  • The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate ground-based experiment for the attitude control of spacecraft. A two-axis rotational simulator with a flexible ann is constructed with on-off air thrusters as actuators. The simulator is also equipped with payload pointing capability by simultaneous thruster and DC servo motor actuation. The azimuth angle is controlled by on-off thruster command while the payload elevation angle is controlled by a servo-motor. A thruster modulation technique PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) employing a time-optimal switching function plus integral error control is proposed. An optical camera is used for the purpose of pointing as well as on-board rate sensor calibration. Attitude control performance based upon the new closed-loop control law is demonstrated by ground experiment. The modified switching function turns out to be effective with improved pointing performance under external disturbance. The rate sensor calibration technique by Kalman Filter algorithm led to reduction of attitude error caused by the bias in the rate sensor output.

  • This paper presents the 3-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis method and correction of sensor distortion that is used by a motor speed sensor. The magnetic sensors are being expanded due to lower price than the other speed sensors such as resolver and encoder. Magnetic sensor generates sine and cosine waves when the motor rotates. However, the sine and cosine signals are distorted due to magnetic noise, which makes the angle error of the sensor, generated near by the Hall element. This paper defines an optimal design variables by using the Taguchi method to minimize output distortion of the magnetic sensor and permanent magnet. To enhance reliability of the magnetic position sensor from sensitivity error, assembly amplitude mismatch and the electrical angle, 3-Dimensional electromagnetic finite element method and correction algorithm errors were performed in due of the magnetic sensor in order to improve the quality of the initial production model.

  • Machining accuracy is closely related with tool deflection induced by cutting forces. In this research, cutting forces and tool deflection in end milling are expressed as a closed form of tool rotational angle and cutting conditions. The discrete cutting fores caused by periodic tool entry and exit are represented as a continuous function using the Fourier series expansion. Tool deflection is predicted by direct integration of the distributed loads on cutting edges. Cutting conditions, tool geometry, run-outs and the stiffness of tool clamping part are considered together far cutting forces and tool deflection estimation. Compared with numerical methods, the presented method has advantages in prediction time reduction and the effects of feeding and run-outs on cutting forces and tool deflection can be analyzed quantitatively. This research can be effectively used in real time machining error estimation and cutting condition selection for error minimization since the form accuracy is easily predicted from tool deflection curve.

  • This paper describes the remote tracking algorithm using measurements (azimuth, elevation, and slant range) of the radar ground station. Kalman filter model for noise reduction of the measured information is first derived by linearizing with respect to angle, angular rate, range, and range rate. And then a tracking algorithm is introduced to calculate the position of the vehicle during in-flight. The simulation results show that the algorithm is practical and effective enough tracking position of the vehicle in considerably less error.

  • The Average Coordinate Referenee System (ACRS) method is developed to reduce experimental errors in human locomotion analysis. Experimentally measured kinematic data is used to conduct analysis in human modeling, and the model accuracy is directly related to the accuracy of the data. However. the accuracy is questionable due to skin movement. deformation of skeletal structure while in motion and limitations of commercial motion analysis system . In this study. the ACRS method is applied to an optically-tracked segment marker system. although it can be applied to many of the others as well. In the ACRS method, each marker can be treated independently. as the origin of a local coordinate system for its body segment. Errors, inherent in the experimental process. result in different values for the recovered Euler angles at each origin. By employing knowledge of an initial, calibrated segment reference frame, the Euler angles at each marker location can be averaged. minimizing the effect of the skin extension and rotation. Using the developed ACRS methodology the error is reduced when compared to the general Euler angle method commonly applied in motion analysis. If there is no error exist in the experimental gait data. the separation and Penetration distance of the femoraltibial joint using absolute coordinate system is supposed to be zero during one gait cycle. The separation and Penetration distance was ranged up to 18 mm using general Euler angle method and 12 mm using the developed ACRS.

  • Hydraulic equipment have been traditionally used for constructing machines with high power density and durability. In particular, pumps and motors are considered essential equipment, and are consistently investigated to find suitable methods for optimal utilization of their characteristics. A kinematic analysis of a swash-plate-type piston motor model using the hydraulic analysis program SimulationX$^{(R)}$ to model a nine-piston motor and simulate a swash-plate angle with a low-pulsation and high-efficiency performance of the motor has been provided in this paper. Finally, along with the theoretical consideration of the stroke, the effect of changing strokes and notch shape (V, U, non-type) on the pulsation is simulated to analyze and determine the effects of reduction in pulsation. The optimal swash-plate angle and stroke thus obtained will reduce the trial and error in future design.

  • This paper deals with a systematic approach to neural network controller design for static VAR compensator (SVC) using a learning algorithm of error back propagation that accepts error and change of error as inputs, the momentum learning technique is used for reduction of learning time, to improve system stability. A SVC, one of the Flexible AC Transmission System(FACTS), constructed by a fixed capacitor(FC) and a thyristor controlled reactor(TCR), is designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator, as well as controlling the system voltage.TO verify the robustness of the proposed method, we considered the dynamic response of generator rotor angle deviation, angular velocity deviation and generator terminal voltage by applying a power fluctuation and rotor angle fluctuation in initial point when heavy load and normal load. Thus, we prove the usefulness of proposed method to improve the stability of single machine-infinite bus with SVC system.

  • Purpose: It is not easy to drive a rice-transplanter avoiding underlapped or overlapped transplanting in paddy fields. An automated guidance system for the riding-type rice-transplanter would be necessary to operate the rice-transplanter autonomously or to assist the beginning drivers as a driving aid. Methods: A prototype of guidance system was composed of embedded computers, RTK-GPS, and a power-steering mechanism. Two Kalman filters were adopted to overcome sparse positioning data (1 Hz) from the RTK-GPS. A global Kalman filter estimated the posture of rice-transplanter every one second, and a local Kalman filter calculated the posture from every new estimation of the global Kalman filter with an interval of 200 ms. A PID controller was applied to the row-following mode control. A control method of U-turning mode was developed as well. A stepping motor with a reduction gear set was used to rotate the shaft of steering wheel. Results: Test trials for U-turning and row-following modes were done in a paddy field after some parameters have been tuned at the ground speed range of 0.3 ~ 1.2 m/s. The minimum RMS error of offset was 3.13 cm at the ground speed of 0.3 m/s while the maximum RMS error was 13.01 cm at 1.2 m/s. The offset RMS error tended to increase as the ground speed increased. The target point distance, LT also affected the system performance and PID controller parameters should be adjusted on different ground speeds. Conclusions: A target angle-based PID controller plus stationary steering angle controller made it possible for the rice-transplanter to steer autonomously by following a reference line accurately and even on U-turning mode. However, as condition in paddy fields is very complicated, the system should control the ground speed that prevents it from deviating too much due to ditch and slope.

  • This paper deals with correction of frequency offset and analysis of quantization angle noise in the IEEE 802.1la OFDM system. The rotation phase per symbol due to the carrier frequency offset is estimated from auto-correlation of the short Preambles, which are over-sampled for the reduction of noise in OFDM signals. The pilot signals are introduced to estimate the rotation phase per OFDM symbol due to estimation error of the carrier frequency offset and the sampling frequency onset. During the estimation and correction of the frequency onsets, a CORDIC processor and a look-up table are used for the conversion between a rotation phase and its complex number. Being calculated by a limited number of bits in the CORDIC processor and the look-up table, the rotation phase and its complex number have quantization angle errors. The quantization errors are analyzed as SNR (signal to noise ratio) due to the quantization bit numbers. The minimum bit number is suggested to meet the specification of IEEE 802.1la properly. Finally, the quantization errors are evaluated through simulations on number of quantization bits and SNR of received signals.
