The difference in leaf bud flushing times of Quercus species and their hybrids was compared among the trees from natural forest, seedlings from natural pollination and artificial crossing. In the natural forest of the Hiruzen experimental forest of Tottori University, Japan, Quercus species flushed in the order of Q. crispula > Q. anguste-lepidota > Q. takatorensis ${\fallingdotseq}$ Q. serrate > Q. dentata. The flushing time of seedlings from natural pollination was in the order of Q. aliena ${\fallingdotseq}$ Q. crispula > Q. angustelepidota > Q. takatorensis ${\fallingdotseq}$ Q. serrate > Q. dentata. The flushing times of $F_1$ hybrids by artificial crossing were between those of parental species. From the result of interspecific hybridization, it is shown that the earliness of flushing in Quercus species is a genetic character considered hereditable to progenies.
This study was carried out to develope new zoysiagrass cultivar 'Senock' (Patent registration: 10-2003-0072018). Artificial crossing between collected lines of Z. sinica and Z. matrella (collected in South Korea) was conducted to develope F1 plant (CSM) which was cultivated at field for open self-pollination. Among the open pollinated progenies, CSM8 (Senock) showed superior performance in color and density rating. 'Senock' showed genetically dark green color, with medium leaf width ($3.1\pm0.17mm$), low plant height ($14\pm5.67cm$), and wide leaf angle ($67.3\pm11.1degree$). Height to the lowest leaf blade of this cultivar was $2.0\pm0.14cm$, which may allow low mowing height. Specific bands with primer number OPB7 by RAPD analysis can be used for cultivar identification.
This study was carried out to develope new zoysiagrass cultivar Semil' (Registration no. 1749). Artificial crossing between the collected lines of typical Z. matrella, NM1 (collected in South Korea) and the different ecotype of Z. matrella, ASm (collected in South Korea) was made to develop a F1 hybrid plant (NM1 ${\times}$ ASm). Among the 30 progenies, (NM1 ${\times}$ ASm)-1 (Semil) showed superior performance in density rating. 'Semil' showed genetically light green color, with narrow leaf width ($2.7{\pm}0.12mm$), and low plant height ($10.3{\pm}3.7cm$), Length to lowest leaf blade of this cultivar was $1.8{\pm}0.15cm$, which may allow low mowing height upto 12 mm.

This study examined Artificial Neurons Networks model (ANNs) for forecast flash discharge at Southern part of Thailand by using rainfall data and discharge data. The Sungai Kolok River Basin has meant the border crossing between Thailand and Malaysia which watershed drains an area lies in Thailand 691.88 square kilometer from over all 2,175 square kilometer. The river originates in mountainous area of Waeng district then flow through Gulf of Thailand at Narathiwat Province, which the river length is approximately 103 kilometers. Almost every year, flooding seems to have increased in frequency and magnitude which is highly non-linear and complicated phenomena. The purpose of this study is to forecast runoff on Sungai Kolok at X.119A gauge station (Sungai Kolok district, Narathiwat province) for 3 days in advance by using Artificial Neural Networks model (ANNs). 3 daily rainfall stations and 2 daily runoff station have been measured by Royal Irrigation Department and Meteorological Department during flood period 2000-2014 were used as input data. In order to check an accuracy of forecasting, forecasted runoff were compared with observed data by pursuing Coefficient of determination ($R^2$). The result of the first day gets the highest accuracy and then decreased in day 2 and day 3, consequently. $R^2$values for first day, second day and third day of runoff forecasting is 0.71, 0.62 and 0.49 respectively. The results confirmed that the ANNs model can be used when the range of collected dataset is short and real-time operated. In conclusion, the ANNs model is suitable to runoff forecasting during flood incident of Sungai Kolok river because it is straightforward model and require with only a few parameters for simulation.
The study aims are to examine the characteristics of artificial and natural hybrids between Viola albida var. albida (= albida, from below) and V. albida var. chaerophylloides (= chaerophylloides, from below), and to confirm if hybrids could be fertile and make populations in their native habitats. The 1st filial (= F1, from below) leaf shape produced by artificial crossing between albida and chaerophylloides was the same as that of V. albida var. takahashii (= takahashii, from below), and F1 bore also both chasmogamous and cleistogamous flowers. F1 seed number was 9.6 per cleistogamous pods, which was remarkably less than the average of 38.2 for albida and chaerophylloides, but the germination rate was all similar. The leaf type of self-crossed 2nd offsprings (= F2, from below) showed all leaf types found in the Viola albida complex, but the ratio of chaerophylloides leaf type was relatively low. Individuals whose F2 leaf type was restored to albida produced an average of 31.4 seeds per capsule, meaning that fertility was restored. On the other hand, individuals of F2 takahashii leaf type come to fruition a low average of 10.4 seeds per capsule, which is similar to that of takahashii. The results of crossbreeding experiment, where is their native habitats, were similar to that of laboratory. Both albida and chaerophylloids in Mt. Bulmyeong distribute extensively, but takahashii make a small population only in places where albida and chaerophylloides grow together. Summarizing the above results is suggesting that the speciation of takahashii was done by hybrid between albida and chaerophylloides, and these have been maintained with relatively small population by cleistogamous capsules.

The analysis of vehicular loads reflecting the domestic traffic circumstances is necessary for the development of adequate design live load models in the analysis and design of cable-supported bridges or the development of fatigue load models to predict the remaining lifespan of the bridges. This study intends to develop an ANN(artificial neural network)-based Bridge WIM system and Influence line-based Bridge WIM system for obtaining information concerning the loads conditions of vehicles crossing bridge structures by exploiting the signals measured by strain gauges installed at the bottom surface of the bridge superstructure. This study relies on experimental data corresponding to the travelling of hundreds of random vehicles rather than on theoretical data generated through numerical simulations to secure data sets for the training and test of the ANN. In addition, data acquired from 3 types of vehicles weighed statically at measurement station and then crossing the bridge repeatedly are also exploited to examine the accuracy of the trained ANN. The results obtained through the proposed ANN-based analysis method, the influence line analysis method considering the local behavior of the bridge are compared for an example cable-stayed bridge. In view of the results related to the cable-stayed bridge, the cross beam ANN analysis method appears to provide more remarkable load analysis results than the cross beam influence line method.
This paper presents concrete pattern recognition method to identify the strength of concrete by evidence accumulation with multiple parameters based on artificial intelligence techniques. At first, variance(VAR), zero-crossing(ZCR), mean frequency(MEANF), and autoregressive model coefficient(ARC) and linear cepstrum coefficient(LCC) are extracted as feature parameters from ultrasonic signal of concrete. Pattern recognition is carried out through the evidence accumulation procedure using distance measured with reference parameters. A fuzzy mapping function is designed to transform the distances for the application of the evidence accumulation method. Results(92% successful pattern recognition rate) are presented to support the feasibility of the suggested approach for concrete pattern recognition.

In the fields of pattern recognition such as speech recognition, several new techniques using Artifical Neural network Models have been proposed and implemented. In particular, the Multilayer Perception Model has been shown to be effective in static speech pattern recognition. But speech has dynamic or temporal characteristics and the most important point in implementing speech recognition systems using Artificial Neural Network Models for continuous speech is the learning of dynamic characteristics and the distributed cues and contextual effects that result from temporal characteristics. But Recurrent Multilayer Perceptron Model is known to be able to learn sequence of pattern. In this paper, the results of applying the Recurrent Model which has possibilities of learning tedmporal characteristics of speech to phoneme recognition is presented. The test data consist of 144 Vowel+ Consonant + Vowel speech chains made up of 4 Korean monothongs and 9 Korean plosive consonants. The input parameters of Artificial Neural Network model used are the FFT coefficients, residual error and zero crossing rates. The Baseline model showed a recognition rate of 91% for volwels and 71% for plosive consonants of one male speaker. We obtained better recognition rates from various other experiments compared to the existing multilayer perceptron model, thus showed the recurrent model to be better suited to speech recognition. And the possibility of using Recurrent Models for speech recognition was experimented by changing the configuration of this baseline model.
The local topography has a significant effect on the characteristics of seismic ground motion. This paper investigates the influence of topographic effects on the seismic response of a train-bridge system. A 3-D finite element model with local absorbing boundary conditions is established for the local site. The time histories of seismic ground motion are converted into equivalent loads on the artificial boundary, to obtain the seismic input at the bridge supports. The analysis of the train-bridge system subjected to multi-support seismic excitations is performed, by applying the displacement time histories of the seismic ground motion to the bridge supports. In a case study considering a bridge with a span of 466 m crossing a valley, the seismic response of the train-bridge system is analyzed. The results show that the local topography and the incident angle of seismic waves have a significant effect on the seismic response of the train-bridge system. Leaving these effects out of consideration may lead to unsafe analysis results.

Internal waves are computed using a ghost fluid method on an unstructured grid. Discontinuities in density and dynamic pressure are captured in one cell without smearing or oscillations along a multimaterial interface. A time-accurate incompressible Navier-Stokes/Euler solver is developed based on a three-point backward difference formula for the physical time marching. Artificial compressibility is introduced with respect to pseudotime and an implicit method is used for the pseudotime iteration. To track evolution of an interface, a level set function is coupled with the governing equations. Roe's flux difference splitting method is used to calculate numerical fluxes of the coupled equations. To get higher order accuracy, dependent variables are reconstructed based on gradients which are calculated using Gauss theorem. For each edge crossing an interface, dynamic pressure is assigned for a ghost node to enforce the continuity of total pressure along the interface. Solitary internal waves are computed and the results are compared with other computational and experimental results.
