This paper presents the result of groundwater analysis in Changwon area and the characteristics of the groundwater properties. Changwon city conducted groundwater analysis at 551 sites in 1996 and 1997. The water quality is suitable as groundwater use at 466 sites (84.6 %) and exceeds maximum contaminant levels (MCLs) at 85 sites (15.4 %). Major contaminants are total bacteria, coliform and nitrate-N. DNAPLs, e.g. TCE and PCE are detected in the areas of industrial complex and residence. The detection of TCE and PCE is due to organic solvents from manufacturing companies. They are also derived from laundries, Photographer's studios, septic tanks, etc. In addition, fifty groundwater samples were analyzed. Iron, manganese, zinc, copper, lead, aluminum and fluorine are detected in nearly all the groundwater samples. The groundwaters shown on the Piper diagram mostly belong to Ca-HCO$_3$ type.
Electrospinning method has easy preparation of nanofibers with a simple and versatile technique. Electrospun nanofiber is widely used by the simple approach and have great potentials in the numerous applicaitons of medicine, photonics, catalysts, sensors, etc. including advantage of their specific characteristics such as large surface to volume ratio. This paper focused on the fabrication of cobalt electrospun nanofibrer for applications such as electronic, optical and mechanical devices by metal based material. We fabricated cobalt nanofibers on aluminum foil by an electrospinning method. The electrospinning process was performed at a high voltage, 8 kV. The distance between the needle tip and the solution surface in the bath was 5 cm. The PVB - cobalt based nitrate solution was filled in a 10 mL syringe connected to a 22 gauge needle. We confirmed electrospun cobalt nanofiber after annealing process by SIMS (Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry) analysis. The concept design, fabrication and results of mapping measurements are reported.
Heat transfer phenomena in a high-temperature heat storage unit were investigated using molten salts. Carbonate salt, an equimolar mixture of $Li_2CO_3$ and $K_2CO_3$, which melts at $505^{\circ}C$ with a latent heat of 82 cal/g, was selected as the most promising latent heat storage material based on its low cost and excellent thermophysical properties at moderately high temperatures. It was also found that nitrate salts were good candidates of sensible heat storage materials. For the carbonate salt to be utilized commercially, however, several means of enhancing thermal recovery must be explored by promoting heat conduction through the solid salt formed during the heat discharge period. These would be achieved by the additions of aluminum screens and wool, and stainless fins. Finally, experimental results of moving boundary of phase change were well compared with predictied values obtained from the approximate solution.
Duplex microstructure of zirconia and alumina has been achieved via an organic-inorganic solution technique. Zirconium 2,4-pentanedionate, aluminum nitrate and polyethylene glycol were dissolved in ethyl alcohol without any precipitation. The organicinorganic precursor gels were turned to porous powders having volume expansion through explosive, exothermic reaction during drying process. The volume expansion was caused by abrupt decomposition of the organic groups in the gels during the vigorous exothermic reaction. The volume expanded, porous powders were crystallized and densified at 1500$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. At the optimum amount of the PEG polymer, the metal cations were well dispersed in the solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. The polymer content also affected on the specific surface area of the synthesized powder and the grain size of the sintered composite.
In the present study an attempt was made to synthesize the $Al_2O_3$.$2SiO_2$ glass in which atomic ratio is Al:Si=1:1 by sol-gel process. And at such a low temperature as 55$0^{\circ}C$ clear amorphous gel derived glass with Si-O-Al bonding was obtained. $Si(OC_2H_5)_4$ and $Al(NO_3)_3$.$9H_2O$ were used as the precursor and among the mutual solvents only n-butanol gave good results for the synthesis of the gel derived glass. Partial hydrolysis of TEOS with one-fold mol of $H_2O$ prior to the reaction with aluminum nitrate gave the better results., Total oxide content to the total reactants by weight was affective to the results.
Spent photovoltaic module is one of the important resource of silver, while related research concerning silver recovery remains limited. In our previous research, HNO3 was utilized to dissolve Ag(I) and Al(III) from the spent silicon solar cells. In order to recover Ag(I) from the leachate of a silicon solar cell, the present study made use of a nitrate solution containing Ag(I) and Al(III), which was subjected to a solvent extraction process with 5,8-diethyl-7-hydroxydodecan-6-oxime (LIX63). Ag(I) was selectively extracted with LIX63 over Al(III) from the nitrate leach solution. Subsequently, quantitative stripping of Ag(I) from the loaded LIX63 was performed by using 20% ammonia water. The McCabe-Thiele plots for the extraction and stripping isotherms of Ag(I) were also constructed. Extraction and stripping simulation tests confirmed an Ag(I) extraction and stripping efficiency of >99.99% and 98.9%, respectively with high purity Ag (99.998%) and Al (99.99%) solution. A process flow sheet for Ag(I) recovery from the nitrate leach solution was proposed.
$K^+-{\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}-Al_2O_3$ in the $K_2O-Li_2O-Al_2O_3$ ternary system was synthesized using aluminum nitrate solution as a starting material. For the synthesis of pure $K^+-{\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}-Al_2O_3$, raw materials with chemical composition of $0.84K_2O{\cdot}0.082Li_2O{\cdot}5.2Al_2O_3$ were mixed in solution state. The effects of dispersant and solution-pH were investigated in minimizing the particle size and on the synthesis of pure $K^+-{\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}-Al_2O_3$. Ethanol was used for a dispersant, and $NH_4OH$ solution and nitric acid were added for pH adjustment. The solution pH was increased from 1.0 to 7.5 by 0.5 increments. Each sample was calcined at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 2 h and characterized with X-ray diffraction and particle size analyzer. The pH of solution significantly effected both particle size and phase formation, while the addition of ethanol only effected particle size. The synthesis of pure $K^+-{\beta}^{{\prime}{\prime}}-Al_2O_3$ was favored by addition of nitric acid (for pH control).
The effects of the salt and the precursor pH on the synthesizing behavior and the morphology of mullite have been studied. Two kinds of mullite precursor sols were prepared by the dissolution of two kinds of salt (aluminum nitrate enneahydrate, Al($NO_3$)$_3$ㆍ$9H_2$O; type I and aluminum sulfate 14∼18 water, (SO$Al_4$)$_3$$\cdot$$14∼18H_2$O; type II) into the mixture of colloidal silica sol, respectively. Precursor pH of the sols was controlled to the acidic (pH= 1.5∼2) and basic (pH= 8.5∼9) conditions. The co-products with nitrate and sulfate were completely eliminated at $500^{\circ}C$ and $850^{\circ}C$, respectively, which was confirmed by TG/DTA results. The synthesizing temperature of mullite phase was found to be above $1200^{\circ}C$ for pH= 1.5∼2 and above $1300^{\circ}C$ for pH= 8.5∼9 in type I. However, in type II, the synthesizing temperature of mullite was decreased to $850^{\circ}C$ for pH= 1.5∼2 and $1100^{\circ}C$ for pH= 8.5∼9. The grain size of the mullite synthesized at pH= 8.5∼9 was larger than that at pH= 1.5∼2 in overall heat-treated temperatures, showing smaller grain size in type II. Aspect ratio of the mullite grains was more increased at pH= 1.5∼2 than pH= 8.5∼9 in type I, showing similar aspect ratio at both pH conditions in type II. It was found that the synthesizing temperature and grain size were predominantly governed by the initial precursor pH and decomposition of the salt, with minor effect on the grain morphology.
La doped CuO-ZnO-$Al_2O_3$ powders are prepared by sol-gel method with aluminum isopropoxide and primary distilled water as precursor and solvent. In this synthesized process, the obtained metal oxides caused the precursor such as copper (II) nitrate hydrate and zinc (II) nitrate hexahydrate were added. To improve the surface areas of La doped CuO-ZnO-$Al_2O_3$ powder, sorbitan (z)-mono-9-octadecenoate (Span 80) was added. The synthesized powder was calcined at various temperatures. The dopant was found to affect the surface area and particle size of the mixed oxide, in conjunction with the calcined temperature. The structural analysis and textual properties of the synthesized powder were measured with an X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), a Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Bruner-Emmett-Teller surface analysis (BET), Thermogravimetry-Differential Thermal analysis (TG/DTA), $^{27}Al$ solid state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and transform infrared microspectroscopy (FT-IR). An increase of surface area with Span 80 was observed on La doped CuO-ZnO-$Al_2O_3$ powders from $25m^2$/g to $41m^2$/g.
