  • Electronics cultural atlas is a typical methodology for the Digital Humanities. Since electronic cultural atlas could visualize various cultural information based on electronic atlas, that is an information visualization, users are able to make intuitive understanding on specific areas. Therefore, it can be effectively utilized in Area Studies and also helps users to understand comprehensively information on historic event in particular area with time information, because electronic cultural atlas represents a particular subject and time information with geographical information based on map. In other words, electronic cultural atlas may be considered as a specialized system of Digital Humanities for studying the Humanities and Area Studies. In this paper, we design and implement mediterranean electronic cultural atlas(MECA) for researchers of the Mediterranean area that has cultural hybridity formed the exchange of various aspects such as civilization, religion, race and language. In detail, a 'Digital Humanities Research Support System' is constructed to visualize research outcomes related to the Mediterranean area on Electronic Cultural Atlas and to use for researches.

  • This thesis, concentrates on marine collision risks of the area divided by cells. Using a gas molecular collision calculation model, a collision risk model is proposed. Collision risk is estimated by relative angle, relative speed, and ship's density in the cell. For one week, Automatic Identification System (AIS) data was collected and analyzed on the Busan North Port area. The results indicate a high-risk area at the sea route connection point in Busan North Port. It also shows that twilight is the time of day when most collisions occur. This means that the area is high risk due to the number of collisions and other dangerous factors related to twilight. Although there is still need to consider other risks such as grounding risks, the results of this study are useful to for plotting a risk map for the port.

  • It has been widely argued that Area Studies is in a critical condition especially in Australia, Europe and the US. However, in the Southeast Asian region, most especially Indonesia, we are witnessing the rise of Area Studies programs with the establishment of several such programs both in research institutions and universities. In this paper, I will discuss a few examples of Area Studies research on the emerging diasporic connections in Southeast Asia and reflect on the constitution of ethnic networks as "sites" where transnational identities are forged beyond state boundaries. Indeed, transnational movements of people have occurred and continue to happen due to particular events like wars and political turmoil, as well as for economic reasons. Today, we find many diasporic groups, including minorities, in the border areas of Southeast Asian countries and historically, minorities have been known for their movements in mainland Southeast Asia. If previously, the diasporic connections, especially with the homeland, had been very limited or even non-existent, today such connections have emerged across national boundaries. On top of this, economic and social networkings are equally on the rise both within and at transnational levels. It is, therefore, important to discuss the identity of diasporic groups and transnational networkings in the cases of two border areas in Southeast Asia.

  • Purpose: Recently, the operating unit remodeling compititon has been increasing rapidly in Korea, but there are no design infomation for spatial planning of sterile supply storage. Therefore, the propose of this study is to present area composition of the operating unit after remodeling. Methods: For literature review, the 6 studies and guidelines of operating unit(guidelines in the U.S, Australia, UK and Korea and 2 studies in Korea) conducted surveys and analysis. Room and space composition and zone of operating unit are redefined for this study. For obtaining area, to conduct masuring and calcuating of document of operating unit before and after remodeling in 3 cases. There are some patterns of plan in operaing unit by sterile supply storage. This study derived data for attributes of area composition of sterile supply storage. Results: The results of this study are as follows: First, Reviewing previous studies and Guidelines, for this study the suggested model was 5 zones(Operating zone, Support zone, Patient zone, Staff zone, Circulation zone) and redefined each room and space. Second, For infection control, sterile supply storage was provided to directly accessible to the operating room. Third, According to ralation of operting room and sterile supply storage, there are two types : 'double loaded type' and 'single loded type'. Sterile supply storage shall increase area of ciculation zone. Implications: This study can be used as primary data on remodeling of operating unit. In addition, it suggests that for infect control sterile supply storage is functional area.

  • Spatial plans, widely encompassing national or regional plans, are designed for an appropriate management of 'region',which is a complex of social, cultural and economic functions. Designing a spatial plan, therefore, is based on the understanding of the structure, function, and some other characteristics of the region concemed. Area stidies which have been conducted in the fields of geography, regional science and anthropology, have contributed a lot to establishing the whole range of the regional planning system. This is identified in three spheres: setting up planning units based on concrete area studies and appropriate regional divisions, dividing planning areas by the studies on goods and service purchase behavior, endowing specific functions to each planning area. Some suggestions have been made to intensify the connections between area studies and regional planning, which include consensus buiding, planning-oriented area studies by the standardized formatting and sharing of research products by commercialization.

  • Background: A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed to compare the post-recurrence survival with hepatic re-resection versus transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after initial resection. Materials and Methods: All relevant papers were searched via PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were pooled using a random-effects model. Subgroup analysis was performed according to country. Sensitivity analysis was performed in studies which clearly reported the recurrent regions, in moderate/high-quality studies, in studies published in full-text form, and in studies published after 2005. Results: In total, twelve papers were included in our study. Five and seven of them were of moderate- and poor-quality, respectively. The overall meta-analysis demonstrated a statistically significantly higher post-recurrence survival in the hepatic re-resection group than in those undergoing TACE (HR=0.64, 95%CI=0.52-0.79, P<0.0001). Heterogeneity was statistically significant and statistical significance remained in the subgroup analysis. Sensitivity analyses were also consistent with the overall analysis. Conclusions: Hepatic re-resection might provide a better post-recurrence survival than TACE for recurrent HCC after initial resection. However, considering the low quality of published studies and the potential bias of treatment selection, further randomized trials should be warranted to confirm these findings.

  • This is an integrative review paper of Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) simulation programs in the mental health area including the analysis of the general characteristics, contents, and the impact of the interventions studies. The keywords used to search the studies were "AR/VR" and "medical/nursing students". The author and a postdoctoral research fellow searched four electronic databases: Web of Science, PubMed, EmBase, and CINHA, and as a result nine studies met the inclusion criteria. Among the selected studies AR/VR simulation programs in the mental health area for healthcare professionals were found to be effective in clinical skills as well as for the interpersonal relationship and the stigma of mentally ill patients. Providing an opportunity to experience a safe and effective tool is important when educating health professionals and AR/VR simulation programs are safe and effective. Thus, standardized AR/VR simulation programs are needed to be developed for health professionals.

  • Small area estimation is a statistical inference method to overcome large variance due to a small sample size allocated in a small area. A shrinkage estimator obtained by minimizing relative error(RE) instead of MSE has been suggested. The estimator takes advantage of good interpretation when the data range is large. A semiparametric estimator is also studied for small area estimation. In this study, we suggest a semiparametric shrinkage small area estimator and compare small area estimators using labor statistics.
