The latest generation of tram is low-floor design, various nations in europe and japan have developed battery driven hybrid trams that combine battery and wiring. Battery driven tram system is achieved by contactless power supply system, thus system is needed high efficiency, high power and low weight traction motor for maximization of energy efficiency. Research from abroad is still in induction motor(IM) application, and it is not meet the efficiency and the power per unit volume in IPMSM. In this paper, we design compare IM and IPMSM to apply battery driven tram, and then compare these motors. To design the motor, we estimate the loading condition at first. Loading condition includes rolling resistance, air-drag resistance, and slope resistance. Based on the loading condition by estimation, we determine the power and compute rated voltage and rated current. In this paper, voltage is limited by battery voltage level. As a result, volume about IM is 1.98 times bigger than IPMSM under same condition. Even though IPMSM is bigger than IM in power density per volume, we consider more factors for actual application because there are demagnetization of permanent magnet in IPMSM and so on by external environment conditions.
Nowadays, embedded software development using the MATLAB/Simulink system is gradually emerging. Studies generating the parts of embedded S/W in a Rapid Prototype are presented. In this paper, a method to generate the entire embedded S/W of enhanced AC motor control is proposed. High performance motor control could not be achieved with the basic Simulink library and RAppID Toolbox library as it does not have PWM based Interrupt, an ASAC (Analog Sensing for AC Motors) function and other special functions of the Freescale MPC555x. Consequently, the required libraries for enhanced AC motor control are created by Legacy code tool, TLC (Target Language Compiler) and S-Function (System-Function) of MATLAB/ Simulink and utilized in the Rapid Prototype. Motor control performance and execution time are compared automatically to the generated-code S/W with the hand coded S/W. The IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and MPC5553 board that were designed as the AC motor controller for hybrid electrical vehicle are used for the test. The performances meet the requirements and satisfactory results are acquired.
In this paper, a nonlinear controller is proposed to track the desired velocity and to cancel sinusoidal disturbances. The proposed method consists of a velocity tracking controller and internal model principles (IMPs). For the design of the velocity tracking controller, mechanical and electrical dynamic controllers are independently designed. For the mechanical dynamics, the velocity tracking controller generates the desired quadrature current to track the desired velocity. The current tracking controller is designed to guarantee the desired quadrature current and to regulate the direct current. Therefore, the proposed velocity tracking controller has a field-oriented control. Since the controllers of the mechanical and electrical dynamics are independently designed, the stability of the closed-loop system is demonstrated using passivity. Since both the cogging torque and DC current errors act as sinusoidal disturbances in PMSM, we use four add-on type IMPs that preserve the merits and performance of the pre-designed controller without sacrificing the closed-loop stability. The performance of the proposed method is validated via simulations.
The inverter is an essential part of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive systems. The performance of an inverter is greatly influenced by its modulation strategy. Using a proper management of modulation strategies can guarantee high performance from a PMSM under various speed conditions. Switching between modulations is a pivotal technique that determines the performance of a PMSM. Most works on hybrid methods focus on two-level induction motors drive systems. In this paper, in order to improve the performance of PMSMs under various speed conditions, a hybrid method of a pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme based on a neutral-point-clamped (NPC) three level topology was proposed. This hybrid PWM modulation comprised space vector PWM (SVPWM) and selective harmonic elimination PWM (SHEPWM). Under low speed conditions, the SVPWM is employed to cause the PMSM to start smoothly, and to obtain a rapid response from the control system. Under high speed conditions, the SHEPWM is employed to reduce the switching frequency and to eliminate particular current harmonics. Moreover, the harmonic characteristics of different modulations are analyzed to obtain a smooth transition between the SHEPWM and the SVPWM. Experimental and simulation results indicated the effectiveness of the proposed control method.
A model for calculating structure interacted mechanics is proposed. A structural interaction model and controller design based on tuned mass damping (TMD) was developed to control the induced vibration. A key point is to introduce a new analytical model to evaluate the properties of the TMD that recognizes the motion-dependent nonlinear response observed in the simulations. Aiming at the problem of increased current harmonics and low efficiency of permanent magnet synchronous motors for electric vehicles due to dead time effect, a dead time compensation method based on neural network filter and current polarity detection is proposed. Firstly, the DC components and the higher harmonic components of the motor currents are obtained by virtue of what the neural network filters and the extracted harmonic currents are adjusted to the required compensation voltages by virtue of what the neural network filters. Then, the extracted DC components are used for current polarity dead time compensation control to avert the false compensation when currents approach zero. The neural network filter method extracts the required compensation voltages from the speed component and the current polarity detection compensation method obtains the required compensation voltages by discriminating the current polarity. The combination of the two methods can more precisely compensate the dead time effect of the control system to improve the control performance. Furthermore, based on the relaxed method, the intelligent approach of stability criterion can be regulated appropriately and the artificial TMD was found to be effective in reducing cross-wind vibrations.
This paper presents the 3-dimensional electromagnetic field analysis method and correction of sensor distortion that is used by a motor speed sensor. The magnetic sensors are being expanded due to lower price than the other speed sensors such as resolver and encoder. Magnetic sensor generates sine and cosine waves when the motor rotates. However, the sine and cosine signals are distorted due to magnetic noise, which makes the angle error of the sensor, generated near by the Hall element. This paper defines an optimal design variables by using the Taguchi method to minimize output distortion of the magnetic sensor and permanent magnet. To enhance reliability of the magnetic position sensor from sensitivity error, assembly amplitude mismatch and the electrical angle, 3-Dimensional electromagnetic finite element method and correction algorithm errors were performed in due of the magnetic sensor in order to improve the quality of the initial production model.
Recently, the stationary discontinuous armature Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor(PM-LSM) was suggested as a driving source for long-distance transportation system. However, as these motors arrange armatures discontinuously, there occurs an edge which causes the cogging force. This works as a factor that bothers acceleration and deceleration that takes place when movers enter into and eject from the armatures. Therefore, installation of auxiliary teeth on the edge of armature of PM-LSM is suggested in order to reduce cogging force caused by the edge when the armature is placed in a discontinuous arrangement. But length of auxiliary teeth can be changed if install it with auxiliary pole in order to decrease more and more edge cogging force. On this, in the study, decided on a design variable of auxiliary teeth and used 2-D FEA, and examined edge cogging force characteristic along this in order to grasp length of auxiliary teeth changed according to installation positions of an auxiliary pole.

The back emf harmonics of a permanent magnet (PM) synchronous motor is a major source of torque ripple. For torque control applications including column fitted MDPS (motor driven power steering) systems, it is essential to reduce the mechanical vibrations due to torque ripples at low speeds. In this paper, a torque ripple reduction algorithm for interior PM synchronous motors is proposed. The harmonic currents that cancel the $6^{th}$ order torque harmonic are added to the nominal dq currents for MTPA (maximum torque per ampere) operation. The compensated harmonic currents are derived from flux linkage harmonics based on a FFT analysis of the back emf harmonics. Simulation and experimental results verify that the $6^{th}$ order torque harmonic and THD of the torque ripple are reduced by compensating the dq harmonic currents.
In industry, A pallet truck is drived mainly by d.c motor, because it use to battery for input power. However, d.c motor has a brush, this is the disadvantage of the d.c motor for a pallet truck. Though a brushless d.c motor has a permanent magnet, it is for low torque. Switched reluctance motors(SRM) have the advantage a high torque/weight ratio, as the large reluctance torque is made by salient poles of both start and rotor, and a high reliability, this paper design the shape of the switched reluctance motor that will replace a d.c motor for A pallet truck. First of all, designed parameter of SRM, outer diameter, diameter of rotor and stock length, from the outputr equation considering electric loading and magnetic loading. Next, design diameter of stator and rotor, depth of slot pole width, air gap as inner size of motor. The design of SRM certify the torque, the efficiency and the output power by a simulation.
