Objectives: Head symptoms, such as headache and dizziness, are commonly presented in clinical practice. Although Donguibogam, the representative book of Korean medicine, contains many prescriptions for head symptoms, they are difficult to learn and apply because of the vast numbers. The aim of this study was to simplify and visualize the vast contents of Donguibogam by network analysis. Methods: 127 prescriptions for head symptoms, found in Donguibogam, were entered into a Microsoft office Excel 2013 file. This was used as a database for network analysis using the NetMiner 4 program. Results: Through network analysis, six networks for prescriptions for head symptoms in Donguibogam were established. The first network is similar to the herb composition of Cheongsangsahwa-tang (prescriptions for hwa-yeol syndrome). The second network is similar to the herb composition of Yanghyulgupung-tang (prescriptions for hyul-heo syndrome). The third network is similar to the herb composition of Sangcheongbaekbuja-hwan (prescriptions for dam-eum syndrome). The fourth network is similar to the herb composition of Heukseok-dan (prescriptions for yang-heo syndrome). The fifth network is similar to the herb composition of Boheo-eum (prescriptions for chil-jeong syndrome). The sixth network is similar to the herb composition of Bangpungtongseong-san (prescriptions for hwa-yeol syndrome). Conclusions: The results of the network analysis of 127 prescriptions for head symptoms in Donguibogam suggest that there are five major causes of head symptoms (hwa-yeol, hyul-heo, dam-eum, yang-heo, and chil-jeong), and that it is possible to prescribe Cheongsangsahwa-tang, Bangpungtongseong-san, Yanghyulgupung-tang, Sangcheongbaekbuja-hwan, Heukseok-dan, or Boheo-eum depending on the major causes.
Objectives: This study analyzed, through network analysis and data mining analysis, the relationship between herbs used in osteoporosis prescriptions, diversified the analysis of osteoporosis-related prescriptions, and analyzed the combination of herbs used in osteoporosis-related prescriptions. Methods: The prescriptions used in osteoporosis treatment and experiments were established by conducting a full survey of the papers published by the OASIS site. A database for osteoporosis-related prescriptions was established, herbs were extracted, and the frequency of frequent herbs and prescriptions were investigated using Excel (MS offices ver. 2013). Using the freeware R version 4.0.3 (2020-10-10), igraph, and arules package, network analysis was performed in the first second of prescription composition. Results: Among the osteoporosis-related prescriptions, the most studied prescriptions are as follows.: Yukmijihwang-tang (六味地黃湯) and Samul-tang (四物湯). In the osteoporosis prescription network, herbs with connection centrality, proximity centrality, mediation centrality, and eigenvector centrality appeared in the order of Rehmanniae Radix Preparata, Angelicae Gigantis Radix, Poria Sclerotium, Paeoniae Radix, and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma. After extracting the herbal combination network, including the corresponding herbs, and clustering it, it can be divided into drugs of the Yukmijihwang-tang (六味地黃湯) series and the Samul-tang (四物湯). Conclusions: This study could assist researchers in diversifyingy formula analysis in future studies. Moreover, the herbal combination used in osteoporosis prescriptions could be used to search for osteoporosis prescriptions in other databases or to create a new prescription.
Objectives The aim of this study is to explore the mechanism of action and target diseases of Sasang constitutional prescriptions using a multiscale interactome approach. Methods The compound and target information of Sasang constitutional prescriptions were retrieved from various databases such as the TM-MC, STITCH, and TTD. Key targets for Sasang constitutional prescriptions were identified by selecting the top 100 targets based on the number of simple paths within the constructed network. Diffusion profiles for Sasang constitutional prescriptions and diseases were calculated based on a biased random walk algorithm. Potential diseases and key mechanisms of Sasang constitutional prescriptions were identified by analyzing diffusion profiles. Results We identified 144 Sasang constitutional prescriptions and their targets, finding 80 herbs with effective biological targets. A cluster analysis based on selecting up to 100 key targets for each prescription revealed a more cohesive grouping of prescriptions according to Sasang constitution. We then predicted potential diseases for 62 Sasang constitutional prescriptions using diffusion profiles calculated on a multiscale interactome. Finally, our analysis of diffusion profiles revealed key targets and biological functions of prescriptions in obesity and diabetes. Conclusions This study demonstrates the effectiveness of a multiscale interactome approach in elucidating the complex mechanisms and potential therapeutic applications of prescriptions in Sasang constitutional medicine.
Objectives : As the understand about historical consumptive part through studying prescriptions in DonguiBogam, we would like to study some modern geriatric and chronic diseases. Methods : We analyzed application frequency of basic prescriptions, symptoms of prescriptions and the pathology analysis against historical comsumptive in DonguiBogam. Results : Through investigation into application frequency of basic prescriptions, symptoms of prescriptions, and two way analysis of Qi blood(yin yang) pathologies and viscera and bowels pathologies, we were able to found mostly used basic prescription, common symptoms, and separate some characteristics pathologies. Conclusions : We expected that this study will can help to give rationale for future study of consumptive caring.
Objectives : This study aims to provide a methodology for effectively searching similar applications of formulas by comparing applications of pre-existing prescriptions and those applied clinically based on the difference in weight ratio of each medicinal. Methods : The clinical application part was substituted by prescriptions from the Donguibogam. Samples of pre-existing prescriptions were taken from the Bangyakhappyeon. The component ratio of Donguibogam prescriptions(Y) and Bangyakhappyeon prescriptions(X1, X2) were calculated and expressed as Y = a×X1 +b×X2 + α. (a,b: numbers, α: the rest) Results : 1. In order to express the component ratio based on arbitrary prescriptions as standard prescription, a system that incorporates a storage sector for pre-existing prescription data, an input sector for arbitrary prescription data, an analysis sector that compares the two, and an output sector that generates analysis results is required. 2. The current study shows that the suggested analysis method allows for two standard prescriptions to an arbitrary prescription. Therefore, it is possible to analyze prescriptions that are combinations of two standard prescriptions. 3. Based on arbitrary prescription(Y) and pre-existing prescription(X1, X2), the combinations could be expressed as Y= a×X1 + b×X2 + α. Through finding the most simple combination, it is possible to search the most similar application to each arbitrary prescription.
Objectives : Consumptive is an unhealthy condition that are caused by lack of blood and essence, and that means also some stages of chronic diseases. The purpose of this study is to analysis 108 Prescriptions of Consumptive part in Dongui Bogam. Methods : The 108 Prescriptions of Consumptive part in Dongui Bogam analysed frequency of basic prescriptions, symptoms of prescriptions and the pathology. Results : Ssangbohwan, Yiuihwan, Gamrihwan were used for tonifying were mostly used as basic prescriptions in whole Consumptive part respectively. There are common symptoms in consumptive part in Dongui Bogam. That symptoms are "tidal fever, night sweating, nocturnal emission, cough, sputum, skinny body, weak pulse, spontaneous sweating, deafness, dim vision and tuberculosis". Qi blood(yin yang) pathologies in prescriptions on consumptive part are "yin deficiency, yin deficiency with effulgent fire, yang qi deficiency, dual damage of qi and blood, non-interaction between fire and water, collapse of yang and exhaustion of yin, less blood". viscera and bowels pathologies in prescriptions on consumptive part are "heart and kidney deficiency, spleen-stomach weakness, spleen and kidney great deficiency, weakness of kidney qi, meridian waste in heart, spleen and kidney, damage in heart and lung".
