Flyash from a coal-hed power plan1 is produced approximtcly 3 million tons m 1996 and causes the serious environmentalpmblem due to the disposal in the ash pond. Flyash is an accepted additive in concrete where it adds strength, sulfate ateresistanceand reduced cost, provided acccptablc levcls of unbunrned carbon are mmtmed This papzr describes to investigate thc technicalfeasibility of a dry triboelcctrostatlcp roccss to scparate unburned carbon h m f lyash into economically valuable produck Puliclesof unburned carbon and flyash can be impded positivc and negative surface charzes. rcapeclively. with a copper tniochargcr dueto dirferences in the work function values of thc particles and the tnbacharger. and cm he separated by passing thcm throuph anexternal electic field. Feasibility of utilizing unburned carbon residue in coal ash as a potential precursor for the production of activated carbon was assessed to seek for solution to recycle unburned carbon residue. The unburned carbon concentrate generated from the 4 stages of cleaner flotation has a grade of 87% carbon. The crystalline impurities in the concentrate included quartz and mullite. Unburned carbon had a low specific surface area of $10m^2/g$, which might be related to a high degree of coalification of domestic anthracite coal. Carbon particles were mostly porous and have a turbostratic structure. When 1g of carbon was activated with 6g of KOH powder, the highest specific surface area value of $670m^2/g$ was achieved. Low wettability of unburned carbon particles, which was resulted from high temperature combustion in a boiler, might cause poor pore formation when they were activated by KOH solution. The activated carbon produced in this study developed micropores, with an equivalent quality of general-purpose activated carbon made from coal. Hence, it is concluded that chemically treated unburned carbon can be used for water purification or an alternative to carbon black as it is.
The characteristics of flow and strength of CLSM depend on the combination ratio including the fly ash, pond ash, cement, water quantity and etc. However, it is very difficult to draw the mechanism about the flow, strength and the mixing ratio of each components. Therefore, the method of calculation drawing the flow about the component ratio of CLSM and compression strength value is needed for the valid practical use of CLSM. To verify the efficiency of artificial neural network, new data which were not used for establishing the model were predicted and compared with the results of laboratory tests. In this research, it was used to evaluate the learning efficiency of the artificial neural network model and the prediction ability by changing the node number of hidden layer, learning rate, momentum, target system error and hidden layer. By using the results, the optimized artificial neural network model which is suitable for a flow and compressive strength estimate of CLSM was determined.

Algal meal (cell) was produced from the solution of dairy cow wastes by fermentation of ulothrix. sp. and chlorella sp. Raw wastes mainly feces were diluted with ground water to give dry matter concentration of 0.5 w/v of wastes in 20 l amounts of ten plastic containers. Each containers were covered with plastic nets and vinyl films to protect from the insects and rain. Algea cells were harvested every 3 to 5 days and dried by sunlight and artifitial heat. Dried cells were ground by a feed meal, and analyzed and tested for the chemical composition of dry cell, in vitro DM and protein digestibility and the safty of algae. Protein contents in algae meals, ulothrix (29.37%) and chlorella (29.24%) were similar. However, chlorella contained lower Neutral detergent fiber (5.92%) than ulothrix(20,76%), and higher ash (32.86%) and calcium (12.62%) than ulothrix (28.66% and 6.09%) (P<.01). Ulothrix protein had higher for essential amino acids; valine, isoleucine and phenylalanine, than chlorella (P<.05). Algal fats contained high saturated fatty acids, C16:0 and C18:0, for ulothrix and high unsaturated fatty acids, C18:1 and C18:2, for chlorella (P<.01). In vitro digestibility of. ulothrix tended to be higher for DM, but lower for protein than chlorella. The weight gain and survival percentage were higher for pond fishes (loaches, Misgurnus sp. ) fed diet added chlorella meal than diets added ulothrix meal and control diet (P<.05).
