  • The load transfer mechanism of hybrid model of soil-nailing and compression anchor is studied in this paper. The hybrid model is composed of an anchor bar (installed at the tip) with two PC strands and a steel bar. It can make active behavior of skin friction by applying the pre-stress. In this paper, the load transfer mechanisms of soil-nailings, compression anchors, and hybrid models, respectively, are obtained from skin friction theory and load transfer theory. Field pullout tests are performed to identify the load transfer mechanism and experimental results are compared with analytical solution. In case of soil-nailings, the tension load is transferred from face to tip, however, in case of compression anchors, the compression load is transferred from tip to face. The experimental behavior of the hybrid model is similar to that of compression anchor when only pre-stress is applied. If the pullout test is performed by simultaneously pulling out the anchor and the nail, the compression load is dominant at the tip and tension load is dominant at the face. The load transfer mechanism of the hybrid model shows the combined behavior of soil-nailings with compression anchors.

  • Eighty-nine shoulders in eighty-eight patients with traumatic unilateral anterior shoulder instability were evaluated for Rowe and UCLA scores, recurrence, return to activity, and range of motion by an independent examiner at an average of 39 months after either arthroscopic or open Bankart repair using suture anchors. The arthroscopic technique included a minimum of 3 anchors, and a routine incorporation of capsular plication and proximal shift. Twentysix shoulders(86.6%) out of thirty in the open Bankart repair group had excellent or good results while fiftyfour(91.5%) of the fifty-nine shoulders with arthroscopic Bankart repair had excellent or good results. The arthroscopic group revealed significantly better results in the Rowe(p=.041) and UCLA scores(p=.026). Two shoulders in each group developed redislocation. There were no significant differences in the loss of external rotation and return to prior activity between the two groups(p>.05). The residual instability occurred more frequently in the group of patients with lesser anchors. Arthroscopic suture anchor capsulorraphy has results equal to or better than the open Bankart procedure.

  • Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites have proved to be reliable as strengthening materials. Most of existing studies used single types of FRP composites. Therefore, in this experimental study, carbon FRP sheet, aramid FRP sheet, and hybrid FRP plate including glass fibers were fabricated, and the effect of pre-stressed FRP composites on flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams was investigated. In total, eight RC beam specimens were fabricated, including one control beam (specimen N) without FRP composites and seven FRP-strengthened beams. The main parameters were type of FRP composite, the number of anchors used for pre-stressing, and thickness of FRP plates. As a result, the beam strengthened with pre-stressed FRP plate showed superior performance to the non-strengthened one in terms of initial strength, strength and stiffness at yielding, and ultimate strength. As the number of anchors and thickness of FRP plate (i.e., amount of FRP plates) increased, the strengthening effect increased as well. When hybrid FRP plates were pre-stressed, the strengthening effect was higher in comparison with pre-stressed single type FRP plate.

  • Recently, the ground anchor method is commonly applied with nail and rock bolt to secure the stability of slopes and structures in Korea. Among them, permanent anchor which is used for long-term stability should secure bearing capacity and durability during the period of use. However, according to recent studies, phenomenon such as deformation to slope and the reduction of residual tensile load over time have been reported along the long-term behavior of the anchors. These problems of reducing residual tensile load are expected to increase in the future, which will inevitably lead to problems such as increasing maintenance costs. In this study, we identified the factors that affect the tensile load of permanent anchor from a literature study on the domestic and foreign, and investigated the prior studies that analyzed previously conducted load cell monitoring data. Afterwards, using this as basic data, the load cell measurement data collected at the actual site were analyzed to identify the tensile load reduction status of anchors, and the long-term load reduction characteristics were analyzed. Finally, by aggregating the preceding results, proposed a technique to predict the long-term load reduction characteristics of permanent anchors through short-term data to around 100 days after installation.

  • If the safety factor does not secure the safety factor suggested in the design standard at the slope design stage, the safety factor is secured by installing an anchor. Stability analysis is used to verify the effect of reinforcing the slope of the anchor, but in this process, most of the anchor construction intervals are assumed to be equal and analyzed. For economical and effective slope reinforcement, stability analysis is required by adjusting the anchor construction interval. In this study, the effect of the anchor construction interval on the change of the safety factor of the slope was identified. Stability analysis was performed by setting a virtual slope with two berms and different anchor construction intervals. As a result of the analysis, the stability of the slope is secured when the anchor spacing of the lower surface is narrowed and the anchor gaps of the upper and middle surfaces are wider than when anchors are installed at the same intervals on the upper, middle, and lower surfaces of the slope. The result was a 15% reduction in the amount of anchors. This means that, rather than reinforcing anchors at the same intervals, it is economical and effective to have an economical and effective reinforcement effect to vary the anchor construction intervals according to the slope characteristics.

  • In this study, reliability tests of torsion control expansion anchors according to drill bit diameters were performed. The standard deviation and coefficient of variation of the anchor were reviewed through the tests for each variable, and the results were compared and evaluated with the standard test results. As a result of the reliability test of the M12 and M16 anchors with 1.04 times the drill bit diameter, they were within 20% of the ultimate tensile load permissible standard coefficient of variation. It was found that the pulling-out performance of the anchor installed in the large hole was sufficiently secured. However, it was found to be about 253% and 210% of the design strength, indicating that the pulling performance of the anchor installed in 1.04 times the drill bit diameter was sufficiently secured. As a result of the reliability test of the M12 and M16 anchors with 1.02 times the drill bit diameter, the value of the coefficient of variation of the ultimate tensile load limit was within 20%, which satisfies the test standard. It was shown to be about 136% and 168% of the design strength, indicating that the pulling-out performance of the anchor installed in 1.02 times the drill bit diameter is sufficiently secured.

  • According to the method of settling the construction structure on the ground to keep the structure safe, the ground anchor method is divided into a load-distributing anchor and a general anchor. Recently, the application of load-distributed anchors, which show a large degree of recognition by anchors, is increasing in the field, but the problem of field applicability is also caused. The load-distributed anchor fixes the tensile force to each section of the lecture line and applies it, causing a problem of asymmetric loads in which the maximum tensile force size of each settlement site differs due to the length difference of the anchor body. Therefore, in this study, as a quality management method according to the asymmetric load of anchors, a mono-type load cell that can measure the load for each lecture line of a load-distributed anchor was developed, and the field applicability was analyzed by comparing and analyzing the measurement results of the existing multi-type load cell and mono-type load cell. As a result of the study, the multi-type load cell had no choice but to estimate the working load for each inner body, so it was impossible for the load-distributed anchor to manage it according to the generation of asymmetric loads for each lecture line. However, in the case of a mono-type load cell the load was measured for each inner body and for each lecture line, regardless of ground conditions and construction conditions, and thus the load value was measured for each lecture line, enabling safety management and construction management according to the occurrence of asymmetric loads.

  • The load distribution in a ground anchor is very complex because it involves three different materials(soil, grout, and steel), which sometimes act as composite sections (bonded length) or separately (unbounded length). Therefore it is very hard to understand load transfer mechanism on the anchor. In order to understand the load transfer, it is essential to consider the load distribution In the three different materials. On these purposes, full scale anchor test is planned on the geotechnical site at Sunkyunkwan University Prior to the test, modeling and analyses of the load transfer mechanism were performed on the data from the case histories.

  • An analytical solution method capable of determining the geometric configuration and developed tensile forces of mooring lines associated with fixed plate/pile or drag anchors is presented. The solution method, satisfying complete equilibrium conditions, is capable of analyzing multi-segmented mooring lines that can consist of either chains, cables, or wires embedded in layered seafloor soils. Centrifuge model tests and full -scale field tests were used to calibrate and validate the analytical solution.
