storage units were tested using various methods. Database upload was also checked using five different methods. From tests, we concluded that the most efficient method to upload photometric data processing results to database is the use of three nodes with job scheduler under the InnoDB engine. In this study we provide the test results for prototype servers for KMTNet data management.

  • I have developed a UV and visible spectroscopic database (UVSD) for atoms and molecules, which are found in interstellar medium, stars, galaxies, and in the atmospheres of the earth, planets, satellites, and comets. This UV and visible database, which is machine-readable, consists of three different sub-databases depending upon the characteristics of the sub-databases: (A) atomic and molecular line listings from laboratory observations or theoretical studies; (B) absorption spectra measured in laboratories; and (C) solar UV, visible, and infrared spectral atlases. The UVSD is in a very initial stage of development compared with other well organized and established infrared and microwave databases. In order to make a good quality and complete database, substantial efforts should be made for the acquisition of scattered important data from laboratories or institutions, and then the acquired heterogeneous data should be peer-reviewed and standardized.

  • The wind field and precipitable water vapor over the Tibetan Plateau are analyzed using the numerical model WRF. The spatial and vertical distributions of the relevant meteorological factors are summarized, providing evidence for selecting and further evaluating an astronomical site. This study serves as a further demonstration towards astro-climate regionalization, and provides us with an essential database for an astronomical site survey over the Tibetan Plateau.

  • The Korean Astronomical Data Center(KADC) in Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute(KASI) has developed a database of astronomical journals published by the Korean Astronomical Society and the Korean Space Science Society. It consists of all bibliographic records of the Journal of the Korean Astronomical Society(JKAS), Publication of the Korean Astronomical Society(PKAS), and Journal of Astronomy & Space Sciences(JASS). The KADC provides useful search functions in the search page such as search criterion of bibcode, publication date, author names, title words, or abstract words. The journal name is one of the search criterion in which more than one journal can be designated at the same time. The criterion of author name is provided bilingually: English or Korean. The abstract and full text can be downloaded as PDF files. It is also possible to search papers related to a specific research topic published in Korean astronomical journals, provided by the KADC, which often cannot be found the worldwide, Astrophysics Data System(ADS) services. The KADC will become basic infrastructure for the systematic construction of bibliographic records, and hence, make the society of Korean astronomers more interactive and collaborative.

  • We have estimated the fractal dimension of the molecular clouds in the Antigalactic Center based on the $^{12}CO$ (J = 1- 0) and $^{13}CO$ (J = 1- 0) database obtained using the 14m telescope at Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory. Using a developed code within IRAF, we were able to identify slice-clouds, and determined the dispersions of two spatial coordinates as well as perimeters and areas. The fractal dimension of the target region was estimated to be D = 1.34 for low resolution $^{12}CO$ (J = 1 - 0) database, and D = 1.4 for higher resolution $^{12}CO$ (J = 1 - 0) and $^{13}CO$ (J = 1 - 0) database, where $P {\propto} A^{D/2}$. The sampling rate (spatial resolution) of observed data must be an important parameter when estimating fractal dimension. Our database with higher resolution of 1 arcminute, which is corresponding to 0.2 pc at a distance of 1.1 kpc, gives us the same estimate of fractal dimension to that of local dark clouds. Fractal dimension is apparently invariant when varying the threshold temperatures applied to cloud identification. According to the dispersion pattern of longitudes and latitudes of identified slice-clouds, there is no preference of elongation direction.

  • At Kyoto University, a continuous solar full-disk observation in CaII K line had been done during 44 years of 1926 - 1969. The observation was done with a Askania spectroheliograph on daily base. The images were taken on photographic plates. We started a project to archive these image data into a digital database which will be open to the public for scientific researches. One of the scientific usage of the database is to study the long term variation of the solar chromospheres. Since the area of CaII K plage area is a measure of solar chromospheric heating, we can do comparative study of the sunspot cycle and the chromospheric heating cycle of the sun. Another interesting field of scientific utilization of the database is the long term variation of the heating of terrestrial upper atmosphere. As was shown by Yokoyama, Masuda and Sato (2005), the area of the CaII K plage is a good proxy measure of solar EUV irradiation onto the upper atmosphere of the earth. Thus the completion of our database will serve to supply a basic and long-span data for upper atmospheric heating issues by the cooperative study with the Inter-university Upper atmosphere Global Observation NETwork (IUGONET) developed in Japan.

  • In order to investigate the spatial orientation of the spin vectors of galaxies in the Virgo cluster, we carried out a detailed identification of all the certain and possible member disk galaxies with four UK Schmidt Telescope (UKST) III a-j direct plates digitized by the Automated Plate Measuring System (APM). As a result, a relatively large and complete database with no selection effect of the member galaxies has been established. We provide the APM measured values of the position angle (P.A.) and diameters at the isophotal level of 24.5 $m_j / arcsec^2$. Based on this newly generated database, an initial study on the spatial orientation of the spin vectors of galaxies in the Virgo cluster is shown.

  • A deep stellar analysis is introduced for the poorly studied open cluster NGC 2509. The Near-IR database of the digital Two Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) has been used to re-estimate and refine the fundamental parameters of the cluster, i.e. age, reddening, distance, and diameter. As well as, luminosity function, mass function, total mass, relaxation time, and mass segregation of NGC 2509 have been estimated here for the first time..
