PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance and fracture behavior of monolithic zirconia crowns in accordance with the preparation design and aging simulation method. MATERIALS AND METHODS. An upper first molar was prepared sequentially with three different preparation designs: shoulderless preparation, 0.4 mm chamfer and 0.8 mm chamfer preparation. For each preparation design, 30 monolithic zirconia crowns were fabricated. After cementation on Cr-Co alloy dies, the following artificial aging procedures were performed: (1) thermal cycling and mechanical loading (TCML): 5000 cycles of thermal cycling $5^{\circ}C-55^{\circ}C$ and chewing simulation (1,200,000 cycles, 50 N); (2) Low Temperature Degradation simulation (LTD): autoclave treatment at $137^{\circ}C$, 2 bar for 3 hours and chewing simulation; and (3) no pre-treatment (control group). After artificial aging, the crowns were loaded until fracture. RESULTS. The mean values of fracture resistance varied between 3414 N (LTD; 0.8 mm chamfer preparation) and 5712 N (control group; shoulderless preparation). Two-way ANOVA analysis showed a significantly higher fracture loads for the shoulderless preparation, whereas no difference was found between the chamfer preparations. In contrast to TCML, after LTD simulation the fracture strength of monolithic zirconia crowns decreased significantly. CONCLUSION. The monolithic crowns tested in this study showed generally high fracture load values. Preparation design and LTD simulation had a significant influence on the fracture strength of monolithic zirconia crowns.
The depletion of solid solution elements from matrix and the change of carbides during artificial aging of 2.25CrMo steel at $630^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The Mo and Cr elements were found to be depleted drastically in the early stage of aging. The change of carbides was confirmed by analyzing the XRD patterns of electrolytically extracted carbides. Four type of carbides, $M_{23}C_6$, $M_3C$, $M_2C$ and $M_6C$, were found to exist in the specimen before aging. The amount of $M_6C$ carbides increased with aging time, while that of $M_3C$ carbides diminished after short aging time.

The purpose of this research was to identify causes of damage of wax-treated volume of "The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty". As one of the efficient restoration methods, analyses of damaged state of reproduced wax-treated paper through tests of degradation of wax-treated paper under an artificial setting were performed, and in particular, differences between lightness and acidity were observed. On the whole, it was confirmed that yellow wax-treated papers were more stable than white wax-treated papers against artificial aging treatment, which is thought to be because the white wax-treated paper was more affected by a variety of substances interacting with paper than yellow wax-treated paper under artificially aged conditions, which were added in the course of refinement and processing operation such as decolorization and deodorization.
The aim of this study investigates the feasibility of scanning acoustic microscope (SAM) with high frequency transducer for material degradation. The test specimen was prepared by artificial heat treatment of Co-base superalloy. The high frequency 200 MHz acoustic lens was used to generate the leaky surface acoustic wave (LSAW) on the test specimens. The matrix precipitates coarsened with thermal aging time, and then grow up to several tens of micrometers. The velocity of LSAW decreased with increasing aging time. Also, it has a good correlation between LSAW and hardness. Consequently, V(z) curve methods of SAM using high frequency transducer is useful tool to evaluate the heat treatment effects on microstructure.
To confirm effects of natural and artificial aging of precipitate on thermal diffusivity and hardness, the studied Al-Mg-Si alloy were manufactured by gravity casting method with 0.6 wt% and 1.0 wt% additional Cu element. The samples were used for measuring thermal diffusivity and hardness. The addition of Cu, promoted by intermediates such as Q'' and θ'' phases, contributing to the improvement of hardness and high-temperature thermal diffusivity. The natural aging decreased the hardness of the Al-Mg-Si-Cu alloys with increasing time, but did not affect the thermal diffusivity.
The relationship between precipitation and coefficient of thermal expansion of Al-6%Si-0.4%Mg-0.9%Cu-(Ti) alloy (in wt.%) after various heat treatments were studied by the thermodynamic analyzer (TMA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Solution heat treatment of the alloy was carried out at 535℃ for 6 h followed by water quenching, and the samples were artificially aged in the air at 180℃ and 220℃ for 5 h. The coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) curve showed some residual strain and decreased with increasing aging temperature. The CTE curves changed sharply in the temperature range of 200℃ to 400℃, and the corresponding peak shifted for the aged samples due to the change in the precipitation behavior of the secondary phase. These transformation peaks in the aged sample are related to the volume of the precipitation of the Si phase as determined by DSC analysis. The change in CTE is mainly caused by the precipitation of the Si phase in the Al-Si alloy, and the size of the change occurs simultaneously with the size of the precipitate.

In this study, the effects of cryogenic treatment cycles on the residual stress and mechanical properties of 7075 aluminum alloy (Al7075) samples, in the form of a tube-shaped product with a diameter of 500 nm, were investigated. Samples were first subjected to solution treatment at $470^{\circ}C$, followed by cryogenic treatment and aging treatment. The residual stress and mechanical properties of the samples were systematically characterized. Residual stress was measured with a cutting method using strain gauges attached on the surface of the samples; in addition, tensile strength and Vickers hardness tests were performed. The detailed microstructure of the samples was investigated by transmission electron microscopy. Results showed that samples with 85 % relief in residual stress and 8% increase in tensile strength were achieved after undergoing three cycles of cryogenic treatments; this is in contrast to the samples processed by conventional solution treatment and natural aging (T4). The major reasons for the smaller residual stress and relatively high tensile strength for the samples fabricated by cryogenic treatment are the formation of very small-sized precipitates and the relaxation of residual stress during the low temperature process in uphill quenching. In addition, samples subjected to three cycles of cryogenic treatment demonstrated much lower residual stress than, and similar tensile strength compared to, those samples subjected to one cycle of cryogenic treatment or artificial aging treatment.
This study was carried out for evaluating correlation of aging level and deformation resistance of asphalt mixtures conditioned by artificial aging treatment. The specimens were made of the short-term aged loose asphalt mixture which was kept in a convection oven at $154^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, and then were artificially aged at $110^{\circ}C$ for 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours for long-term aging. Deformation strength ($S_D$) and large molecular size ratio (LMS(%)) were measured after short-term and each long-term aging treatment to evaluate aging extents of each mixture with aging time using GPC(Gel-permeation chromatograph) test. It is shown that the $S_D$ and LMS(%) were increased with aging time increment, and that LMS(%) quantity and $S_D$ have relatively good correlation each other. This study found that the aged asphalt mixture had better resistance against rutting and it was possible to estimate rutting characteristics of asphalt mixtures by using LMS(%) without a binder recovery.
A cold roll-bonding process is applied to fabricate an AA6061/AA5052/AA6061 three-layer clad sheet. Two AA6061 and one AA5052 sheets of 2 mm thickness, 40 mm width, and 300 mm length are stacked, with the AA5052 sheet located in the center. After surface treatment such as degreasing and wire brushing, sample is reduced to a thickness of 1.5 mm by multi-pass cold rolling. The rolling is performed at ambient temperature without lubricant using a 2-high mill with a roll diameter of 400 mm at rolling speed of 6.0 m/sec. The roll bonded AA6061/AA5052/AA6061 complex sheet is then hardened by natural aging(T4) and artificial aging(T6) treatments. The microstructures of the as-roll bonded and age-hardened Al complex sheets are revealed by optical microscopy; the mechanical properties are investigated by tensile testing and hardness testing. After rolling, the roll-bonded AA6061/AA5052/AA6061 sheets show a typical deformation structure in which grains are elongated in the rolling direction. However, after T4 and T6 aging treatment, there is a recrystallization structure consisting of coarse equiaxed grains in both AA5052 and AA6061 sheets. The as roll-bonded specimen shows a sandwich structure in which an AA5052 sheet is inserted into two AA6061 sheets with higher hardness. However, after T4 and T6 aging treatment, there is a different sandwich structure in which the hardness of the upper and lower layers of the AA6061 sheets is higher than that of the center of the AA5052 sheet. The strength values of the T4 and T6 age-treated specimens are found to increase by 1.3 and 1.4 times, respectively, compared to that value of the starting material.

However, after T4 and T6 aging treatment, specimens exhibited different structures, with hardness of AA6061 regions higher than that of AA5052 regions. Strengths of T6 and T4 age-treated specimens were found to increase by 1.55 and 1.36 times, respectively, compared to the value of the starting material.
