Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate performance of self-monitoring of blood glucose and the utilization of results for people with type II diabetes. Method: Data was collected from 177 patients with type II diabetes using a questionnaire from August to September, 2009. Result: Most participants performed self-monitoring of blood glucose in the correct way while some misused the lancet or test strips. In the utilization of results for self-monitoring blood glucose data, 62% of participants always recorded the data, 46% always understood the cause for hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia, 25% changed their diet, 23% regulated their exercise-amount, and 11% of participants adjusted the drug dosage. There were significant differences in the performance of self-monitoring of blood glucose and the utilization of results according to the characteristics in the self-monitoring subjects such as awareness of HbA1c, target fasting glucose level, target fasting glucose level 2 hours after meal etc. Conclusion: Systemic self-monitoring of blood glucose education which includes the utilization of self-monitoring of blood glucose needs to be developed for type II diabetic patients.

It often occur to nature disaster that like earthquake, typhoon, etc. around KOREA. A Haiti and Chile also metropolitan area of KOREA occur earthquake. in result, People think of nature disaster. Structures of present age are easily affected by nature disaster. So we are important that warn of dangerous situation as soon as possible. On this study, I introduce Integrated monitoring system that administrator check a event as early. I develop Monitoring System using SMS(Short Message Service). Administrator always monitor structure on real-time using mobile web-page. As Administrator using mobile device like PDA, Administrator always monitor structure. As using this system, Damage of nature disaster is minimized and is prevented post damage.

In this paper, always monitoring system of fiber Bragg Crating(FBG)Sensor is described and FBGs are well suited for measuring the movement in the part of the spatial structure(for example, cable, membrane and so on)under the pressure conditions. In order to measure the movement of long span structure, we need the measurable equipment that takes in many spots to measure. In the result of experiment, the fiber sensors showed good response to the pressure conditions. Therefore, We could calculate the movement of spatial structure and be possible health monitoring of the spatial structure.

This thesis is about the Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) control and monitoring system. which brings protection against the corrosion of the ship's hull in the sea environments. The ICCP system is composed of a power supply. anode. reference electrode and controller. AC sources from the ship's generator are converted to DC sources in terms of power supply, and a protection current is sent to ship's hull though anode. The controller fully senses whether or not the detected potential is within a range of protection of ship's hull and then it is automatically controlled to increase or decrease the amount of protective current to be sent to the anode. The monitoring system with RS 232/485 communication is also studied in order to check the normal state of the system at a long period. because an operator does not always watch over this system and thus the system cannot operate well because of his or her negligent management. Since the vessel always navigates in the sea. an characteristics experiment of the ICCP system is conducted by introducing various corrosive environmental factors such as velocity, resistivity, dissolved oxygen, PH, temperature and contamination degree. These results must be referred to when the ICCP system is set up. In short. the ICCP is a multi-system for use on ships and on land structures because it includes a safety device. It is suggested that this system can accomodate a ship's automation and will be very useful.

Monitoring of the cutting force signals in cutting process has been well emphasized in machine tool communities. Although the cutting force can be directly measured by a tool dynamometer, this method is not always feasible because of high cost and limitations in setup. In this paper an indirect cutting force monitoring system is developed so that the cutting force in turning process is estimated based on a AC spindle drive model. This monitoring system considers the cutting force as a disturbance input to the spindle drive and estimates the cutting force based on the inverse dynamic model. The inverse dynamic model represents the dynamic relation between the cutting force, the motor torque and the motor power. The proposed monitoring system is realized on a CNC lathe and its estimation performance is evaluated experimentally.

Civil infrastructures are always subjected to various types of hazard and deterioration. These conditions require systematic efforts to assess the exposure and vulnerability of infrastructure, as well as producing strategic countermeasures to reduce the risks. This paper describes the needs for and concept of advanced sensor technologies for risk assessment of civil infrastructure in Japan. Backgrounds of the infrastructure problems such as natural disasters, difficult environment, limited resource for maintenance, and increasing requirement for safety are discussed. The paper presents a concept of risk assessment, which is defined as a combination of hazard and structural vulnerability assessment. An overview of current practices and research activities toward implementing the concept is presented. This includes implementation of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems for environment and natural disaster prevention, improvement of stock management, and prevention of structural failure.
Two-step identification approaches for effective bridge health monitoring are proposed to alleviate the issues associated with many unknown parameters faced in real structures and to improve the accuracy in the estimate results. It is suitable for on-line monitoring scheme, since the damage assessment is not always needed to be carried out whereas the alarming for damages is to be continuously monitored. In the first step for screening potentially damaged members, a damage indicator method based on modal strain energy, probabilistic neural networks and the conventional neural networks using grouping technique are utilized and then the conventional neural networks technique is utilized for damage assessment on the screened members in the second step. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is investigated through a field test on the northern-most span of the old Hannam Grand Bridge over the Han River in Seoul, Korea.

In construction industry, the term 'procurement' is considered as a project based job where clients and contractors are always keen to observe performance indicators. These indicators represent financial and non-financial efficiency of project activities. Among these, the monitoring of financial indicators such as cost monitoring is an ongoing process and its importance cannot be undermined during the project life cycle. It can be monitored by using traditional approach of direct reporting of actual cost against budget. However, the comparison of budget versus actual spending does not indicate the worth of the work which is completed at any given time. This approach does not represent the true cost performance of the project. Because of these limitations, this paper discusses the applications of Earned Value Analysis (EVA) for cost monitoring of construction projects in Malaysia. Besides traditional approach, EVA is a three-dimensional approach that compares three cost indicators i.e. the budgeted value of work scheduled with the earned value of physical work completed and the actual cost of work completed. Therefore, cost monitoring by EVA is an objective measure of actual work performed. This paper uses a case study, an example application of EVA as a cost monitoring tool. This case study reaffirms the benefits of using EVA for project cash flow analysis and forecasting.
