We present a photometric study of the globular clusters (GCs) in the Virgo giant elliptical galaxy M86 based on Washington $CT_1$ images. The colors of the GCs in M86 show a bimodal distribution with a blue peak at ($C-T_1$) = 1.30 and a red peak at ($C-T_1$) = 1.72. The spatial distribution of the red GCs is elongated similar to that of the stellar halo, while that of the blue GCs is roughly circular. The radial number density profile of the blue GCs is more extended than that of the red GCs. The radial number density profile of the red GCs is consistent with the surface brightness profile of the M86 stellar halo. The GC system has a negative radial color gradient, which is mainly due to the number ratio of the blue GCs to the red GCs increasing as galactocentric radius increases. The bright blue GCs in the outer region of M86 show a blue tilt: the brighter they are, the redder their mean colors get. These results are discussed in comparison with other Virgo giant elliptical galaxies.

대구경이 가능하며 가벼운 프레넬 렌즈로 10 해리 (18.53 km)까지 빛을 비출 수 있는 해상용 랜턴을 설계하고 배광곡선을 시뮬레이션하였다. 렌즈설계 프로그램으로 직경 250 mm와 300 mm인 프레넬 렌즈를 설계하였으며, 이 프레넬 렌즈의 groove 변수들을 최적화하였다. 해상용 랜턴에서 사용하는 전구의 배광곡선을 고려하여 이 프레넬 렌즈의 배광곡선을 조명설계 프로그램으로 계산하였다. 이 결과 전구를 최적의 위치로 정렬하였을 때 이 해상용 랜턴들의 최대광도는 각각 KS 규격인 720 cd를 훨씬 넘는 1000 cd(직경 250 mm의 해상용 랜턴의 경우)와 1300 cd (직경 300 mm의 해상용 랜턴의 경우)로 계산되었다. 그리고 전구의 정렬오차를 정하기 위하여 렌즈의 초점거리에서 벗어난 정도에 따라 배광곡선이 변하는 정도도 알아보았다.

구상성단 M30의 $20'.5{\times}20'.5$ 영역에 대한 CCD UBVI 측광 관측을 수행하여 색-등급도로부터 주계열 전향점과 색지수 $V_{TO}=18.63{\pm}0.05,\;(B-V)_{TO}=0.44{\pm}0.05,\;(V-I)_{TO}=0.63{\pm}0.05$를 얻었으며, 색-색도로부터 $E(B-V)=0.05{\pm}0.01$과 중원소 함량의 지표인 UV 색 초과량 ${\delta}(U-B)=0.27{\pm}0.01$을 얻었다. 측광학적인 방법과 분광 관측 자료를 이용하여 중원소 함량 $[Fe/H]=-2.05{\pm}0.09$를 구하였다. 관측된 M30의 광도 함수는 이론적 모델에 비하여 전향점 부근에 비하여 적색 거성열의 초과 현상을 보였다. Hipparcos 위성에서 측정된 삼각 시차로부터 거리가 알려진 준왜성을 이용하여 주계열 맞추기를 하여 거리 지수 $(m-M)_o=14.75{\pm}0.12$를 구하였다. 헬륨 함량을 구하기 위하여 R과 R' 방법을 사용하여 $Y(R)=0.23{\pm}0.02,\;Y(R')=0.29{\pm}0.02$를 얻었다. 성단의 나이는 적용하는 방법과 모델에 따라서 10.7 Gyr에서 17 Gyr까지 분산을 보인다.

Surface activity of the late-type supergiant component of $\zeta$ Aurtype eclipsing binary 32 Cyg has been searched in R and I passbands for 53 nights in the 1991 season. Atmospheric extinctions in these wavelength regions are made and a linear relation between the two coefficients has been found. All the data are standardized and determined the magnitudes and colors of 32 Cyg. R, I and color curves of 32 Cyg at the outside eclipse phase are presented.

CCD differential photometry was carried out for seven stars in the "New Catalogue of Suspected Variable Stars" in order to discover new short-period pulsating variables such as low and high amplitude $\delta$Scuti stars and RR Lyrate stars. It was found that NSV1132, NSV3031, and NSV5119 are RRs, Irregular, and low amplitude $\delta$Scuti type variables respectively.

We discuss a new IRAS Faint Source Catalog galaxy redshift catalogue (RIFSCz) which incorporates data from Galex, SDSS, 2MASS, WISE, AKARI and Planck. AKARI fluxes are consistent with photometry from other far infrared and submillimetre missions provided an aperture correction is applied. Results from the Hermes-SWIRE survey in Lockman are also discussed briefly, and the strong contrast between the galaxy populations selected at 60 and $500{\mu}m$ is summarized.

To derive the metallicities of M3 and M5, we used the shape of red giant branch, horizontal branch magnitude, and red giant branch bump on the (V-I)-V color magnitude diagrams. [Fe/H] values ranging -1.46 ∼ -1.69 for M3, and -1.00 ∼ -1.49 for M5 are estimated. These values are in good agreements with the previously determined ones. This result leads the morphologies of red giant and horizontal branches on the (V-I)-V color magnitude diagrams can be good indirect metallicity indicators of galactic globular clusters.

Long period eclipsing binary 32 Cygni was photometrically observed in 1992 at Yonsei University Observatory. Instrumental differential magnitude and standardized magnitude of this star show some intrinsic light variations. Some possible explanations will be discussed. BVRI photometric observations show that 30 Cyg may be a variable star. A further monitoring of 30 Cyg is therefore called for justification of such evidences.
