In this study, we developed plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process for aluminum 7075 alloy to improve the corrosion and mechanical properties. The electrolyte consists of potassium hydroxide and sodium silicate. Additionally, sodium stannate was added into the electrolyte to investigate its effect on PEO film formation. Titanium was used as the counter electrode. Plasma generation voltage reduced from 300V to 150 V by adding 4 g/L of sodium stannate. The thin oxide films were observed by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy)/EDS (Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy) for quantitative and qualitative analyses. XRD (X-ray diffraction) and XRF (X-ray Fluorescences) analyses were also carried out to identify oxide layer on aluminum 7075 surface. Vicker's hardness test was performed on the PEO-treated aluminum 7075 surface.
The combustion characteristics of cellulose Insulation treated with several metal complexes such as Aluminium hydroxide, Cupric sulfate pentahydrate, Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, Manganese chloride tetrahydrate and Tnisodium phosphate dodecahydrate are studied to evaluate the effectiveness as a potential flame retardant for cellulosic materials. In this study, we found that LOI values of cellulosic materials treated with the metal complexes are generally increased with the increase of their content. At high concentration, CS(24% ) and SP(24% ) show high LOI values, suggesting resistance to flame spread, The materials examined in this study were found to be relatively more resistance to smouldering and flaming combustion in comparision with untreated cellulosic material. The flammability behavior of the materials exhibits combustion process as follows : LOI$\rightarrow$smouldering region$\rightarrow$smouldering-flaming spread region$\rightarrow$flame spread region.
Eighteen holstein-calves(4~5 months old) in a divided groups including the matched control were immunized with $100{\mu}g/dose$ of 34kDa, 45kDa polypeptide and T sergenti merozoite vaccine(protein content $100{\mu}g/dose$) respectively, previously mixed with aluminium hydroxide to elicit antibodies. All groups of calves were boosted with same dose and intervals. The animals were challenged by tick infestations in the endemic pasture of theileriosis from March to September 1994. The animals were monitored for the erythrocyte count, parasitemia, hematocrit and the specific antibody reactions elicited by immunization. The immunological responses demonstrated that vaccination with 34kDa polypeptide and T sergenti merozoite derived vaccine inhibited to produce the 75kDa band immunological responds even in the vaccinated calves after being challenged by tick infestations in the pasture. However, the specific antibody reactions were detected at the 32kDa band in the nonimmunized calves and T sergenti merozoite derived vaccine by the western blot. The 34kDa polypeptide vaccine and T sergenti merozoite derived vaccine were evaluated to be able to protect inducing anemia and to decrease parasitemias level. These vaccines have the efficacy of inhibition to produce a certain antigen corresponding 75kDa band antigen of parasite in the calves as challenged with tick infestations.
Porin proteins of Gram-negative bacteria are outer membrane proteins that act as receptors for bacteriophages and are involved in a variety of functions like solute transport, pathogenesis, and immunity. Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi), a Gram-negative bacterium, is the causative agent of typhoid fever. Porins of S. Typhi have been shown to have a potential role in diagnostics and vaccination. In the present study, the major outer membrane proteins OmpF and OmpC from S. Typhi were cloned in pQE30UA vector and expressed in E. coli. The immunogenic nature of the recombinant porin proteins were evaluated by ELISA by raising hyperimmune sera in Swiss Albino mice with three different adjuvants (i.e., Freund's adjuvant and two human-compatible adjuvants like montanide and aluminium hydroxide gel) and proved to be immunogenic. The recombinant OmpF and OmpC generated in this work may be used for further studies for vaccination and diagnostics.
For the raw materials of 3CaO$\cdot$3Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$$\cdot$CaSO$_{4}$(CSA) clinker manufacturing, the applications of industrial wastes such as waste shell, spent oil-refining catalyst and desulfurized gypsum were examined. The c1inkerbility of the raw mix and the behaviour of formation of clinker minerals were studied and then some hydraulic properties of cements containing the clinker were also investigated. By virtue of the high reactivity of thermally decomposed raw materials, CSA clinkers were obtained at relatively low temperature of 1250$^{\circ}C$ and thus oil-refining catalysts were more desirable than aluminium hydroxide as an aluminous raw material. The expansive cement samples showed somewhat lower flow value than that of OPC, but their compressive strengths were developed earlier and higher than that of OPC due to formation of ettringite in the early hydration time, which indicated the possibility of practical use of low-cost CSA clinker using industrial wastes only.
This study was carried out to recover gold, silver and other valuable metals from the printed circuit boards (PCB) of waste computers. PCB samples were crushed to under 1mm by a shredder and initially separated into 30% conducting and 70% non-conducting materials by an electrostatic separator. The conducting materials, which contained the valuable metals, were then used as the feed material for magnetic separation where it was found that 42% was magnetic and 58% non- magnetic. The non-magnetic materials contained 0.227mg/g Au and 0.697mg/g Ag. Further leaching of the non-magnetic component using 2.0M sulfuric acid and 0.2M hydrogen peroxide at 85$^{\circ}C$ extracted more than 95% copper, iron, zinc, nickel and aluminium. Au and Ag were not extracted in this solution, however, more than 95% of Au and 100% of Ag were selectively leached with a mixed solvent (0.2M ammonium thiosulfate, 0.02M copper sulfate, 0.4M ammonium hydroxide). Finally, the residues were reacted with a NaCl solution to leach out Pb while sulfuric acid was used to leach out Sn. Recoveries reached 95% and 98% in solution, respectively.
For the preparation of tricalciumaluminate $(C_3A)$ clinker, in traditional clinkering method using oxides and carbonates as a raw material, uneconomical repetition of burning have been necessary to avoid the melting of clinker by eutectic reaction in the system $CaO-Al_2O_3$. In this study, special starting raw materials for the clinker burning were prepared from a mixture of oyster shell and aluminium hydroxide by heating to $1100^{\circ}C$ and hydrating at $30^{\circ}C$. The starting raw materials, hardened body with weak hydraulic strength, were mainly composed of $C_3AH_6$ formed by resolution-precipitation mechanism of the system $CaO-Al_2O_3-H_2O$. By heating them, relatively pure $C_3A$ clinker could be obtained by one-time burning at the fairly lower temperature than that of conventional method. The easier formation of $C_3A$ clinker seemed to be caused by higher compositional homogeneity and stoichiometry of the starting materials, high surface area and crystallographic instability of the thermally decomposed products, and the catalytic effect of decomposed moisture on the early-stage crystallization of calciumaluminates. The basic hydration behavior of the clinker was also confirmed.
Waste aluminum dross was processed to prepare alum with sulfuric acid, and poly aluminum chloride(PAC) with hydrochloric acid. Metallic aluminum remained in the waste dross was dissolved into the sulfuric acid solution, and the solution could be used as alum for water treatment chemicals after adjusting the required alumina concentration and pH of the solution. Also, it was dissolved into the hydrochloric acid solution and processed to make PAC solution. Compared with the conventional method for preparation of alum and PAC using aluminum hydroxide, material cost could be saved in this method. Also, there is an additional merit in view of recycling of the waste aluminum dross by reducing the amount of waste disposed to landfill.

The intermediate, 17${\alpha}$-methyl-4-aza-5${\alpha}$-androstan-17${\beta}$-ol(Ⅸ) required for the synthesis of 4-(${\beta}$-guanidinoethyl)-17${\alpha}$-methyl-4-aza-5${\alpha}$-androstan-17${\beta}$-ol(V) was obtained through a reaction of 17${\alpha}$-methyl-3,5-seco-4-norandrostan-17${\beta}$-ol-5-on-3-oic acid(VI) with ammonium hydroxide followed by two reductions(platinum dioxide with hydrogen and lithium aluminium hydride). Condensation of Ⅸ with chloroacetonitrile under anhydrous condition, followed by reduction of the nitrile with lithium aluminium hydride gave 4-(${\beta}$-aminoethyl)-17${\alpha}$-methyl-4-aza-5${\alpha}$-androstan-17${\beta}$-ol(XI). The reaction of XI with 2-methyl-2-thiopseudourea or 3,5-dimethylpyrazole-1-carboxamidine, or cyanamide provided the title compound, V. Relaxation of the nictitating membrane, in the absence of mydriasis, is considered to be evidence of adrenergic neurone blockade. Thus the test compound(V) resembles that of the classical adrenergic neurone blocking agents.
The clinkerbility and the behaviour of formation of $3CaO{\cdot}Al_{2}O_3$ were studied using the mixture of waste oyster shell and spent oil-refining catalyst mainly by the mineral and microstructural observation. By virtue of the formation of $12CaO{\cdot}7Al_{2}O_3$ at relatively low temperature and its successive reaction with CaO, the $3CaO{\cdot}Al_{2}O_3$ clinkers were formed easily without affection of minor constituents contained in oyster shell. Thus clinkers were formed at $1400^{\circ}C$ directly but began to melt incongruently at higher temperature above that. Aluminium hydroxide, however, was not desirable as an aluminous raw materials of the clinker because rapid melting occurs before $3CaO{\cdot}Al_{2}O_3$ forms main clinker mineral.
