Development of a Social Contact Survey Instrument Relevant to the Spread of Infectious Disease and Its Application in a Pilot Study Among Korean Adults

  • Objectives: This study aimed to develop a valid social contact survey instrument and to verify its feasibility for use among Korean adults. Methods: The Delphi technique was used to develop an instrument to assess social contacts, which was then applied in a cross-sectional pilot study. A panel of 15 medical professionals reviewed the feasibility and validity of each item. The minimum content validity ratio was 0.49. Thirty participants used the developed measure to record contacts during a 24-hour period. Results: After a systematic review, the survey instrument (parts I and II) was developed. Part I assessed social contact patterns over a 24-hour period, and part II assessed perceptions of contacts in daily life and preventive behaviors (hand hygiene and coughing etiquette). High validity and feasibility were found. In the pilot study, the 30 participants had a combined total of 198 contacts (mean, 6.6 daily contacts per person). The participants' age (p=0.012), occupation (p<0.001), household size (p<0.001), education (p<0.001), personal income (p=0.003), and household income (p<0.001) were significantly associated with the number of contacts. Contacts at home, of long duration, and of daily frequency were relatively likely to be physical. Assortative mixing was observed between individuals in their 20s and 50s. Contact type differed by location, duration, and frequency (p<0.001). Conclusions: The developed social contact survey instrument demonstrated high validity and feasibility, suggesting that it is viable for implementation.

방송사 건물의 친환경 설계 적용 요소에 대한 에너지 소비 분석 연구 (The Energy Consumption Analysis for the Eco-friendly Design Application Factors of a Broadcasting Building)

  • This study is expected to provide some basic data on how to apply more economical and efficient eco-friendly factors to reduce the carbon emissions. It has been scrutinized and analyzed the environmental factors of passive eco-friendly elements along with active eco-friendly elements as more efficient factors for energy conservation based on the case of a newly constructed broadcasting building with the green building certification in Sangam-dong DMC area. The first analysis was the energy consumption trends in Korea and the necessity of energy saving. Secondly, it was examined the energy consumption in the current status of the broadcasting building. Thirdly, it was looked into the correlation between the eco-friendly design application factors applied to the broadcasting building and the energy consumption types. As a result of the analysis, the application of fan and feed pump inverter along with ventilation system of waste heat recovery ventilation system were more meaningful in accordance with the economic feasibility of broadcasting buildings rather than economical effect of passive elements such as rooftop garden, reinforcement of building insulation. Also, the application of lighting control had the economical feasibility. Therefore, when it is intended to change the green building certification energy related evaluation items of the similar broadcasting building types, it is necessary to change the direction of adding weight to the more economical active element items in the future.

고강도 콘크리트의 성능기반형 배합설계방법 (Application of Performance Based Mixture Design (PBMD) for High Strength Concrete)

  • 본 연구에서는 Bayesian 통계법을 이용한 성능기반형 배합설계방법(Perfomance Based Mixture Design, 이하 PBMD)을 고강도 콘크리트 배합설계에 활용하여 요구성능을 만족하는 고강도 콘크리트 배합비를 찾는 것을 목표로 하고 있다. PBMD 방법은 Bayesian 통계법을 통해 얻어진 만족도 곡선을 활용한 성능중심의 콘크리트배합설계과정으로서 어떠한 조건이나 환경에서도 쉽게 적용이 가능하여 현재의 설계기준을 대체할 수 있는 하나의 대안으로 생각된다. 고강도 콘크리트의 여러 가지 재료 성능 변수들을 구하기 위해 수행한 여러 가지 실험들의 결과를 바탕으로 고강도 콘크리트 배합설계 시 PBMD 방법의 적용가능성에 대해 검토하였으며 지역에 따른 환경조건, 사용 가능한 재료, 적용 가능한 콘크리트생산기술 등을 고려하여 목표성능을 만족시키는 최적의 콘크리트 배합비를 구하는 과정을 PBMD 방법을 적용한 예제를 통해 나타내었다. PBMD 과정을 적용한 고강도 콘크리트의 배합설계의 현장 적용성을 검토하기 위해 ACI에 기술된 결과와의 비교를 통해 그 유효성을 입증하였다.

  • EMEP/EEA Emission Inventory Guidebook에 의하면 자동차 주행에 따른 총 대기오염물질 배출량을 Hot Start와 Cold Start로 구분해 산출하도록 하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 자동차 주행주기 특성을 감안하여 교통사업의 타당성 분석 시환경비용절감 편익의 현실적인 산정방안에 대해 검토하였다. 이를 위해 교통수요 분석모형(EMME/3)을 이용하여 분석영향권내 모든 링크단위의 교통량과 통행속도 자료를 활용하는 Tier 3 방식으로 환경오염 물질을 선출하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 방법론의 적용성 검토를 위해 현재 계획중인 철도 투자평가사업에 적용하였으며, 적용결과 환경부문의 편익이 기존 대비 약 30% 정도 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 향후 본 연구에서 제안한 방법론이 투자평가과정에서 적용된다면 철도와 같은 친환경 교통수단의 투자활성화에 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

전문가 인식 조사에 의한 공학 설계 능력의 정의 및 하위 영역과 요소 도출 (Abstraction of the Definition of Engineering Design Ability and its Subdivision and Element by the Survey of Experts' Recognition)

  • The purpose of this research is to consider theoretical points of view on a preceding research related to an engineering design and abstract the definition of engineering design ability, its subdivision and element on the basis of experts' recognition. To achieve this goal, various literature researches were carried out by examining domestic and foreign articles in journals, lots of dissertations, and books related to engineering design through theoretical consideration. And to secure the validity on the definition of engineering design ability, its subdivision and element through the theoretical study, a feasibility evaluation method by the experts was applied. And the feasibility evaluation of the experts was conducted through 2 stages. The major conclusions of this study are as follows. Firstly, based on the experts' recognition on the definition of engineering design ability, its subdivision and element, which were revised through the 1st feasibility evaluation and then utilized in the 2st one, the validity was confirmed, and the subdivisions of the engineering design ability were divided into 5 and the elements of the subdivision ability were 33. Secondly, the engineering design ability was defined as "the one to design a realizable product with consumers' demand fully satisfying, based on a knowledge application ability, thinking ability, communication ability, problem-solving ability, and teamwork ability to solve engineering problems." Thirdly, the subdivisions of the engineering design ability were divided as a knowledge application ability, thinking ability, communication ability, problem-solving ability, and teamwork ability.

산후 유방 마사지 손기술에 대한 다중사례분석 (Multiple-Case Studies of Hand-on Breast Massage Techniques used by Breastfeeding Experts)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to understand the hand-on breast massage techniques used by well-known experts in breastfeeding clinics. Methods: A qualitative multiple-case design was applied that involved a feasibility test. Four experts sampling qualitative data collected by observing participants and in individual interviews were analyzed by content analysis, linking data to the propositions, and cross-case pattern matching. This study explored differences within and between cases, and the possibilities of replicating findings across cases. Thirty-nine postpartum women participated voluntarily in the feasibility test, which investigated the usability of four massage techniques. Results: The four techniques showed considerable similarities in terms of the application of stimulation to the breast base and increased flexibility of the wired flexible body, which was the core mechanism underlying the techniques. The breast management strategies were consistent with existing practice guidelines with the exception of using cold cabbage to control engorgement pain. There was insufficient scientific evidence for supporting the massage techniques used by the experts. All of the techniques showed 100% education completeness, but application rates were higher for self-control-oriented techniques. Conclusion: The massage techniques applied by experts in breastfeeding were based on hypotheses and self-control techniques are feasible to apply in practice.

Simulation and measurement: Feasibility study of Tactile Internet applications for mmWave virtual reality

  • Numerous wearable technology companies have recently developed several headmounted display (HMD) products for virtual reality (VR) services. 5G wireless networks aim at providing high-quality 3D multimedia services such as VR, augmented reality, and mixed reality. In this study, we examine the application of millimeter-wave (mmWave) technology to realize low-latency wireless communication between an HMD and its content server. However, the propagation characteristics of mmWave present several challenges such as the deafness, blockage, and beam alignment problems, and interference among content servers. In this study, we focus on an environment that provides VR services in the mmWave band and introduce existing techniques for addressing such challenges. In addition, we employ a commercialized IEEE 802.11ad VR dongle to measure the actual data rate of an mmWave VR application and identify the degree to which the performance deteriorates when the above problems occur. Finally, we verify the feasibility of the proposed solutions through a simulation of several VR scenarios in the mmWave band.

연료전지 발전시스템을 이용한 축소형 철도차량 적용 선행연구 (The Feasibility Study on Small-scale Prototype Electric Railway Vehicle Application using Fuel Cell Generation System)

  • Fuel cell power system, unlike conventional energy sources, converts chemical energy into electrical energy through electrochemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen. In recent years, railway field as well as mobile fuel cell power system is being studying actively with development of hydrogen storage technologies. This paper presents the feasibility study on small-scale prototype electric railway vehicle application using fuel cell generation system. it is confirmed that proposed fuelcell-battery hybrid system shows good response characteristic about speed and torque based on design of parameter on system. Also as results of response for proposed system modeling, it show that powering mode and braking mode of system is controlled by switching devices of converters.

이중 제로터의 설계 및 응용 가능성에 대한 연구 (Design and Feasibility Study of Double Gerotor)

  • A gerotor set consists of two elements, an inner rotor and an outer rotor. The outer rotor has one more tooth than the inner rotor and has its centerline positioned at a fixed eccentricity from the centerline of the inner rotor. Although gerotors come in a variety of geometric configurations, all gerotor sets share the basic principle of having generated tooth profiles that provide continuous tight sealing during operation. The size of the gerotor is proportional to the number of teeth and the amount of eccentricity. The interior of an inner rotor with a large number of teeth has an enough space to include other machine elements. In this paper, the double gerotor mechanism, constructed by putting a small gerotor in the interior of a large inner rotor, is conceptualized. The double gerotor set is composed of an inner rotor, a planetary rotor, and an outer rotor. The inside profile of the planetary rotor corresponds to the outer rotor profile of the small gerotor, and the outside profile is the inner rotor profile of the large gerotor. In the double gerotor, the centers of the inner and the outer rotor are coincident because the eccentricities of two gerotors are balanced. The operation of a double gerotor is examined by analyzing the planetary motion, and a feasibility study for application of the double gerotor for hydraulic motors and pumps is performed. The double gerotor set has much application potential as a component of hydraulic systems.

Research on The Educational Courseware Based on VR Content

  • With the development of media technology, virtual reality (VR) technology is widely used in education, medical care, aerospace, entertainment and other fields. Among them, application in teaching courseware is a relatively new topic. Compared with traditional coursewares, virtual games visualized and extruded abstract teaching contents. Thus it strengthened teaching effects and expanded dimensions of learning. We hypothesized that virtual coursewares could increase users'sense of presence and enhance their focus. In this study, virtual courseswares were compared with traditional coursewares. At the same time, its feasibility and advantages of application were analyzed through literature researching, practical researching and statistical analysis from questionnaires. Furthermore, we designed a teaching system for VR coursewares and explored its performance in multidimensional and contextual teaching situations. It was found that Virtual coursewares have changed the boring traditional teaching methods. The teaching content was displayed in the form of three-dimensional images, videos and sounds through VR equipment, which effectively improved teaching efficiency. In addition, the feasibility of virtual courseware was demonstrated through factor analysis in questionnaires. Compared with traditional teaching courseware, VR coursewares can attract students' attention and improve learning efficiency. It provides a good example and is valuable for the research of virtual realities in education.
