Antifungal agents are used to impart antibacterial or bactericidal properties to commodities and various articles used in industries and can be classified into two broad groups i.e organic and inorganic. Inorganic antifungal agents comprise of Ag, Zn, or Cu, etc. These elements tend to exhibit high level of antifungal activities, non-uniform dispersion in substrates, and have poor properties in expensive and cheap adhesiveness. In this study, the organic antifungal agent was used for the purpose of investigating the antifungal activity of antifungal agent activated-cement mortar (AACM) on the aspergilus niger of various fungus which can be easily discovered in the interiors and exteriors of buildings. In addition, an experiment on the basic physical properties of AACM such as compressive and flexural strength was carried out. The conclusion of this investigation revealed that a dosage increase of antifungal agent exhibits a high inhibitory effect on the aspergilus niger, and although there is a slight decrease in the strength of AACM, the strength of AACM was almost equal to that of inactivated cement mortar.

It has been continuously noted that many sewage treatment concrete structures have deteriorated due to sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. There have been many reports on approaches to protecting concrete from this bacteria corrosion. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the inhibition of growth of a sulfur-oxidizing bacterium by a antifungal agent such as $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$, and the characteristics of polymer cement mortar using nickel type antifungal agent. First, we developed antifungal agents using metal nickel and $NiSO_4{\cdot}6H_2O$ to inhibit the growth of thiobacillus novellus, which is the sulfur-oxidizing bacteria in concrete. Then, ordinary cement mortar and polymer cement mortar using nickel type antifungal agent with various polymer-cement ratios, and antifungal agent content were prepared, and were tested for the antifungal adding effect, compressive and flexural strengths, expansion and leaching of nickel ion. From the test results, it was confirmed that the adding of an antifungal agent has an inhibition effect on the growth of sulfur-oxidizing bacteria at antifungal agent contents of 20 mM or more. In addition, the strengths and expansion of polymer cement mortars are not significantly changed by the addition of an antifungal agent. Therefore, the nickel-type antifungal agent developed in this study can be used to improve the durability of reinforced concrete hume pipe in the construction industry.
The actinomycete strain KH-6l4 possessed strong antifungal activity, especially antagonistic to the rice blast fungus, Pyricularia oryzae. Diaminopimelic acid (DAP) type and morphological and physiological characteristics, examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), indicated that KH-614 belonged to the genus Streptomyces. Antifungal agent produced by this strain was found to be most active, when the strain was cultured in the presence of glucose, polypeptone, and yeast extract (PY) medium for 6 days at $27^{\circ}C$. Based on the spectral report data, MS and NMR, the antifungal agent was identified as cyclo(L-leucyl-L-prolyl). According to the antimicrobial activity test measured by minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC), the cyclo(1eu-pro) exhibited the activity against Candida albicans IAM 4905, Mucor ramannianus IAM6218, Rhizoctonia solani IFO 6218, Aspergilus fumigatus ATCC 42202, Glomerella cingulata IFO 9767, Trichophton mentagrophytes ATCC 18749, and Trichophyton rubrum ATCC 44766, the order of MIC values were 50, 12.5, 5, 50, 25, 5, $5\;\mu\textrm{g}/ml$, respectively. Specifically, cyclo(1eu-pro) was one of the most effective elements against Pyricularia oryzae IFO 5994 with the MIC value of $2.5\;\mu\textrm{g}/ml$, thus indicating that cyclo(leu-pro) is a potential antifungal agent.
The saprophytic fungus Ulocladium atrum Preuss is a promising biological control agent for Botrytis cinerea in greenhouse- and field-grown crops. However, despite its known potent antifungal activity, no antifungal substance has yet been reported. In an effort to characterize the antifungal substance from U. atrum, we isolated an antibiotic peptide. Based on extensive spectroscopic analyses, its structure was established as a cyclopeptolide with a high portion of N-methylated amino acids, and its $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ chemical shifts were completely assigned based on extensive 1D and 2D NMR experiments. Compound 1 exhibited potent antifungal activity against the plant pathogenic fungus Botrytis cinerea and moderate activity against Alternaria alternate and Magnaporthe grisea.

Background: Posaconazole is a broad-spectrum triazole antifungal agent and the most recommended prophylactic antifungal agent for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) undergoing induction chemotherapy. In this study, we evaluated the status and effectiveness of posaconazole as a prophylactic antifungal agent in pediatric patients receiving induction chemotherapy for AML. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the electronic medical records of 36 pediatric patients with AML (between January 2013 and September 2017) at the Yonsei University Health System. Invasive fungal disease (IFD) was assessed as the primary endpoint of prophylactic antifungal effect. The secondary endpoints were incidence of fever, persistent fever despite the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics for 72 h, alteration of antifungal agent, intensive care unit admission, and death within 100 days. Results: Among the 36 patients, 18 patients used posaconazole, 12 were treated with suspension formula, and 6 of them were treated with tablets. Eighteen patients did not use antifungal agents prophylactically. The mean number of days of posaconazole administration was $26.8{\pm}16days$. IFD occurred in 2/18 (11.1%) patients in the no prophylaxis group and in 1/18 (5.6%) patients in the posaconazole group (p=0.49). Conclusion: Posaconazole is expected to be useful for the prevention of IFD in pediatric patients with AML undergoing induction chemotherapy. Prospective studies of the effectiveness of posaconazole prophylaxis should be conducted in more pediatric patients in the future.
Cayenne pepper used traditionally as hot seasoning and for antifungal agent in "Ganjang" soy sauce in Korea. However the correlation between its component and antifungal activity has been unknown. CApsaicine is known as hot component of cayenne pepper. Antifungal activity of capsaicine in 'Ganjang' soy sauce was studied and the results are as follows; 1) In 'Ganjang' soy sauce, antifungal activity of capsaicine were strong in same degree with butyl-p-hydroxybenzoate. 2) Antifungal activity of capsaicine were intensified by the addition of sodium chloride. 3) The antifungal activity of capsaicine was increased by lower pH (pH 5.5-4.5) of 'Ganjang' soy sauce.
Trichoderma harzianum is an aggressive causal agent of green mold disease on mushroom cultivation. Some bacterial strains isolated, from oyster mushroom compost in Wonju, were found to have in vitro antifungal activity against Trichoderma harzianum ATCC 6385, 6504, and our isolates Trichoderma spp. Y and G. Further in vitro antifungal studies on several strains of phytopathogenic fungi showed that all of 12 phytopathogenic fungal strains were significantly inhibited by the isolated antifungal bacteria in Petri dishes. Of these, KATB 99121 showed the broadest inhibiting effect and displayed as negative coagulase, negative sulfide production and rod shape. KATB 99121 was resistant to ampicillin, chlorampenicol, and kanamycin. Identification of isolates was determined by Biolog GN system, and KATB 99121 was identified as Photobacterium logei because of 96 probability, 0.65 similarity, and 4.97 disturbance. With electron microscopy, thin section of KATB 99121 strain revealed typical rod-like shaped cell (0.6-0.8${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$$\times$1.5-2.0${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) with prokaryotic structure and organization.

Peach tree gummosis is a botanical anomaly distinguished by the secretion of dark-brown gum from the shoots of peach trees, and Botryosphaeria dothidea has been identified as one of the fungal species responsible for its occurrence. In South Korea, approximately 80% of gummosis cases are linked to infections caused by B. dothidea. In this study, we isolated microbes from the soil surrounding peach trees exhibiting antifungal activity against B. dothidea. Subsequently, we identified several bacterial strains as potential candidates for a biocontrol agent. Among them, Bacillus velezensis KTA01 displayed the most robust antifungal activity and was therefore selected for further analysis. To investigate the antifungal mechanism of B. velezensis KTA01, we performed tests to assess cell wall degradation and siderophore production. Additionally, we conducted reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) analysis based on whole-genome sequencing to confirm the presence of genes responsible for the biosynthesis of lipopeptide compounds, a well-known characteristic of Bacillus spp., and to compare gene expression levels. Moreover, we extracted lipopeptide compounds using methanol and subjected them to both antifungal activity testing and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis. The experimental findings presented in this study unequivocally demonstrate the promising potential of B. velezensis KTA01 as a biocontrol agent against B. dothidea KACC45481, the pathogen responsible for causing peach tree gummosis.
Crack remediation on the surface of cement mortar using microbiological calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) precipitation (MICP) has been investigated as a microbial sealing agent on construction materials. However, MICP research has never acknowledged the antifungal properties of calcite-forming bacteria (CFB). Since fungal colonization on concrete surfaces can trigger biodeterioration processes, fungi on concrete buildings have to be prevented. Therefore, to develop a microbial sealing agent that has antifungal properties to remediate cement cracks without deteriorative fungal colonization, we introduced an antifungal CFB isolated from oceanic islands (Dokdo islands, territory of South Korea, located at the edge of the East Sea in Korea.). The isolation of CFB was done using B4 or urea-$CaCl_2$ media. Furthermore, antifungal assays were done using the pairing culture and disk diffusion methods. Five isolated CFB showed $CaCO_3$ precipitation and antifungal activities against deteriorative fungal strains. Subsequently, five candidate bacteria were identified using 16S rDNA sequence analysis. Crack remediation, fungi growth inhibition, and water permeability reduction of antifungal CFB-treated cement surfaces were tested. All antifungal CFB showed crack remediation abilities, but only three strains (KNUC2100, 2103, and 2106) reduced the water permeability. Furthermore, these three strains showed fungi growth inhibition. This paper is the first application research of CFB that have antifungal activity, for an eco-friendly improvement of construction materials.
The optimum conditions for the production of an antifungal antibiotic from Bacillus sp. YJ-63 were investigated. The oprimumized medium consisted of 1.5% soluble starch, 1% tryptone and 0.5% yeast extract, and temperature and initial medium pH for production were optimal at 35$^{\circ}C$ and pH 6.0, respectively. Production yield was significantly improved by shaking culture using 50 ml medium in 500 ml flasks. Under these conditions, the production of the antifungal antibiotic was growth-dependent, from 35hrs into cultivation to the stationary phase and endospore formation.
