Arc pressure is one of important factors in understanding physical arc phenomena. Especially it affects on the penetration, size and shape of TIG welding. Some researches were reported on the effect of arc pressure in low and middle current region. But there are not any research in high current region. The purpose of this study is to investigate the arc pressure distribution with mixing ratio of shield gas such as Ar and He gases. A Cu block with water cooling was specifically designed and used as an anode electrode in order to measure the arc pressure in high current region. Then, the arc pressure distribution was measured with change in welding current and mixing ratio of shield gases. The arc force was obtained by numerically integrating the measured results. As the results, it was shown that the arc pressure was concentrated at the central part of the arc in middle and high current regions when a pure Ar gas was used. In case of Ar + He mixing gas, the arc pressure was much lower than that of pure Ar gas. In addition, it was widely distributed to radial direction.
Famous artificial neural network (ANN) is applied to predict proper process window of arc welding. Target weldment is variously combined lap joint fillet welding of automotive steel plates. ANN's system variable such as number of hidden layers, perceptrons and transfer function are carefully selected through case by case test. Input variables are welding condition and steel plate combination, for example, welding machine type, shield gas composition, current, speed and strength, thickness of base material. The number of each input variable referred in welding experiment is counted and provided to make it possible to presume the qualitative precision and limit of prediction. One of experimental process windows is excluded for predictability estimation and the rest are applied for neural network training. As expected from basic ANN theory, experimental condition composed of frequently referred input variables showed relatively more precise prediction while rarely referred set showed poorer result. As conclusion, application of ANN to arc welding process window derivation showed comparatively practical feasibility while it still needs more training for higher precision.

This research was done on the basis of assumption that there is a relationship between welding parameters and geometry of the back-bead being a gap in arc welding. Multiple regression analysis was used as method for predicting the geometry of the back-bead. The analysis data and the verification data were used for the formation of multiple regression analysis. The method was used to perform the prediction of the back-bead.
Recently, application of arc welding to galvanized carbon steel sheet is on the increasing Ould in the fields of automobile and construction industries. In arc welding process, zinc is evaporated in weld pool, even under the appropriate welding condition and produce blowhole and/or pit. Zinc gas cause instability of arc and increase spatter and fume. This research is purposed to minimize the heat-input and the formation of porosities in the welded joint of the galvanized carbon steel sheet using variable polarity AC wave pulse MIG welding system. An appropriate welding condition which showed low spatter and good bead appearance was acquired by applying the AC pulse MIG welding machine to DC duplicated MIG welding with the solid wire. When oxygen gas was added to shield gas of MIG welding for galvanized steel sheet, arc length was increased and arc stability was improved. In the AC duplicated welding, the loss of galvanized layer was decreased as the amount of heat-input was decreased when the EN ratio was increased under the condition that average welding current was evenly set.
Tungsten Inert Gas(TIG) welding is today one of the most popular arc welding process because of its high quality welds and low equipment costs. Even if welding productivity increases with welding speed and current, this strategy is limited by the appearance of defects such as undercut and humping bead due to the depressed molten metal. The purpose of this study investigates the effect of He mixing ratio on the characteristics with high current and speed in TIG welding. The conclusions obtained permit to explain the arc start characteristics quantitatively and the maximum welding speed on stable bead formation with He mixing ratio for high current and speed TIG welding observed in experiments. Also through the relation of the maximum arc pressure and surface depression depth at high current and speed TIG welding, it made clear the mechanism of unstable bead formation.

A new welding machine which adopts zero voltage and zero current switching(ZVZCS) full bridge(FB) DC-DC converter is proposed. The proposed ZVZCS FB DC-DC converter uses auxiliary transformer to obtain ZCS for leading leg. It has capability of controlling load current even in short circuit condition and is suitable for arc welding machines. The power rating of the auxiliary transformer is about one 5th to one 10th of the main transformer. Experimental results for 10KW prototype are shown to verify the principle of operation.

Welding fabrication invariantly involves three district sequential steps: preparation, actual process execution and post-weld inspection. One of the major problems in automating these steps and developing autonomous welding system is the lack of proper sensing strategies. Conventionally, machine vision is used in robotic arc welding only for the correction of pre-taught welding paths in single pass. However, in this paper, multipass tracking more than single pass tracking is performed by conventional seam tracking algorithm and developed one. And tracking performances of two algorithm are compared in multipass tracking. As the result, tracking performance in multi-pass welding shows superior conventional seam tracking algorithm to developed one.

The feedback control systems of welding process using visual information can improve weld qualities. However, it is very difficult to get the visual information of weld pool since the light intensity of welding arc is much stronger than that of the weld pool. To explore the possibility of extending the capability of automatic welding machines, a study of a closed loop controlled welding system consisted of a GTA welding machine, a vision system, a stepping motor system and a digital computer was undertaken. Particularly, in this system, a CCD camera with a long wavelength pass filter was used to get a better weld pool image. Subsequently, an image analysis technique has been developed to measure the weld pool width. Using this weld pool width measurement, a colsed loop control system adjusted welding speed to maintain a constant weld pool width.
Welding fabrication invariantly involves three district sequential steps: preparation, actual process execution and post-weld inspection. One of the major problems in automating these steps and developing autonomous welding system, is the lack of proper sensing strategies. Conventionally, machine vision is used in robotic arc welding only for the correction of pre-taught welding paths in single pass. In this paper, developed vision processing techniques are detailed, and their application in welding fabrication is covered. The software for joint tracking system is finally proposed.
The electric arc welding machine with high-frequency inverter is studied in this paper which could make more saving in energy than conventional ones with inherent low efficiency. The inverter circuit has been already adopted to special welding machines such as MIG and TIG for improving operating performances so much. But this adoption has not be applied to conventional ac arc welding machine until now. The proposed technology for higher efficiency is to apply the high frequency inverter, together with noise-cut transformer. Overall output characteristics are investigated in aspect of cost and circuit performance. The proposed system is conducted practical experiments using PWM controller.
