  • DBS is utilized as very useful media in information-oriented society because it covers wide service area and provide high quality services. But DBS needs skill that can receive DBS signal at move. In this paper, it is considered a development of a device to receive DBS and design of a low noise downconverter that use tracking antenna to receive DBS at mobiles unit and ships which navigate in Korea peninsula coast. The structure of dual phase LNB is composed of LNA, BPF, oscillator, mixer, and IF amplifier. And for the position tracking, two input-output phase performed in phase. Measured results showed good performance that with respect to input signal 11.7 GHz~12.2 GHz, noise figure is 0.87 dBmax and conversion gain 62 dB, temperature characterization ${\pm}400$ kHz in respect to - 30 to $60^{\circ}C$, and phase noise -101 dBc/Hz in respect to offset 100 kHz.

  • As a technique for high-quality multimedia service in down-link, the transmit diversity schemes using a orthogonal space-time block codes were proposed. But if the number of transmit antenna is three or more, it was impossible to obtain full diversity gain because of the decline of spectral efficiency. Accordingly, the quasi-orthogonal space-time block code that not required a additional bandwidth was proposed. But using a space-time block codes, the transmit diversity schemes were verified over quasi-static and frequency non-selective channels. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the performance of OFDM systems, which a frequency selective channel equalized a frequency non-selective channel, adapting the quasi-orthogonal space-time block code, and compare they to the conventional orthogonal space-time block coded OFDM systems.

  • An array often has faulty elements in real operation. The faulty elements, producing no output or highly reduced gain than other normal elements, cause an elevated sidelobe level and fail to reject the interference signals in an adaptive beamformer. In this paper we have presented the beamforming algorithm for arrays with faulty elements. In the ideal case, an autocorrelation matrix computed from array output data is the toeplitz. However, the inverse of the autocorrelation matrix computed from array with faulty elements can not be obtained due to deficient values of matrix. To overcome this problem, an adaptive beamforming algorithm using the average values of the diagonal terms of matrix is proposed. The computer simulations have been performed to study the performance of the presented method. We have been able to solve the degrees-of-freedom problem that is the drawback of the previous subaperture processing technique.

  • In this paper, we was performed the interference analysis to determine an optimal coexisting criteria for the european digital video broadcasting service (DVB-T2) and the IMT-advanced LTE based TV Band Device (TVBD). The TVBD was equipped with the spectrum cognition method. To this end, we set the various transmission parameters, that includes the emission and blocking mask, antenna height and gain, transmission power and bandwidth, channel model etc. Based on this parameters, we were calculated the allowable transmit power, the number of TVBD and the change in probability of interference for the TVBD user operating in the adjacent channels of the DVB-T2 user. Also this paper presents how many TVBD users can sharing with DVB-T2 for spectral cognition performance.

  • North Korea has various ballistic missiles from short range to long range such as inter continental ballistic missiles. Short range ballistic missiles such as SCUD series are threatening to Korea peninsula. Therefore Korea is constructing various missile defense systems to protect country. Parameters influencing the received power from the target to the radar are transmitting power, antenna gain, carrier frequency, RCS(Radar Cross Section) of target and distance from radar to target. Especially, RCS and distance from target are not radar performance defined parameters but external parameters. Therefore radar deployment position that large RCS can be observed and target to radar distance should be considered in parallel to improve target detection probability. In this paper, RCS pattern of SCUD-B ballistic missile is calculated, received power is analyzed based on radar deployment position during ballistic missile trajectory and methode for optimum radar deployment position to improve target detection probability is suggested.

  • This paper proposes a prior maximum likelihood (ML) detection verifier which has an ability to verify if the zero forcing (ZF) detection results are identical to the ML detection results. Since more than 90% of ZF detection results are identical to ML detection results, the proposed verifier makes it possible to omit the computationally complex ML detection in 90% cases of MIMO signal detections. The proposed verifier is designed by using the diversity gain obtained from converting MIMO signal into single input multiple output (SIMO) signals. In the proposed method, single input multiple output (SIMO) signals for each transmit antenna are separated from MIMO signals after the MIMO signals are detected by ZF method. Computer simulations show that the true alarm probability of the proposed verifier is more than 80% and the false alarm probability is less than $10^{-4}$.

  • In this paper, we derive the achievable degrees of freedom (DoF) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Z-interference channels (Z-IC) with reconfigurable antennas at the receivers, assuming that channel state information is not available at the transmitters. We propose a new linear scheme to align interfering signals and to decode desired signals through the designed preset mode switching pattern of reconfigurable antennas at the receivers. The key idea of our scheme is to use interfering signals as a side information at the interfered receiver by being silent at the corresponding transmitter during some time slots. Consequently, it is shown that the reconfigurable antennas at the receivers can bring a DoF gain if the number of preset modes is greater than the number of RF chains at the receivers.

  • This study is to design FMCW radar transceiver of K-band which is used to detect and track approaching high speed targets with low altitude. The transmitter needs high output power due to small RCS targets and wide beamwidth of transmit antenna. Multi-channel receivers are required to detect and track targets by interferometer method. Transmitter consists of high power amplifier, waveguide switch, and frequency up-converter. Receiver is composed of five channel receivers, up and down converters, X-band local oscillator and waveform generator. Before manufacturing it, the proposed architecture of transceiver is proved by modeling and simulation using several parameters. Then, it is manufactured by using industrial RF components. The performance parameters are measured through experiment. In the experiment, transmitting power and receiver gain were measured with 39.64 dBm and 29.1 dB, respectively. All other parameters in the specification were satisfied as well.

  • In this paper, we propose the MIMO circular polarization feed network to enhance the communication performances from the previous $2{\times}2$ MIMO channel to $4{\times}4$ channel for Land Mobile Satellite communication system. The only possibility to extend the communication channel is to use the additional satellite because of the limitation of satellite spaces to install additional antennas. For overcoming this problems, we propose the MIMO circular polarization feed network to secure the isolation characteristics without the distant antenna space. The port isolation characteristics and each port impedance matching conditions are numerically verified and we suggest the $4{\times}4$ MIMO channel model of the proposed system and the performances are verified. The fabricated circular polarization patch antennas with the proposed feed network are measured in the reverberation chamber and 7~10 dB of diversity gain and 80 % increasement of channel capacity are obtained.

  • In this paper, we propose a cognitive beamforming scheme for coexistence of CR (Cognitive Radio) and IR (Incumbent Radio) systems. In order to maintain the priority of the IR in spectrum utilization the proposed cognitive beamforming scheme needs to have the CR not cause any interference to the IR systems occupying the same frequency band at the same time. In addition the proposed scheme has to provide maximum channel gain to the CRU (CR User) in a boundary of satisfying the former criterion. For this purpose, the proposed scheme does not cause any interference to the IRU (IR User), while the CRU is served without additional radio resource consumption. From simulation, we confirmed that when using the proposed scheme the CRU does not interfere with the IRU and there is little bit error rate performance degradation of the CRU as compared to that of the ideal beamforming system, which does not consider the IR priority.
