  • Beijing-Arizona-Taipei-Connecticut (BATC) survey is a long term project to map the spectral energy distribution of various objects using 15 intermediate band filters and aims to cover about 450 sq degrees of northern sky. The SED information, combined with image structure information, is used to classify objects into several stellar and galaxy categories as well as QSO candidates. In this paper, we present a preliminary setup of robust data reduction procedure recently developed at NCU and also briefly discuss general classification scheme: redshift estimate, and automatic detection of variable objects.

  • Red giant branch shape and the luminosity of horizontal branch on the (V-I)-V CMD are used to derive the metallicity the globular cluster NGC 5053. The metallicities of NGC 5053 derived by SMR method ([Fe/H]=-2.62$\pm$0.07) and the relation between[Fe/H] and $(V-I)_{0.g}$ ([Fe/H]=-2.50) are in good agreement with previously determined values. This result confirms that the morphologies of RGB and HB on the (V-I)-V CMDs can be good indirect photometric metallicity indicators of galactic globular clusters.

  • Using the detailed two-dimensional surface photometry of 39 galaxies, the observed profiles are decomposed into spheroid, disk and bar components simultaneously. From the analyses of decomposition parameters, the correlations among the three components are investigated to find the global property of barred galaxies. And the lens and ring components, and spiral arm patterns are also examined with Hubble type and decomposition parameters.

  • We have developed a new device, Plate-to-CCD Convertor (PCC), to conveniently digitize photographic plates in a relatively short time without losing any plate information (Oh et al. 1995). Using this device we have performed surface photometry of 12 early type galaxies. We determined relative orientations and scales to analyze PCC images. We also determined an ellipticity, position angle of the major axis, and $a_4$ of each galaxy to quantify the distribution of surface brightness. We checked the performance and limitation of this device by comparing the PCC images with those digitized by the ST microdensitometer and those obtained with CCD observations.

  • During the last four years, we have performed Sejong/ARCSEC Ca uvby survey using the CTIO-1m telescope aimed at obtaining Ca uvby photometry for about 50 globular clusters and selected fields in Baade's Windows. Our results show that Ca uvby photometric system can provide a powerful method to probe multiple populations in Galactic globular clusters. We will discuss the multiple stellar population in the globular cluster NGC6218 and NGC6752 as illustrations.

  • We present the results of near-IR band (JHK) photometric study for the old open cluster To 2. Combined with existing optical data, our IR photometry is used to derive the reddening E(B- V)=0.24$\pm$0.12 and the distance (m-M)o=14.6$\pm$0.42. Comparison with theoretical isochrones suggests the age and metallicity of To 2 are log t$\~$9.3 and [Fe/H]$\~$-0.3, respectively.

  • We have started multi-color imaging program of nearby galaxies since last year and present preliminary result here. We selected 12 nearby galaxies classfied from E to Sab type and observed in BVRIJHK' bands. Photomtric parameters such as isophotal diameter, axial ratio, isophotal magnitude were measured and observed colors were compared with theoritical model. We find a standard evolution model agrees well with observed results.

  • The global morphology and geometric parameters of 39 barred galaxies are investigated, by using isophote map and isodensity tracings obtained from detailed surface photometry with the Kiso V-band plates. The observed results are as follows: i) There is no strong indication that the ratio of bar length to disk size is correlated with Hubble type, except that the largest bars appear in the SBb galaxies. ii) The mean value of axial ratios of bars is $2.0{\pm}0.4$ and there is a trend that early type galaxies have smaller axial ratios than late type galaxies. iii) About 15% of early type barred galaxies(Sb0-SBb) have triaxial bulges.

  • With a large format near-infrared camera at the 2.2-m telescope on Mauna Kea Observatory, we performed J K near-infrared observations for the metal rich globular cluster NGC6712. This cluster lies near the galactic plane and therefore suffers heavy reddening. We present the near-infrared color-magnitude diagram and also derive the metallicity ([Fe/H] ${\~}-0.96{\pm}0.27$) as well as its distance modulus ((m - M) ${\~}13.42{\pm}0.12$).

  • Surface density distributions for globular clusters were obtained from photoelectric surface photometry (using centered aperture photometry). These surface brightness profiles were then compared with the theoretical surface density distribution of King's model. From the comparison of the theoretical and observed surface density distributions, we determine he structural parameters of the clusters (the core radius $r_c$, the tidal cut off $r_t$, and the concentration factor C).
