We utilize Sloan Digital Sky Survey DR7 spectroscopic data of ~380 star forming galaxies in the Virgo cluster to investigate their chemical properties depending on the environments. The chemical evolution of galaxies is linked to their star formation histories as well as to the gas interchange in different environments. We derived star formation rate (SFR) and gaseous metallicity (e.g., oxygen abundance) of star forming galaxies. Combining with GALEX ultraviolet photometry and ALFALFA HI 21 cm data, we examine the relations between SFRs, metallicity, and HI deficiency of galaxies in various regions of the Virgo cluster. We also quantify the degree of ram pressure around galaxy using the ROSAT X-ray surface brightness map. We discuss environmental effects on the chemical properties and evolution of star forming galaxies.
We present a comprehensive re-analysis of stellar photometric variability in the field of open cluster M37, using our new high-precision light curves. This dataset provides a rare opportunity to explore different types of variability between short (-minutes) and long (-one month) time-scales. To investigate the variability properties of -30,000 objects, we developed new algorithms for detecting periodic, aperiodic, and sporadic variability in their light curves. About 7.5% (2,284) of the total sample exhibits convincing variations that are induced by flares, pulsations, eclipses, starspots and, in some cases, unknown causes. The benefits of our new photometry and analysis package are evident. The discovery rate of new variables is increased by 63% in comparison with the existing catalog of variables, and 51 previously identified variables were found to be false positives resulting from time-dependent systematic effects. Based on extended and improved catalog of variables, we will review the basic properties (e.g., periodicity, amplitude, type) of the variability and how different they are for different spectral types and for cluster memberships.
We report the first detection of RR Lyrae variable stars in the Crater II dwarf galaxy, a recently discovered ultra-faint satellite of the Milky Way. Based on B, V time series photometry obtained with the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet) at CTIO, Chile, we have identified ~45 fundamental-mode (ab-type) and ~2 first-overtone (c-type) RR Lyrae stars by adopting template light-curve fitting method. Our preliminary analysis suggests an Oosterhoff-intermediate classification of this galaxy from the mean period of the RRab stars, <$P_{ab}$> ${\simeq}0.63$ days, and the location of them on the period-amplitude diagram. We discuss the properties of the RR Lyare stars in this galaxy.
In order to observe the contents of some minerals in Korean daily food, the lithium, sodium and potassium were determined by E.E.L flame photometry. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1) The lithium content was most higher (13. 8 to 16.8mg/100g) in sodium chloride, the contents of the lithium End sodium in each food were increased according to supplement of sodium chloride. 2) The potassium contents in garlic and bean paste were 137.6 mg and 186.3 mg per 100g sample, respectively, therefore these values were higher than the values in other samples. 3) The contents of lithium, sodium and potassium in rice, barley pressed and boiled rice lower than other samples.
We present an optical UBVRI photometric analysis of the poorly studied open star cluster IC 2156 using Sloan Digital Sky Survey data in order to estimate its astrophysical properties. We compare these with results from our previous studies that relied on the 2MASS JHK near-infrared photometry. The stellar density distributions and color-magnitude diagrams of the cluster are used to determine its geometrical structure, real radius, core and tidal radii, and its distance from the Sun, the Galactic plane, and the Galactic center. We also estimate, the age, color excesses, reddening-free distance modulus, membership, total mass, luminosity function, mass function, and relaxation time of the cluster.
We present a new tool for studying the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) and color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of galaxies and star clusters, BINARY STAR TO FIT (BS2fit). A key feature of this tool is that it takes the effects of binaries, stellar rotation and star formation history into account. It can be used to determine many parameters, including distance, extinction, binary fraction, rotational star fraction, and star formation history. Because more factors are included than in previous tools, BS2fit can potentially give new insight into the properties of galaxies and clusters. One can contact the authors for cooperation and helps via.

Although the theory of stellar structure and evolution is considered one of the most successful developments in astrophysics, there still remains a significant mismatch between theoretical stellar models and the observed main sequence of the best studied nearby open clusters. To ease the tension, empirical corrections to the color-temperature transformations are used as a simple, but practical way of overcoming the difficulty than directly examining stellar atmosphere models that have large theoretical complexities and uncertainties. I will describe our continuing effort to calibrate stellar isochrones using cool main-sequence stars in Praesepe, complementing our previous work based on the Hyades and the Pleiades, and provide an extensive test of our models using photometry of cool and metal-rich main-sequence stars in NGC 6791. Finally, I will discuss the implication of our results on the mass loss in NGC 6791.

We present the results of Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) fitting of far-infrared galaxies detected in the AKARI Deep Field-South (ADF-S) Survey and discuss their physical properties. Additionally, we perform a comparison between photometric redshifts estimated using only optical and both optical and infrared data. We conclude that our sample consists mostly of nearby galaxies rich in dust and young stars. We observe an improvement in the estimation of photometric redshifts when the IR data are included, comparing to a standard approach based mainly on the optical to UV photometry.
The size evolution of galaxies is one of the fascinating issues in these days. It is known that the size of a galaxy is closely related to other galactic properties, such as the central surface brightness, stellar mass, and redshift. However, we need to measure the sizes of galaxies precisely to understand those relations. We determine the sizes of early-type galaxies in the nearby clusters (z<0.2) using the GALAPAGOS. The GALAPAGOS is a tool which provides surface photometry for multiple sources, which make it fast and convenient to deal with huge image data. We run the GALAPAGOS individually to the Subaru/Suprime-Cam and the HST/ACS images for the same targets. We present and discuss the result of our size measurements for further applications.
Next to Paper I (Jeon 2009a), time-series BV CCD images of the open cluster M38 were taken for 4 nights on December, 2009. The observations have been carried out for total 27 nights. In addition to the 20 variable stars in the Paper I, the discovery of 44 new variable stars has been presented in this paper: $6{\delta}$ Scuti stars, $2{\gamma}$ Doradus stars, 18 eclipsing binaries and 18 semi-long periodic and/or slow irregular type variable stars. For the V photometry of the ${\delta}$ Scuti and ${\gamma}$ Doradus stars, multi-frequency analysis was performed using the Discrete Fourier Transform and linear least-square fitting. The period search for the eclipsing binaries and the semi-long periodic and/or slow irregular type variable stars was performed by phase fitting method. As a result, the periods for 23 variable stars among the 44 ones were defined.
