  • We investigate the long-term spatial drift of the center and the temporal variation of the shutter delay time map of Y4KCam mounted on the CTIO 1.0m telescope. We have collected shutter delay time maps for over 7 years as a part of long-term survey program. We find that the center of the shutter delay time map can drift up to $450{\mu}m$ on the CCD. This effect can result in a small amount of error unless the proper shutter delay time correction, but it does not appear to cause any significant problems in photometric measurements. We obtain the mean value of the shutter delay time of $69.1{\pm}0.9$ msec and find no temporal variation of the shutter delay time of Y4KCam for over 7 years, indicative of the mechanical stability of the shutter. We suggest that using a master shutter delay time correction frame would be sufficient to achieve high precision photometry and this does not add up errors more than ~ 2.5 mmag across the CCD frame with exposure times longer than 1 sec.

  • We investigate the role of galaxy environment in the evolution of individual galaxies through the AKARI observations of the merging galaxy cluster A2255. MIR diagnostics using N3-S11 colors are adopted to select star-forming galaxies and galaxies in transition between star-forming galaxies and quiescent galaxies. We do not find particular enhancement of star formation rates as a function of galaxy environment, reflected in cluster-centric distance and local surface density of galaxies. Instead, the locations of intermediate MIR-excess galaxies (-1.2 < N3 - S11 < 0.2) show that star-forming galaxies are transformed into passive galaxies in the substructures of A2255, where the local surface density of galaxies is relatively high.

  • UBVI CCD photometry is obtained for the Ruprecht 93 (Ru 93)region. We are unable to confirm the existence of an intermediate-age open cluster in Ru 93 from the spatial distribution of blue stars. On the other hand, we find two young star groups in the observed field: the nearer one (Ru 93 group) comprises the field young stars in the Sgr-Car arm at $d{\approx}2.1$ kpc, while the farther one (WR 37 group) is the young stars around WR 37 at $d{\approx}4.8$ kpc. We derive an abnormal extinction law ($R_V$ = 3.5) in the Ruprecht 93 region.

  • In our recent investigation (Lim et al. 2015), we have shown that the combination of narrow-band Ca photometry and low-resolution spectroscopy can effectively search for globular clusters (GCs) with supernovae (SNe) enrichments. We apply this technique to the metal-poor bulge GC NGC 6273 and find two distinct subpopulations having different light and heavy element abundances. Our result suggests that NGC 6273 was massive enough to retain SNe ejecta, which would place this cluster in the growing group of GCs with Galactic building block characteristics, such as ${\omega}$ Centauri and M22.

  • We present intermediate-band spectral energy distribution (SED) of QSO candidates in Leo Triplet field. Leo Triplet is composed of three galaxies, NGC3623, 3627, and 3628 which appear to interact with each other. Based on X -ray information, Arp et al. (2002) selected QSO candidates and suggested that the known QSOs and these candidates might belong to the triplet system in spite of their apparent high redshift. Our photometry is based on BATC survey data, which consist of hundreds of 15 intermediate-band images. In order to derive SED of high signal to noise ratio for every sources in the field, we have combined images of the same filter and matched the sources in the combined images. QSO candidates were identified based on the shape of derived SED curves. We compare our results with Arp et al. (2002)'s QSO candidates.

  • VV Cep-type long period spectroscopic-eclipsing binary AZ Cas has been observed for five years, 1985 Oct~1990 Feb, UBV at the Ilsan Station of Yonsei University Observatory. A total of 431 observations (U=129, B=142 and V=160) are made for 86 nights. Instrumental differential UBV and B-V light curves made with these observations cover phases nearly a half of one period. There is no appreciable light variation in V but in other two passbands a gradual decrease of the brightness is clearly noticed. The loss of light in B resulted in a reddening in $\Delta(B-V)$ by + 0.06 at phases between 0.4~0.5 as compared with that of at phase ~0.1. This intrinsic reddening arouses a question why at the orbital phase of the transit of a hot star in front of a cool M supergiant the heating of the facing hemisphere of M supergiant by the strong radiation from the B stat is absent. With regard to this unusual situation we propose a hypothesis that a large amount of gas stream of low temperature ejected from the surface of M supergiant component towards the B star dominates the brightness of B star and the reflection effect.

  • In the region of the open cluster M48 (NGC 2548), time-series BV CCD images were taken for 22 nights from February 28 in 2008 to March 17 in 2011. From this observation, we found 10 new variable stars. They include five eclipsing binaries, an RR Lyrae, two ${\delta}$ Scuti, and two semi-periodic and/or slow irregular type variable stars. We fail to find the member stars of the open cluster among the 10 variable stars.

  • Multi-wavelength observing has been particularly fruitful in cool star research. There have been some well-observed examples, eg AB Dor, though ambiguity remains. This raises issues of data information content and model parameter determinacy, which are examined firstly in an optical context. We then widen the discussion to show how multi-site and multi-wavelength data can be combined to point to better constrained models. Particular cases, involving near-simultaneous radiometry and photometry, are discussed to clarify such modelling.

  • Recent surveys have shown that many early-type galaxies have signatures of ongoing or recent star formation (RSF). These RSF galaxies show blue integrated UV-optical colours that set them aside in the NUV integrated colour-magnitude relation. Among them, NGC 4150 has been observed using the Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3) on board the Hubble Space Telescope to inspect the galaxy with higher spatial resolution. In the WFC3 data, the galaxy reveals ubiquitous near-UV emission and remarkable dusty substructure. Our analysis shows this galaxy to lie in the near-UV green valley, and its pixel-by-pixel photometry exhibits a narrow range of UV-optical colours that are similar to those of nearby E+A (post-starburst) galaxies, and lie between those of M83 (an actively star-forming spiral) and the local quiescent early-type galaxy population. This work reaffirms our hypothesis that minor mergers play a significant role in the evolution of early-type galaxies at late epochs.

  • Long-slit spectra, covering the wavelength range 4050~5150$\AA$, have been used to investigate the radial behavior of absorption line features (G4300, Fe4383, Ca4455, Fe4531, Fe4668, and H$\beta$) along the major and minor axes of the bulge of M104. The heliocentric recession velocity of M104 has been derived as 1260$\pm$190${kms}^{-1}$. The strength of a number of metal absorption lines is decreasing with increasing radius, and the minor axis shows much steeper radial line gradients than the major axis. Line index of H$\beta$ has an opposite trend to other metal lines, i.e., increasing outward. The results in this paper imply that the properties of absorption line index distribution in M104 bulge have in many aspects similar trends to those of elliptical galaxies.
