  • This study carried out to certify of taxonomic delimitation in A. artemisiaefolia, A. trifida, A. trifida for. integrifolia, and A. psilostachya in the area of literature and experiment. A. psilostachya was not a vestige of naturalized in Korea and A. trifida and A. trifida for. integrifolia didn't have any valuable differences of morphological and molecular biological experiment. I arranged that naturalized species in Ambrosia are A. artemisiaefolia L. and A. trifida L. in Korea.

  • The study was performed to understand the actual vegetation by using the phytosociological method on the Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior community group in Jeju Island. The flora was composed of 48 families, 156 genera, 200 species, 28 varieties, 2 forma or 230 taxa. The Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior community group vegetation was classified into two communities and one association; Erigeron annuus - Conyza sumatrensis, Bromus tectorum - Bidens pilosa, Setaria viridis - Eleusine indica community and Lactuco indicae - Humuletum japonicae association. Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior community group was wide from the coastal areas up to the elevation of 1500 meter on Young sil of Mt. Halla. The highest dominance of the Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior is 345 meter which is located near Seoneheul-ri Jocheon-eup, on the other hand the lowest one is located 1020 meter near Young-sil of Mt. Halla.

  • I examined the relationship between allocations to plant size components such as plant height, total leaf weight, and nuber of branches and to reproductive components such as the number and weight of male and female fowers in three populations of the monoecious, wind-pollinated Ambrosia artemisiifolia. In particular, the two types of gender of plants, phenotypic and functional gender, were related to resource allocation. Mean values of all plant size and reproductive components differed significantly among the three populations. Such inter-population differences did not exist for both photosynthetic and reproductive efforts, Plant size components were mostly positively correlated with reproductive components among plants. However, the relationships between photosynthetic effort and reproductive components were largely negative and inconsistent among populations. The phenotypic gender was much lover than 0.5 in all of the three populations. Pairwise correlations between functional gender and each allocation measurement such as plant size components, reproductive components, photosynthetic effort, and reproductive effort were not consistent across the three populations. These results suggest that the gender of A. artemisiifolia measured as flower production responds sensitively to environmental conditions which might differ whithin as well as among populations.

  • This research was conducted to control flowering of azalea (Rhododendron spp.) by shading, chilling and gibberellin treatments. Higher shading among treatments resulted in extended duration of flowering (DF) and increased number of flowers (NF) in all varieties tested. Number of days to flower (NDF) was increased in 'Ripple' by shading treatment, but this was not affected in other was vice verse in 'Reinhold Ambrosia' resulting in decreased NDF. Chilling treatment followed by high shading increased NDF and shortened DF in 'Inga' and 'Ripple', but that extended NDF and DF and increased NF in 'Reinhold Ambrosia'. In flowering response to $GA_3$ resulted in decreased NDF and increased NF. These results indicated that treatments of shading, chilling and gibberellin to azalea extended DF and increased NF, but NDF appeared different according to varieties.

  • The flora of the studied basin in the upper Keum River was listed as 237taxa; 63families, 162genera, 212species, 22varieties and 3forms. Based on the list of the ecosystem disturbance plants by the Ministry of Environment, 4taxa were recorded in the studied basin : Paspalum distichum(Gramineae), Paspalum distichum var. indutum(Gramineae), Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior(Compositae), Ambrosia trifida(Compositae). Naturalized plants was listed as 54taxa; 16families, 41genera, 51species, 3varieties and naturalization index was 22.8percent of 1/4 the vascular plants. Upper Keum River was dominant floristic : indicator species were Salix gracilistyla community, Phragmites japonica community, native plants were Morus alba community, Spiraea prunifolia for. simpliciflora community, planting plants were Populus euramericana community, naturalized plants were Solidago serotina community, Helianthus tuberosus community.

  • The plastochron index (PI) according to leaf development of Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior were estimated. The amount and composition of monoterpenes in the leaves of A. artemisiifolia var. elatior were determined, and the seasonal monoterpene variations in representative of plastochron index were investigated. The total amount of monoterpenes in A. artemisiifolia var. elatior was increased continuously from PI 2.0, the highest amount was in PI 11.89. The major monoterpenes in A. artemisiifolia var. elatior consisted of 29 compounds. The leaf monoterpene fraction of A. artemisiifolia var. elatior were dominated by No.2, octene, α-pinene, β-myrcene, 1,3,6-octatrine, endo-borneol and (-)-bornyl acetate.

  • We evaluated Ambrosia artemisiifolia var. elatior, Ambrosia trifida, Rumex crispus which were reported to have good phytoremediatibility in different concentrations of Cu and Cd. Different growth responses were found in different heavy metal concentrations. Good growth rate for A. trifida and A. artemisiifolia var. elatior in Cu and Cd treatments and poor growth for R. crispus in Cd treatment were found. Although growth was retared in all tested weeds up to 200ppm for Cu and 50ppm for Cd, the high amount of heavy metal uptake indicated that these weeds could be used as phytoremediation. The choice of proper plant for bioremediation in different sources of heavy metal pollution seems important. In this regard, A. trifida which showed little variation in Cu accumulation in shoot under different Cu concentrations could be used for phytoremediation and phytostabilization.

  • This study has been carried out for the purpose of predicting the potential habitat sites of invasive alien plants in the DMZ and providing the basic data for decision-making in managing the future DMZ natural environment. From 2007 to 2015, this study collected the data for the advent of Ambrosia trifida var. trifida through fieldwork around the DMZ area, and simulated the potential distribution area of Ambrosia trifida var. trifida using Maxent model among the models of species distributions. As a result, it showed that the potential distribution area of the Ambrosia trifida var. trifida was concentrated in the western DMZ with relatively low altitude and scanty in the central east regions with relatively high elevation and forest cover rate. Because the invasive alien vegetation is a significant threatening factor in the agriculture and restoration of ecology and it costs a lot to restore the area already invaded by invasive alien vegetation, advance precautions are necessary to prevent biological invasions. It is expected that it is possible to predict the disturbed ecosystems through this study for the efficient land use within DMZ in the future and to apply this study in setting up the areas for the development and conservation within the DMZ.
