There are many types of circularly polarized(CP) microstrip antenna elements, which are used as a good unit radiator. Since an advantage of CP antenna is no strict alignment requirements between Rx and Tx system, the printed antennas with circular polarization are very often used in numerous satellite and mobile radio systems. In order to realize the broad bandwidth of 3 dB axial ratio and impedance of CP microstrip antenna, complex feed structure and tri-plate patch element have been researched. This paper describes a design of wideband microstrip cross slot array antennas with circular polarization. The proposed antenna is composed of an open-ended microstrip feed line as a feeder and a cross slot as a radiator for circular polarization. To realize the wide bandwidth, tri-plate structure are considered and cross slot is electromagnetically coupled with feed line. Optimum parameters of 1-element cross slot antenna are analyzed and designed by method of moments. These parameters are also applied to may antennas design considered the mutual coupling between radiating elements. Right hand circular polarization(RHCP) and left hand circular polarization(LHCP) of the proposed antenna are easily controlled by asymmetrical cross slot structure and slot position. In 1-element and 15-element cross slot array antenna, the good axial ratio of 1 dB below and the broad bandwidth characteristics of antenna are obtained.

In this paper, design of series-fed microstrip antennas with sum and difference patterns is presented for millimeter-wave applications. The antenna was designed to exhibit high-gain and low side-lobe level(SLL) below -20 dB. A conventional transmission-line model, Taylor and Bayliss distributions were employed to determine current distribution for sum and difference patterns. Moreover, connecting lines between microstrip patches were tuned to achieve an optimized design. The measurement was also performed to validate the designed antennas.

This paper presents a basic characteristics of 4-element circular array dipole antennas for 4-sector beam steering. The coupled integral equations for the unknown current distributions on dipole elements are derived and solved by applying Galerkin's method of moments. The parasitic elements have been used to increase the directional gain and the beam is steered electronically either by sswitching between the parasitic elements or switching the position of the active element. The parasitic elements are switched short-circuited or open-circuited as required to steer a directional beam. In order to verify the theoretical analysis, the radiation pattern was compared with experiments.
Receiver and transmitter monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) multifunction chips (MFCs) for active phased-array antennas for Ka-band satellite communication (SATCOM) terminals have been designed and fabricated using a 0.15-㎛ GaAs pseudomorphic high-electron mobility transistor (pHEMT) process. The MFCs consist of four-channel radio frequency (RF) paths and a 4:1 combiner. Each channel provides several functions such as signal amplification, 6-bit phase shifting, and 5-bit attenuation with a 44-bit serial-to-parallel converter (SPC). RF pads are implemented on the bottom side of the chip to remove the parasitic inductance induced by wire bonding. The area of the fabricated chips is 5.2 mm × 4.2 mm. The receiver chip exhibits a gain of 18 dB and a noise figure of 2.0 dB over a frequency range from 17 GHz to 21 GHz with a low direct current (DC) power of 0.36 W. The transmitter chip provides a gain of 20 dB and a 1-dB gain compression point (P1dB) of 18.4 dBm over a frequency range from 28 GHz to 31 GHz with a low DC power of 0.85 W. The P1dB can be increased to 20.6 dBm at a higher bias of +4.5 V.
The near-field subwavelength squint-less focusing system of a phased array antenna is designed and demonstrated by numerical simulation. The Huygens-Fresnel principle is applied to numerical simulation for calculation of the phased array antenna at microwave frequency. It was shown that beam squinting can be eliminated, utilizing true-time optical delay lines based on a chirped fiber grating in the proposed system. Furthermore, subwavelength focusing with high numerical aperture can be achieved by considering the fact that the array elements of the phased-array antenna can be treated as diffractive elements in an optical lens system. Also, side lobes can be suppressed by decreasing the distance between element antennas to less than half of the wavelength.

In this paper, three types of array antennas for 5G mobile devices operating at 28 GHz were designed, and their performances were compared. The isolation between antenna elements was compared based on $S_{21}$. The $S_{21}$ of dipole, slot, and patch type are -13.76 dB, -16.88 dB, and -11.47 dB, respectively, with the slot-type antenna having the highest isolation. In order to compare the beam coverage performance, several characteristics such as beam width and maximum beam steering angle were analyzed. The analysis shows that the slot type has the widest steering angle of $63^{\circ}$ while the patch type has narrowest with $36^{\circ}$. In addition, to verify the performance of the antennas in the actual usage environment of the device, antenna characteristics in talk mode and data mode were analyzed through simulation. The results confirmed that the slot-type array antenna is the most suitable array antenna element for 28 GHz 5G mobile devices.
Mutual coupling between antenna elements of a linear microstrip patch antenna array positioned along the H-plane including the effect of edge reflections is investigated. Simple formulas are presented for the estimation of the grounded dielectric substrate size with minimum mutual coupling. The substrate sizes calculated by these formulas are in good agreement with those obtained by the full-wave simulation and experimental measurement. The substrate size with minimum mutual coupling is a function of the effective dielectric constant for surface waves and the distance between the antenna centers. The substrate size with minimum mutual coupling decreases as the effective dielectric constant for surface waves on a finite grounded dielectric substrate increases.

Two planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) arrays are proposed as an alternative model to generate input and radiation characteristics of two orthogonal oriented circular loops, which has polarization diversity, but inherent mechanical instability of two orthogonal loops, in particular, in installation and operation conditions. Two $1\times2$ PIFA sub-arrays are orthogonally placed on a ground plane and two different feeding networks are applied to control horizontal and vertical radiation current flows for each sub-array, respectively. Equivalence of scattering parameters and radiation patterns between two antennas are validated by the available commercial simulator.

This paper deals with extending the variable natural oscillation frequency range of an active integrated FET oscillator. In this paper, we conform experimentally that the variable range of the natural oscillation frequency is expanded about three times in the oscillator controlled by the varactor diode. When the frequency difference is given to the oscillators in the two element antenna system, phase difference appeared between the oscillators. The 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-element patch antenna arrays are composed for the beam scanning experiments. All the above patch antennas show good phased array characteristics. The range of the scanning angle is about $30^{\circ}$, and the radiation power is gradually increased from $50{\mu}W\;to\;200{\mu}W$. The radiation patterns we sharpened as the number of elements is increased.
