Long-term changes in the hydrological characteristics of a small forest watershed were examined using a master baseflow recession curve and the measured rainfall-runoff data from the experimental forest watershed in the measured years 2003-2011. The results of the study showed that the recession coefficient of direct runoff was lower than that of baseflow. In small forested watershed, the direct flow was lower than that of large scale watershed, flow due to its shorter period of occurrence. And baseflow was similar to large scale watershed's. A regression equation $y=0.7528e^{-0.022x}$($R^2=0.8938$, range 0.3~0.8 mm) was obtained using the master baseflow recession curve for the study period and the recession coefficient was calculated as K = 0.978. Changes between master baseflow recession curve and runoff showed great association and relevance such as increasing runoff was associated with the gentle slope of master baseflow recession curve and decreasing runoff was associated with the slope of master baseflow recession curve contrary. In the later years of the study period, the slope of the master baseflow recession curve appreciably became more gentle due to increases in baseflow. This suggests that the forested experimental watershed exhibit improved structural functioning of normal flood control and reduced occurrence of water shortage problems.

Objective: POU class 1 homeobox 1 (POU1F1) mediates growth hormone expression and activity by altering transcription, eventually resulting in growth rate variations. Therefore, we aimed to identify chicken POU1F1 polymorphisms and evaluate the association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and growth-related traits, and logistic growth curve parameter traits (${\alpha}$, ${\beta}$, and ${\gamma}$). Methods: Three SNPs (M_1 to M_3) were used to genotype 585 $F_1$ and 88 $F_0$ birds from five Korean native chicken lines using a polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. Results: Single marker analyses and traits association analyses showed that M_2 was significantly associated with body weight at two weeks, weight gain from hatch to 2 weeks, and weight gain from 16 to 18 weeks (p<0.05). M_3 was significantly associated with weight gain from 14 to 16 weeks and from 16 to 18 weeks, and asymptotic body weight (${\alpha}$) (p<0.05). No traits were associated with M_1. The POU1F1 haplogroups were significantly associated with weight gain from 14 to 16 weeks (p = 0.020). Linkage disequilibrium test and Haploview analysis shown one main haploblock between M_2 and M_3 SNP. Conclusion: Thus, POU1F1 significantly affects the growth of Korean native chickens and their growth curve traits.

It is well known that the area U of the triangle formed by three tangents to a parabola X is half of the area T of the triangle formed by joining their points of contact. In this article, we consider whether this property and similar ones characterizes parabolas. As a result, we present three conditions which are necessary and sufficient for a strictly convex curve in the plane to be an open part of a parabola.

It is well known that the area U of the triangle formed by three tangents to a parabola X is half of the area T of the triangle formed by joining their points of contact. Recently, it was proved that this property is a characteristic one of parabolas. That is, among strictly locally convex $C^{(3)}$ curves in the plane $\mathbb{R}^2$ parabolas are the only ones satisfying the above area property. In this article, we study strictly locally convex curves in the plane $\mathbb{R}^2$. As a result, generalizing the above mentioned characterization theorem for parabolas we present some conditions which are necessary and sufficient for a strictly locally convex $C^{(3)}$ curve in the plane to be an open part of a parabola.

The problem of examining how well an assumed distribution fits the data of a sample is of significant and must be examined prior to any inferential process. The observed failure time data of items are often not wholly available in reliability and life-testing studies. Lowering the expense and period associated with tests is important in statistical tests with censored data. Goodness-of-fit tests for perfect data can no longer be used when the observed failure time data are progressive Type II censored (PC) data. Therefore, we propose goodness-of-fit test statistics and a graphical method based on generalized Lorenz curve for PC data from a location-scale distribution. The power of the proposed tests is then assessed through Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, we analyzed two real data set for illustrative purposes.

Background: Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) has been reported to be associated with the development of various cancers. However, the role of TRAF6 in lung cancer remains unclear. Objective: To explore the expression and clinicopathological significance of TRAF6 protein in lung cancer tissues. Materials and Methods: Three hundred and sixty-five lung cancer samples and thirty normal lung tissues were constructed into 3 microarrays. The expression of TRAF6 protein was determined using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Furthermore, correlations between the expression of TRAF6 and clinicopathological parameters were investigated. Results: The expression of TRAF6 in total lung cancer tissues (365 cases), as well as in small cell lung cancer (SCLC, 26 cases) and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC, 339 cases) was significantly higher compared with that in normal lung tissues. The ROC curve showed that the area under curve of TRAF6 was 0.663 (95%CI 0.570~0.756) for lung cancer. The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of TRAF6 were 52.6% and 80%, respectively. In addition, the expression of TRAF6 was correlated with clinical TNM stage, tumor size and lymph node metastasis in all lung cancers. Consistent correlations were also observed for NSCLCs. Conclusions: TRAF6 might be an oncogene and the expression of TRAF6 protein is related to the progression of lung cancer. Thus, TRAF6 might become a target for diagnosis and gene therapy for lung cancer patients.

A three dimensional binary parallel robot manipulator uses actuators which have only two stable states and its structure is variable geometry truss. As a result, it has a finite number of states and fault tolerant mechanism because of kinematic redundancy. This kind of robot manipulator has some advantages compared to a traditional one. Feedback control is not required, task repeatability can be very high, and finite state actuators are generally inexpensive. Because the number of states of a binary robot manipulator grows exponentially with the number of actuators it is very difficult to solve and inverse kinematic problem. The goal of this paper is to develop an efficient algorithm to solve an inverse kinematic problem of three dimensional binary parallel robot manipulator using a backbone curve when the number of actuators are too much. We first derive the coordinate transformations associated with a three degree of freedom in-parallel actuated robot manipulator. The backbone curve is generated optimally by considering the maximum roll and pitch angles of the robot manipulator configuration and length of link. Then, the robot manipulator is fitted along the backbone curve with some criterion.
An unfavorable tipping movement can occur during the retraction of anterior teeth because orthodontic force is loaded by brackets positioned far from the center of resistance. To avoid this unfavorable movement, a compensating curved wire or lingual root torque wire is used. The purpose of this study is to investigate, using photoelastic material, the distribution of initial stress associated with the retraction of the incisors according to the degree of the compensating curve, to model changes associated with tooth ud alveolar bone structure. The following results were obtained by analysis of the polarizing plate of the effects of initial stress resulting from retraction of the anterior teeth: 1. When the incisors were retracted using combination archwire or sliding mechanics, the maximal polarizing pattern of the apical area decreased as the degree of the compensating owe increased from 0 to 15 to 30. 2. When the incisors were retracted by the combination archwire or sliding mechanics, the maximal polarizing pattern of the canine and premolar area increased as the degree of the compensating curve increased from 0to 15to 30. 3. A lower degree of polarizing patterns were associated with the combination archwire technique than the sliding mechanics technique at a given force. The above results indicate that there is no significant difference between the combination loop archwire technique and sliding mechanics, for the retraction of maxillary anterior teeth with decreased lingual tipping tendency by a compensating curve on the arch wire. However, the use of sliding mechanics is more effective for the prevention of lingual inclination of the anterior teeth, because the hook used in sliding mechanics is closer to the center of resistance of the maxillary anterior teeth.
In this paper we define a Myller configuration in a Finsler space and use some special configurations to obtain results about Finsler subspaces. Let $F^{n}$ = (M,F) be a Finsler space, with M a real, differentiable manifold of dimension n. Using the pull back bundle $({\pi}^{*}TM,\tilde{\pi},\widetilde{TM})$ of the tangent bundle $(TM,{\pi},M)$ by the mapping $\tilde{\pi}={\pi}/TM$ and the Cartan Finsler connection of a Finsler space, we obtain an orthonormal frame of sections of ${\pi}^{*}TM$ along a regular curve in $\widetilde{TM}$ and a system of invariants, geometrically associated to the Myller configuration. The fundamental equations are written in a very simple form and we prove a fundamental theorem. Important lines in a Finsler subspace are defined like special lines in a Myller configuration, geometrically associated to the subspace: auto parallels, lines of curvature, asymptotes. Torse forming vector fields with respect to the Cartan Finsler connection are characterized by means of the invariants of the Frenet frame of a versor field along a curve, and the new notion of torse forming vector fields in the sense of Myller is introduced. The particular cases of concurrence and parallelism in the sense of Myller are completely studied, for vector fields from the distribution $T^m$ of the Myller configuration and also from the normal distribution $T^p$.

In this paper, electrical and physical characteristics associated with the ionization growth of soil under impulse voltages in a coaxial cylindrical electrode system to simulate a horizontally-buried ground electrode were experimentally investigated. The results were summarized as follows: Transient ground resistances decreased significantly by soil ionization. The voltage-current (V-I) curves for non-ionization in soil lined up in a straight line with the nearly same slope that is the ground resistance, but they showed a 'cross-closed loop' of ${\infty}$-shape under ionization. The conventional ground resistance and equivalent soil resistivity were inversely proportional to the peak value of injected impulse currents. On the other hand, the equivalent ionization radius and time-lag to the maximum value of ionization radius were increased with increasing the incident impulse voltages. An analysis method for the transient ground resistances of the ground electrode based on the ionization phenomena was proposed. The proposed method can be applied to analyze the transient performances of grounding systems for lightning protection in power system installations.
